  • 9:05 Who is that playing??!!

  • T.G.I. MacFunsters!

  • lol I ran into this episode by chance. I'm going to the Twin Cities next week and am planning a trip to The Sample Room.

  • I love the ending of this episode.

  • Word of note: Aquavit (MSP) the last restaurant featured closed in July of 2003.

  • its doing just fine in new york

  • It just didn't make it Minneapolis. Most of the articles that I read said it depended a lot on business traffic. I would have liked to try it.

  • the go to new york

  • 6:29 Tony called it a spring roll. It's actually a salad roll.

  • its a spring roll.

  • a spring roll is one that is deep-fried. what tony is eating is a vietnamese salad roll with shrimp, mint, rice noodle, wrapped in rice paper, but unfried. i live in vancouver with a large vietnamese population, and numerous vietnamese pho restaurants. i have never come across an unfried roll referred to as spring roll; it's always salad roll. this doesn't mean i'm absolutely right. maybe in the u.s., it's called differently.

  • I live in the U.S. in San Jose with a huge Vietnamese population also. Tony is correct, the unfried rolls are called "spring rolls," the fried ones are called "egg rolls." Ahem.

  • That's not correct either. Egg rolls are typically chinese fried rolls. Vietnamese fried rolls are called Chả giò and are often falsely translated as spring or egg rolls and their wraps are made of rice paper. So Tony is actually correct.

  • @FlyingHotPot Chả giò is the Viet transliteration of Chinese egg roll.

  • @DyeTyme It's the general viet translation for anything stuffed in a roll of rice / flour type paper. Chả Giò Tàu would be chinese type. Chả Giò Việt Nam, Chả giò Thái Lan etc.

  • So you agree with me. In San Jose, U.S.A., it's called differently than it is called in Vancouver, Canada. This doesn't mean either one of us is right or wrong. It's just a matter of naming discrepancy for the same delicious food.

At least there's one thing we can agree on: Vietnamese food is pretty damn good! Can you agree?

Thanks FlyingHotPot for the clarification, and of course a big THANKS for uploading these episodes!

  • @moonphoenix1 hey..umm..its been like, 7 months..but you wanna talk 'bout the rolls again? you wanna just..revisit it for a second? great...ok..i thought...fresh ones were spring rolls and the lil fried ones...less ingredients, mainly pork...were called summer rolls..hey..get back to me..after Christmas..mmmk? great.

  • hey you made an error with the title, it should be 2 of 2.

  • Thanks. it's correct now.
