This is a TEAM effort not individual.

So it's reasonable to assume that even though they have a team philosophy, it's still focused on the individual efforts of Crosby/Malkin.

@Follix1 Ovechkin was being held down by Boudreau's system, and Crosby had a hot streak and very easily could have gone back down to earth, considering Ovechkin actually had a LONGER stretch of 52 games with a HIGHER PPG of 1.69 in 09-10.

Crosby is better than Ovechkin, there is no comparison. Backstrom or Green should be the Captain for the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin Is another Kovalchuk he has faded as a player and is now lacking consistency. There is a reason why the Caps are in 8th and the Pens are in 1st. The Pens play as a Team and don't just focus on individual effort.

They now have Staal, Crosby and Malkin in the lineup. Malkin himself after the 6-3 Ottawa game stated,"It’s good for the team, you know?,” Malkin said. “It’s the whole team helping. It’s great we have four good lines and everyone tries to score.” so how can you argue this fact.

The last game against the Canadiens Crosby only had 1-assist, Malkin registered 1 goal while Kris Letang scored to Overtime winner. The Penguins play as a team this is the reason they are currently in first place. The other players who consistently register points include, Kunitz, Dupuis, Kennedy, Neal and now Sullivan. This is a TEAM effort not individual.

@kdfsjljklgjfg Ovechkin is a great player, however the majoritiy of hockey teams have figured out his style of play and they trap him. Bylsma lets Crosby do whatever because he knows that he has the ability to create plays without being told what to do. This is natural talent. I think Boudreau's style of play (more defensive and less offensive) is obviously preventing Ovechkin/Semin from scoring goals-you are correct. I think he will get fired this year or next season.

Sure, Pittsburgh tries to play around a team, but you can't argue that it isn't a rather top-heavy lineup focused on the first 2 lines. Matt Cooke as a 3rd liner should attest to that. So it's reasonable to assume that even though they have a team philosophy, it's still focused on the individual efforts of Crosby/Malkin.

This system was implemented by Boudreau last season in order for the Washington Capitals to have a deep playoff run and failed to work. I agree that the focus is on Crosby/Malkin, but since the Pens play a North/South system instead of an East/West system this allows ALL the players to become aggressive towards their opposition. Almost every team has a 1-2 combination ie: H. Sedin/D. Sedin..

The Penguins dont need Crosby/Malkin in the lineup to win games. They have 4 lines that show results, even the likes of Dustin Jeffrey and Joe Vitale and Richard Park have shown comittment to the system.

Superstar players are best used when you try to most efficiently utilize their skillset, not try to change their skillset into something else.
