You seem to Know a lot about bikes so ... what would you choose for an every day bike and ocational 2,000 km trips ( In Mexico city , Real bad trafic ) a gs 1200 a gs 800 or a KTM 990.? I have a Dakar now but i Think its time to change.
The gs 1200 I´ve been told tends to heat Up in trafic. And I´m really afraid of the 800 Seat. KTM seems to have it All.
I´ve made a couple of 6000km trips on mine, and I loved it. The problem is when you are not at sea level, or with a second passenger, or heavy lugage... It looses its fastness... Little bit unconfortable because of the seat, and you better get a windshield that protects more, because above 130kmh with the regular windshield, you battle with your neck the wind... Get one. I´ll get the F800 GS. Watch my videos on mine...
Hola Serguti!
There are a lot of friends that did that trip with HONDA Africa Twin, TRansalp and BMW's. Plan it well. And if you get to Buenos Aires, contact me! Regards,

The music ruined it - I would've loved to hear the bike. If I want music, I'll turn on the radio.

Upatdown,
In some situations you are right, but the BMW 650 1 cylinder has a very un-inpressive sound.
With some music, it is easier to reflect the feeling I had driving around South Africa.

how are these bikes for long rides ?
inagod 2 years ago
I did a trip for aprox 2000 miles through south africa with this bike, and right now, I am getting close to 4000.
No problem.
Just check the chain... and keep driving.

Hello Dino,
True. When you drive for a longer time with a lot of weight, it feels like it is loosing power.
If you take a rest for a while, and let the engine cool down, it regains power again.
To be honest, the windshield on the Dakar ( old model ), is just fine.... for me, and wearing the correct helmet.
If you wear a off the road helmet with top shade, for sure, this is going to catch a lot of wind.
High speeds. Wear a normal integral helmet.

Dino, couple of more things.
New 800.
Soon you will have some remarks on the front suspension and the seat.
You want to bet ??

What about the front suspension? is it too soft?
dinoarellano 2 years ago
The bike is really not bad, I just find the suspension to be poor, but that is my opinion.
I have been driving the new 800 in fun conditions, and I don't like the suspension.
Another thing is,
I just drove around South Africa again for about 5000 Km on a old faithfull GS 650 Dakar, and I
would like to know, how I should survive this on a 800 seat.

p.s. Youtube movie will follow soon.
