9. this is like the u.s. trying to take credit for south korea's 707th special missions battalion. their entire military is actually modeled after ours, but "the white tigers" are uniquely theirs.
8. inspired by sas, who initially helped with training as well, but it's a stretch to say delta was "modeled" on sas. cia, sf, and seals were basically already tasked with all missions other than ct.
7. i believe a lot of confusion stems from the fact col. "charlie" beckwith trained with the s.a.s. and saw a need for an american counter-terrorism unit, 1st sfod-delta (last known as c.a.p.).
6. i must give due credit to our native americans also. afterall, the swamp fox, learned these tactics while battling the cherokee as a lieutenant during the french and indian war.
5. the us can trace the lineage of sof type units all the way back to the birth of our nation when francis marion, the swamp fox, utilized guerilla warfare tactics to great effect against the british.
4. my point is, as you've touched on, both the united states and the uk developed our modern special operations forces mutually. we've continued to share military and intelligence assets.
3. interesting enough, germany was actually the first to organize a special operations and clandestine intelligence ops unit, in the modern sense, with the "brandenburgers".
2. the us army sf and the uk's sas were founded within months of each other. both children of the oss and 1st sod (usa) and the soe (uk), who were founded a year apart in the early stages of ww2.

1. the commonwealth states' sof were perhaps modeled after the sas. those are about it. it is insular patriotism and ignorance, which americans are readily accused of, that perpetuates this notion.
furthermore, i assure you the s.a.s. DID NOT "design the current training courses for the green berets". be proud of your service men and women, but please refrain from making bellicose declarations. it's really a discredit and an annoyance to the men and women who are actually special operations personnel; who understand the global community is an united, elite fraternity. everyone respects the training and assets each operator contributes to the good fight.
@tbellncsu All SF training was modeled after SAS training. The Brits had the best during WW2. But they cross train anyways. I had buddies in the CF do USMC training.
@shamelessredboy, everyone thinks their country's special operations units are the best. that's fine. it's being patriotic. truth is, however, it's almost impossible to unequivocally ascertain which units are the best. every unit has unique missions and "crafts". thus, their training is tailored specifically to hone whatever skills they've been tasked. as for the british sas being the model of u.s. special forces (the green berets), that's a misunderstanding of the true history.
My Father was drafted directly into Vietnam & I never got to even meet him, they drafted my Dad right after he was married & my Mom was pregnant & they never had a chance to CRY like babies like Terry John who flunked because he was afraid & wanted to quit right from the very beginning. WHY even join? This is no game. If THIS is the best the U.K. has to offer, no wonder why they can't train the Afghan troops they're supposed to. All I see is WEAK, pathetic disgraceful KIDS playing boy scouts.
Our troops are renowned the world over as the pinnacle in training and resoucefulness. We rely on superior skills learnt during the toughest training course IN THE WORLD. We do not rely on "Call of Duty" type video game warfare to do the dirty work.

@1AppleofEden I was "lucky" enough to be attached to a grouip of mechanized US Infantry and I have to say I have never ever in my military life been around such a macho bunch of idiots. The priority for them was a) Looking good 2) Bragging about how many Eye-Rackis they had killed and 3) When meal time was. You speak from the experience of someone who has never ever undertaken any kind of military training in your life.
@1AppleofEden Working alongside the US mechanized troops reminded me of just how good our training is. As a normal recruit, my skills far exceeded those of the US troops I was with, who simply relied on the "Big Stick" approach of guided weapons, which sometimes worked and sometimes didnt. Stormin Norman G said, during and after the Gulf War in 1991 that all he needed to finish the job was a brigade of Challenger tanks and the SAS. Funny a US 4 Star General should say that.
man, just watching this i feel for terry, i can feel his pain , and its the truth ... you make unbreakable bonds with the guys ur with and leavin them is no easy thing... not at all
@wilb6657 Nah, operational training can involve multiple service regiments and corps using the same facility, notice the soldier delivering some training advice is a royal engineer from the army
@ozzyxyz10 there is a 4 mile a 6 mile and a 9 mile speed march recruits, start with the 4 miler and improve their stamina 4 miles 40 minutes 9 miles in 90 minutes, and at the end maintain rifle accuracy by a shoot off, each must maintain a Magpie.

This is a great series. Being American and having watched many programs about The United States Marine Core, it's really interesting to see the differences and similarity of the Commandos and US Marines. That must be one hell of an honor to say you're a Royal Commando. I'm very interested to see where the season progress's. In America they don't really talk about Britons involvement in Afghanistan. So really prior to this and my own research I never knew the amazing things the Brits did :)
@datsunpost finally an american thats not completely ignorant :)
(please dont take it as me saying all americans are ignorant, usually the ones on these videos are full of patriotic bravado and just talk out their asses)
@datsunpost I know there are typos in my comment. I'm ever so sorry, and if you'd like I will point them all out; however I don't need everyone on Youtube pointing them out for me because I have the top comment. I think that my point in my original comment gets across perfectly minus the few spelling and grammatical errors. However I do apologize.
@datsunpost you shouldnt have to apologise for grammer errors friend your top comment is very admirable =) theres some douch on ep1 comments saying how shit the RM are comapred to USMC its good that people can respect each other and not be hostile about allies and things that have happened hundreds of yrs ago. peace to you dude
@datsunpost its reet dude, fucks me off does this ignorance of both our countries, you get peeps on here saying british/ american marines, best trained in the world but they dont even take into account spetsnaz or chinese/north/southkorean spec ops people dont know fuck all i personally believe spetsnaz from research are the toughest cunts on the planet half these peeps will never have looked into it
@cannibalcheese To be fair mate, not a lot of attention is paid ot other Special Forces from around the world. Australia has exceptional troops, so do the Dutch. But in my honest opinion, it is a straight tie between SAS and Israeli Mossad. Don't forget, Israel have been at war since there countries inception. As for Spetsnaz, probably best forget them. Most of them went to join the Russian Mafia in the early 90's.
