Such a lovely child!! feel very sorry for him...he has never really had a happy decent life and blames his parents for his instability. Get abit upset when I watch him especially when he talks about having children and saying that they inherit something from their parents....meaning he doesn't want them to be like him but I do think he would have a lot to offer his children because listening to him talk, he is quite well educated and very intelligent! NEIL, DON'T BRING YOURSELF DOWN!!!

The way Neil ended up is no mystery - it happens all the time. In my opinion, based on watching the series - I would say his parents are to blame. They must have put a crushing pressure on him to get into Oxford - and his failure to achieve that destroyed his self belief. He could have managed well at Aberdeen University - got a career - constructive life - met someone special, had a family. I think perhaps his own self destruction may have been a way of getting back at his parents.

@LPCLASSICAL Such is life, sad as it is ..tragic almost that such a sweet little boy would grow up to be so unstable ....but he won through..No matter what events are headed our way, or what battle is already raging within, we are always given a choice; ...So interested to see the next chapter of his life ...if indeed there is another series .....

... Neil was my favourite participant in this documentry series. I always felt that it was Neil's intelligence combined with an acute sensitivity that was a curse for him as he grew older. I feel that perhaps Neil felt utterly alienated by the world, as it seems he could never relate to the world around him who largely don't care about anyone or anything - but themselves. I think he has come along way and managed to make some sense of the human race, by acceptance and a fair bit of tenacity.

Neil is so wonderful. His smile is so bright, radiant. I was very moved to watch his life unfold with all its difficulties. He's clearly dealing with some kind of organic condition, and it's great to see him in his later life, overcoming (to a degree) the depressive tendencies that beset him in adulthood.
