My next 4th gen sable will be a 03-05. I had a 01 GS i had since my junior year of highschool and hurricane irene flooded her she had 183,445 miles i got the car as a gift in 08 with 102,001 miles on it i loved it. It had the console shift theres a video of it on my page. Jasper can rebuild or i atleast think purchase a new AX4N or S from them brand new with improved parts for about $3,000.
I used to have a beautiful silvery-green 01 Sable LS Premium. Honestly it was the best car Ive owned. These drive nice and theyre good on the wallet. Nice vid :)
I have a 2005 Mercury Sable GS and I had a reading of 300 miles till Empty when I filled up and I got mine used in 2005 with about 23,000 miles and just hit over 83,000 miles this year. Did you know that the 2005 was the last year body style for the 2005 Mercury Sable
the thing I like about the GS over the LS is that the GS has the Column shifter. The thing that would make me nervous about a center console shifter is some drunk idiot fooling around and slamming the lever in to Park or Reverse while driving
Just for refrence, you can get an LS with the column shifter. I saw an exact model like mine, only it had the column shifter. I prefer the console though. The column one is very outdated.
For some reason, though not a Sable fan, i seem to like the 2000-2003 Models better. Though the 04-06 models have the electronic addons, and the nicer interior, the early 2000 models have that exterior look. But anyways. nice car. she looks clean and I bet she runs like a dream.
I don't know why it was so low...but as of today...I have a half tank right now...and it says 221 miles to empty. Just depends on what kind of driving...and how you drive. I'm getting 23.4 AVE MPG right now...so that's probably why... :D
These are the best looking years for the Sable. They are a great value to buy used. You can always find ones out there with low miles and never driven hard.
I have a 2003 Taurus with the 24V DOHC V6. Quite a lot of power for a V6 and not bad mileage (20 mpg) considering I do almost all town driving. These cars are heavier than a lot of people realize. Why Ford ever quit making these is beyond me. Their best seller and they go and stop making it.
I know, weird eh? I like the Fusion just as good, if not better. The SYNC and the Traction Control/ESC would be something that I'd definately have to have.
To bad 2009 is the last year for the Sable production again*. I don't think Ford is going to bring it back this time around, because the Mercury lineup is slowly getting phased out. But that 2010 Ford Taurus looks sharp as hell. Not to mention the finally awaited return of the Taurus SHO which will make its debuted soon after the the 2010 Taurus goes on sale late this summer.
The Sable isn't a bad car at all, but I'd much rather have a GM. I have three GM cars, and my parents have 2 Ford cars. On my parents' Sable, I have to take off the upper intake manifold to change the spark plugs. Is it the same with your car, or do you have a lower profile UIM?
Dodge sucks! Those Intrepids were nothing but problems. They seem to have been made with nuts and bolts. Check the consumer reviews on Edmunds and you'll see all the complaints. Then check the consumer reviews for the 2005 Sable on Edmunds and you'll see the difference right away...
Plus the Intrepid was a full size car and compared with the V8 Crown Vic Sport it stands no chance and dont even talk bout the Merc Maruder-spelling?- TKOxPITCHBlAk u my friend are a tool.
I just got a 2005 wagon and I LOVE IT......it's loaded, leather seats etc. Probably the nicest car I've ever owned

Exact same dash as my Taurus, same engine too.
RJSVD 2 years ago
Thats because the Taurus and Sable are pretty much the same exact car. Cant find a part for a Taurus...check for Sable parts.

@owensri2 yeah it does look somewhat outdated with a Coloumn Shifter......but it does leave alot of space between the seats.

Initial measurements can be wrong, depending on temperature or your average mpg on last trip.

nice car! I have a 2000 mercury sable ls premium. it's ok for a first car, but it's pretty beat up. the transmission slips and it has 117,500 miles.

Yes, I have the Duratec, the one you have to remove the upper intake manifold to change the spark plugs...

i got a duractec taurus.. and i dont have to take off the upper intake.. i just crawl under the car and u can get them
dustinwaller87 3 years ago
Intrepid sucks.
Go to a dealer or an auction. Intrepids are worthless & have terrible resale value. Dealers still pay good money for a Loaded Taurus or Sable
Tis Duratec may be smaller, but they're awesome engines
pokeeto2 3 years ago 4
The Dodge Intrepid is the same class and the 3.5 DOHC 24 on that would smoke this sable.
