@MarctheDarc Thanks Marc! Yeah I've defo been slacking on the uploads, been mega busy with my band. Got a few tracks in the works (various genres), so I shall need to get them uploaded asap! :)
@matteomolinare Thanks man, my setup is quite different from this now. I now use an MPC2500, Korg EMX, Korg MS2000b rack and then my R3 :) with a little bit of kaoss pad and kaossilator action thrown in for good measure! lol
first of all I love the track! LOVE IT! I see you're triggering the vocal samples with your akai, are those one shot presets or are they sampled into the other electribe and you're controlling with the akai?
I don't know if this would interest you, but we are currently doing a competition based on creating a video review of a music product with the chance of winning up to £150 off new gear. Give me a shout if you're interested and I'll message you the link, or join us on facebook (/absolutemusicuk) and get the details off there. Nice one!
Hey, I see you have a MPC but are using an electribe for the beat. I have a older electribe but am thinking about replecing it with a MPC. Just curious what your reasoning is for using the electribe for the beat instead of the mpc. Maybe it will make me reconsider getting rid of my electribe. Good stuff by the way.
@MattBomkamp I decided I liked the sounds of the electribe R on this one so just used the MPC for playing the one shot vocal samples.
Usually I do my beats with the MPC but I wouldn't get rid of your Electribe, they are great for coming up with ideas and teamed up with an MPC they are great for Sampling :)
I have now upgraded to the MPC 2500 and I would definitely recommend it! Thanks for watching! :)
@heedenkyle Yeah dude. I got mine in from ebay in December, its the MS2000b rack version, it was in mint condition too :) It took me a while to get one but it wasn't very cheap :S (£250).
The annoying thing is that I seen an MS2000 keyboard go for £180 around 1 year before I got mine lol, there getting really popular :)
heyy :) cool stuff, crazy set up too haha. I have the emx1, im enjoying it and stuff, and was just wondering if i could ask some stuff? would you recommend the R3 to go with the tribe? and what does the MPC500 thingy do? :) thanks
The R3 would be a great addition to the tribe in my opinion :) It will compliment the tribe because it great effects, 4 assignable knobs (useful for live tweakage) and the motion sequencer is excellent to, not to mention the arp :D
I sometimes use my EA mkII to sequence my R3 and MS2000b
The MPC is playing 1 shot Samples in this video. Its a Sampler/Sequencer, good for controlling external equipment (synths etc ) and playing Samples live (or sequencing them) :)
@ACiDNATiONN If you don't need the R3 desperately I would get the KP3 first, compliments an Electribe well :) ...then once you have the pennies, grab yourself an R3 ;) lol
I'm using a MPC1000 and Soft-Synths via Midi-Keyboard but i really want to get away from the Macbook & Software in general.
Your setup is pretty much what i'm aiming for. Been looking into Synths and i prefer the R3 over the Microkorg / MK XL because of the better interface.
One question about the Electribes. I've noticed that you are using the "older" A & R to create your sound.
Would you agree that the newer EMX1 pretty much combines the best of both the A & R?
Yeah Im the same dude, wanted to get away from the Mac and Ableton, plus hardware is definately more reliable in a live situation! :)
Ive upgraded to the MPC2500 (although I still use the 500) and I recently I've been doing my songs in Ableton then reworking them onto my hardware for a Live Set by dropping Midi files/wav files onto the MPC and sequencing etc.
Defo get the R3 over the XL (better FX section and full size keys)....
@jamesallan87 ....about the EMX, its slightly different than the ER. The ER uses synthesis for the drums, where as the EMX uses PCM samples, unless you want to use 1 of the 5 synth parts for say a kick drum or snare drum etc. But the EMX is defo better than the EA for synth parts (5 vs 2 and more editing options/waveforms etc). I think thats right lol. If I were you I'd get the EMX and then add an ER for electronic drums (you could even sample them into your MPC).
@DonAudioLabs defo man. I've been thinking about getting an EMX for when I start doing Live Sets, means I can leave the ER/EA at home and sample any sounds that I need from them (thats "if" I need any sounds from them lol).
Will be alot less for me to lug around (MPC2500, MPC500, EMX, R3, MS2000b rack and a Kaoss Pad)
Yeah the EMX defo makes the EA obsolete. The only thing thats better about the EA is it has less functions, meaning its got a faster learning curve, but I dont think you'll have any bother with the EMX :)
having just the EMX means you could use 3 synth parts for melodies/basslines etc and 2 could be used for shaping drums using the synth engine (like the ER does, but in even more detail), then you have the PCM drums sounds which you could layer on top of them!
Great track dude! Let me know when you record it please. I have a question: what are you using the green electribe for? I just want to know what each instrument is doing. Thanks!
@rockstaragb Thanks Dude. I'll re-record it properly through summer and add in some new sections/sounds so i'll keep you posted!
The green electribe (A mkII) is doing the Bass sound which enters at 1:58. The red Electribe (R MkII) is doing the Drum beats and Percussion/Bleeps. The R3 does the gated Pad sound and then the Arp enters on Timbre 2 later in the song. And finally the MPC has the Vocoded Vocal samples loaded, which I trigger in real time :D
damnnnn- my speakers are pure shite for bass, I don't have a subwoofer, these things are $10 (although soon imma get some ath-m50s to fix this) and yet the bass drum from your electribes was BOOMING. Wow. Amazing. Can't wait to hear this with some decent cans.
The kicks from the Electribe are insane, I'd love to hear it through a club sound system :)
I mixed this a little more Bass Drum heavy than I usually would, just because most people will listen to it through PC/Laptop speakers...so Im glad you liked it!
You'll love the ATH-M50's, great headphones for the price
@jamesallan87 yea, this stufff is sweet :-) I heard one of your other jams a while back, just found this today. Those electribe kicks really are sweet.
How are you liking your R3? I haven't found it much too my tastes yet... it sounds a bit, IDK, stale in my opinion. What do you think?
I love my R3 lol. Even though I have the MS2000, Electribes, favourite Soft Synths etc, I always find myself going to the R3 first. Im constructing a Live Set just now and although certain Synths are used for Bass, Pads etc. I usually create the basic sounds on the R3 then copy the Parametres over to the other synths, and then tweak to taste. The effect section in the R3 helps alot too. Stick with it man! :) It also sounds great through a PA system ;) Cheers
@mareK1352 Hey Dude. I plan to do a proper Recording of this through the summer. But for the meantime I can make the MP3 or WAV available for download if u like? Thanks for watching!
nice set you could make some sweet jams with that stuff.. my friend has almost all of these toys but he never seams to use them in this way... he just uses them one at a time and over the top sounds like shit any one know what i mean
@philocon Thanks man. Im still learning new stuff all the time with these beasts. My setups a little different now, so Im hoping to be active on Youtube through the summer! Thanks again!
@NoSignalComedy Im gonna make it available for download dude! It will just be the live version recorded for Youtube, but i'll do a proper recording/mix through summer. Msg me and i'll send u a link. Cheers for watchin!
Hey. I had the Electribes synced via Midi clock. The setup up was like so :
(Master) ER midi out >>>> EA midi in (slave), then EA midi thru >>>> R3 midi in. The R3 was only receiving the midi clock info (to sync the Arp) not note data.
There are ways to program Pattern changes on the Electribes so one machine can change both, but I usually like to change patterns myself for improvisation etc or my MPC2500 does that for me.
I like this, it's very pleasant sounding. How do you like those headphones? I just bought an R3 bundle with almost the same ones and have not received it yet.
You also need a bit of a distraction to break it up, like a nose-flute solo or something mad.
I love the sounds, the arpeggiator really makes it classy and intelligent. It gives me the image of multiple smiling aphex twins throwing beachballs to each other under the florida sun in slow motion. But maybe that's just me.
I like this a lot. Please fix it, release it, and get famous, and tell everyone that the nose flute was my idea!
Yeah I defo dragged it on a bit to long and I would like to add another section in. Thats my problem when its comes to improvising, I just get carried away! and I'll give the nose flute a try! lol
Thanks for the Aphex comment, was much appreciated!
Im gonna redo this over the next few months and track it into a Pro Tools HD system and mix/master it properly. U'll be the first to get a copy when I do so :)
Thanks again for the constructive criticism and nice comments, glad u enjoyed!
@jamesallan87 That's how you do it man, 3 takes -go wild then begin to cut the session recordings into a 5 min track "mix". Start by doubling tracks, tweak the EQ , tighten up a couple things in post and you've got a "studio" demo.
I actually just bought the biggest version of it for my Live Set because I needed room for my new MPC2500, MS2000br and KRKs, aswell as the gear in this video
This one is now gets used for my DAW setup (laptop, external monitor, midi controller, mbox2, Krk RP6 G2's and a few other things
@efil4flogi Yeah I use them for listening to music, mixing (if Im in college etc), watchin Youtube videos, with drum machines/synths and plugged into my guitar amps or POD aswell
There very versatile and although they arent cheap, they will last alot longer than most headphones because they have excellent build quality
My Video review of these Headphones is coming ver soon, so any questions you have just let me know and i'll answer them =)
It is my musical alias. its actually the name I use for my electro-ish tracks, but I thought I'd just fire the name in anyway, get some myspace hits aswell
Thanks dude. Ive just added the MPC2500, Korg Ms2000 B rack and a Line 6 m13 to my setup....been putting Basslines/Breaks through the M13 with some overdrive and its been sounding gd so far!
Yeah I just had the urge to record some vocoded vocal snippets. Its not something I would have usually done, but I think its my favourite song of mine so far....I really need to do a proper studio recording of it
bro!! it's deffinately an R3 im getting.....hahaha i saw the microkorg xl and it's nothing like wut i had in mind! damn it's soo small! and the key's it's like an old casio kid keyboard. yah im buying the R3 in a few days and i'll hook u up with wutever patches ill make. Thanks a lot for ur help, if it werent for u i wouldve had a microkorg xl by now :P, thnx again :))
If you have the extra money I'd definately say the R3. Its only a little bigger but has the full size keys.
I know in the UK its about £100 cheaper for the XL.
I think it also has more effects than the XL.
The XL would be a great synth to get, but if you dont need portability then the R3 is defo the best choice.
You also may get bored/out grow the smaller keys, which means you either need to get another midi controller or upgrade to a synth/keyboard with bigger keys.
How do you like the Audio Technica ATH-M50? I was looking to buy some within a week or so. Is there anything you don't like about them? How is the bass? Do you have the straight cable edition or the coiled cable?
I have the coiled cable version. They have got a really nice bass response, tight and accurate.
The coiled cable is actually the only thing that I dont like about them, I just think it could have been longer. (not a major issue though)
If you have any other questions about the headphones then message me. Im gonna do a video review of them and get it posted asap because i've had alot of messages and comments asking about them.
The Didge sounds awesome through the filter effects, it's a great midi sequencer, midi controller, it's a synth, a basic drum machine sequencer, loads of tweakable effects.
I've been getting into sequencing my Yamaha DJXIIB with a Roland EF303 and some VST's, plus a bit of guitar over the top. With a bit of imagination some good results can be had.
I looked at the EMU MP7 too, which looks pretty useable.
Anyhoo...Thanks again.
Gareth
ps: Have you discovered the "Hobnox" virtual online studio/sequencing page. Worth a look and you can record what you do, then upload & download it.
I was on Hobnox once, a little over a year ago I think. I read about it in Computer Music...but after I had been on it, I completely forgot the name of it, so I could never find the site again! lol
Many thanks for pointing me in its direction again!! :)
I signed up - user name is Bit Clone (my new project, songs will be up soon!)
That EF303 looks nice!
You should check out the AKAI XR20 aswell, especially if your after a Drum Machine
I just came, where did you get that C64 sound at 2:42. is it R3 preset or your own programming? been dreaming of MPC for some time, you got some nice gear here. really chillaxing beat dude! 5 distant suns for you matey!
The sound at 2:42 is my own programming. I just used the 2nd timbre and put on an Arp set to 16ths (Up & Down I think) and a basic Saw wave with some High Pass filtering and a fast attack, sustain and release just to keep it blippy
I never noticed it was C64 sounding until you mentioned it. I think that will be getting the spot light in another tune now =)
Thanks for the distant suns man, hope you cleaned up after shooting your load ;) lol
I've only used it once with Ableton and the latency was maybe about 200ms. I might be able to lower that, so i'll mess around with it and get back to you
The 200ms latency would be okay if you are recording everything through the mixer at once, but I defo wouldn't recommend it if you were wanting to do overdubs
DUUuude, two things are missing from this video::::: The huge watch (LOL) and the Kaoss pad =D
anyway, nice and relaxing stuff here. would suggest some messing around with some filters and such.
but anyway, im coding stuff on reason and ableton, but watching stuff on youtube has made me feel like I really want to hook up a hardware based set. want to start with an emx-1 or esx-1, a kaoss pad.... already bought a micro korg last week. hope you post more jams in the future. (:
I think i'll use Ableton in my Live songs at some point, Ive just upgraded from 7 to 8, but I've been to busy to get into it yet
I actually like programming synths/grooveboxes and playing them live...itdefinately feels more hands on and more challenging!...which is quite rewarding =)
FIYAH! very jealous...i didnt see you activate your 5 or did u just not use it? i got a 5 but looking to grab the k3 to go with it. the 5 gets old after awhile as a stand alone unit..
Yeah I havent used the 5 as much as I would have liked...I just havent had time to go through the manual etc, so I still have loads to learn.
I only use it for triggering Vocoded Vocal samples in this one...think I might use it for drums/synth samples on my next track...give the Electribes a little break ;) lol
Ive only been programming with this stuff for a few months, but i've been using Ableton and Pro Tools for around 4+ years now, so the Live stuff is still newish to me. Thanks for watchin!
i like the samples and how you trigger them. it's clever. i used an mp3 player with pre-recorded samples i would trigger the track and just repeat it. there's a lot of different ways to do that. keep up the good work
nice... very chill... I like the melody in this tune alot... and I think the vocoded samples sound great... been debating between getting an MPC500 or KP3... anyways, great work! would like to see more
The Ea-1 is pretty sick for bass eh? Nice track. Real chill.

There are ways to program Pattern changes on the Electribes so one machine can change both, but I usually like to change patterns myself for improvisation etc or my MPC2500 does that for me.
I love Midi ;)
Cheers for watching!

I like this, it's very pleasant sounding. How do you like those headphones? I just bought an R3 bundle with almost the same ones and have not received it yet.
ariasdad 1 year ago
Nice, veryyyyy nice... drags on a bit though.
Please fix it, release it, and get famous, and tell everyone that the nose flute was my idea!
emmetor 2 years ago
Yeah I defo dragged it on a bit to long and I would like to add another section in. Thats my problem when its comes to improvising, I just get carried away! and I'll give the nose flute a try! lol
Thanks for the Aphex comment, was much appreciated!
Im gonna redo this over the next few months and track it into a Pro Tools HD system and mix/master it properly. U'll be the first to get a copy when I do so :)
Thanks again for the constructive criticism and nice comments, glad u enjoyed!
jamesallan87 2 years ago
@jamesallan87 That's how you do it man, 3 takes -go wild then begin to cut the session recordings into a 5 min track "mix". Start by doubling tracks, tweak the EQ , tighten up a couple things in post and you've got a "studio" demo.

AudioOnScene 2 years ago
haha yeah its the Fredrick workstation from Ikea
I actually just bought the biggest version of it for my Live Set because I needed room for my new MPC2500, MS2000br and KRKs, aswell as the gear in this video
This one is now gets used for my DAW setup (laptop, external monitor, midi controller, mbox2, Krk RP6 G2's and a few other things
I love them man, awesome desks for the money!

have you ever used the ATH-m50's for music? i'm thinkin about getting a pair they're supposed to be amazing. thanks
efil4flogi 2 years ago
@efil4flogi Yeah I use them for listening to music, mixing (if Im in college etc), watchin Youtube videos, with drum machines/synths and plugged into my guitar amps or POD aswell
There very versatile and although they arent cheap, they will last alot longer than most headphones because they have excellent build quality
My Video review of these Headphones is coming ver soon, so any questions you have just let me know and i'll answer them =)
Cheers!

what pc software? ableton, fl, readon, cubcase? Or nothing att all? :)
TheVoopover 2 years ago
Nothing at all in this video. Its strictly hardware with the ER mkII as the master clock
When I do studio Productions/Recordings I use Ableton Live 8, Reason 4, Waves + Arturia Plugins, plus loads more random VSTs

Is the cross mod the only difference b/t the ER-1 and ER-1MKII?
RamzGT 2 years ago
Yeah it is.
The knobs of the MKII are more like the newer tribes (EMX/ESX) and obviously the metal outer casing is new.
Pick some of the older tribes up man, there great fun!

bro!! it's deffinately an R3 im getting.....hahaha i saw the microkorg xl and it's nothing like wut i had in mind! damn it's soo small! and the key's it's like an old casio kid keyboard. yah im buying the R3 in a few days and i'll hook u up with wutever patches ill make. Thanks a lot for ur help, if it werent for u i wouldve had a microkorg xl by now :P, thnx again :))
ramidubbb 2 years ago
Hey man did u get ur R3?
Theres some good patches by TecRoc, Axxim and others over at Korg Forums
jamesallan87 2 years ago
hmm alright then, thanks for ur help :).... im gna try out both before i buy :P
ramidubbb 2 years ago
@ramidubbb Yeah thats the best thing to do. Alot of people just order a Microkorg cus there cheaper, but then they cant get used to the keys! lol
Let me know which one you get, and if you make any patches for the Patch Editor then let me know and we can trade some =) (thats if you get an R3)

Thanks for checkin out my vids =)
jamesallan87 2 years ago
how do u like the r3?? im thinking of getting that or the microkorg xl any ideas? and nice track btw :)
ramidubbb 2 years ago
If you have the extra money I'd definately say the R3. Its only a little bigger but has the full size keys.
I know in the UK its about £100 cheaper for the XL.
I think it also has more effects than the XL.
The XL would be a great synth to get, but if you dont need portability then the R3 is defo the best choice.
You also may get bored/out grow the smaller keys, which means you either need to get another midi controller or upgrade to a synth/keyboard with bigger keys.
Thanks for viewin!
jamesallan87 2 years ago
How do you like the Audio Technica ATH-M50? I was looking to buy some within a week or so. Is there anything you don't like about them? How is the bass? Do you have the straight cable edition or the coiled cable?
DrSandeepluthra 2 years ago
I have the coiled cable version. They have got a really nice bass response, tight and accurate.
The coiled cable is actually the only thing that I dont like about them, I just think it could have been longer. (not a major issue though)
If you have any other questions about the headphones then message me. Im gonna do a video review of them and get it posted asap because i've had alot of messages and comments asking about them.
Thanks for watchin

I highly recomend an EF303, iT DOES LOADS !!
The Didge sounds awesome through the filter effects, it's a great midi sequencer, midi controller, it's a synth, a basic drum machine sequencer, loads of tweakable effects.
I saw one go on ebay for just £63 the other week.
They were over £400 when they first came out.
If you see one, grab it, you won't regret it !!
I'll have a look at the Akai XR20 too
Cheers

I really enjoyed ur 2 vids....you have a nice setup!
jamesallan87 2 years ago
James...you're a star !!
Thanks for that.
I think any one of them would be good.
SONGSTICKS 2 years ago
You're very welcome :)
Thanks again!

Hi James,
I've been looking at Korg Electribes on ebay, there seems to be quite a few different models.
EA-1, ER1, R MKII etc.
Can you enlighten me as to the differences between then please?
Cheers,
Gareth
SONGSTICKS 2 years ago
Hi Gareth
The ER1/Mk2 - (Drums) 3 PCM (Hihats and clap) and 5 drum parts
EA1/Mk2 - 2 mono synths
ES/Mk2 - Sampler
EM1 - several Drum parts and a few Mono Synths (not to sure)
pt 1/2
jamesallan87 2 years ago
pt 2/2
EMX - 9 Drum parts and 5 Synth parts
ESX - 9 One Shot/Drum Parts and 2 Keyboard parts
The Electribes also have editing, effects, accent parts (but I rarely use this), Tube Gain (EMX/ESX only) step editing and much more!
Hope this helped!

I just came, where did you get that C64 sound at 2:42. is it R3 preset or your own programming? been dreaming of MPC for some time, you got some nice gear here. really chillaxing beat dude! 5 distant suns for you matey!
kapyrauhanen 2 years ago
The sound at 2:42 is my own programming. I just used the 2nd timbre and put on an Arp set to 16ths (Up & Down I think) and a basic Saw wave with some High Pass filtering and a fast attack, sustain and release just to keep it blippy
I never noticed it was C64 sounding until you mentioned it. I think that will be getting the spot light in another tune now =)
Thanks for the distant suns man, hope you cleaned up after shooting your load ;) lol
jamesallan87 2 years ago
Actually, I think the Arp sound was a Saw and a Square wave combined, my mistake :)
jamesallan87 2 years ago
great beat man
1 question
has the alesis multimix much latency?
djstarscream1000 2 years ago
I've only used it once with Ableton and the latency was maybe about 200ms. I might be able to lower that, so i'll mess around with it and get back to you
The 200ms latency would be okay if you are recording everything through the mixer at once, but I defo wouldn't recommend it if you were wanting to do overdubs

thx

DUUuude, two things are missing from this video::::: The huge watch (LOL) and the Kaoss pad =D
anyway, nice and relaxing stuff here. would suggest some messing around with some filters and such.
but anyway, im coding stuff on reason and ableton, but watching stuff on youtube has made me feel like I really want to hook up a hardware based set. want to start with an emx-1 or esx-1, a kaoss pad.... already bought a micro korg last week. hope you post more jams in the future. (:
phaeryen 2 years ago
haha yea, the watch will be back soon =) so will the Kaoss Pad
Thanks man, I was defo going for a nice chilled vibe on this one, my next video will be up later this week, its got more of a dark electro vibe
Youtube is also what made me want a Hardware setup. I wanted to get hands on in a more live performance scenario
I think i'll sync Ableton Live 8 with my MPC500, R3 and electribes in 1 of my uncoming videos!
Defo get the Electribe man, it'll go great with the Micro!
Thanks again =)
jamesallan87 2 years ago
I think i'll use Ableton in my Live songs at some point, Ive just upgraded from 7 to 8, but I've been to busy to get into it yet
I actually like programming synths/grooveboxes and playing them live...itdefinately feels more hands on and more challenging!...which is quite rewarding =)

FIYAH! very jealous...i didnt see you activate your 5 or did u just not use it? i got a 5 but looking to grab the k3 to go with it. the 5 gets old after awhile as a stand alone unit..
spuncer500 2 years ago
Yeah I havent used the 5 as much as I would have liked...I just havent had time to go through the manual etc, so I still have loads to learn.
I only use it for triggering Vocoded Vocal samples in this one...think I might use it for drums/synth samples on my next track...give the Electribes a little break ;) lol
The Kp3 will be amazing, im wanting one myself!
Thanks for the comment

i like the samples and how you trigger them. it's clever. i used an mp3 player with pre-recorded samples i would trigger the track and just repeat it. there's a lot of different ways to do that. keep up the good work
