Bowie is great. He created this song in the first place, and like always, he sings it very well. It's great in it's way. The Nirvana cover of this song is great in it's way. The whole point of grunge is to not be elegant or refined - it's to be raw. Kurt Cobain was obviously a very troubled person and expressed some of his anguish through his music as well as through songs by artists he respected enough to cover. Respect both artists; prefer who you want, but don't hate and don't judge.
How lovely to see that the "old man" could still do this song justice 30 years later!! TOP CLASS backing band too, most of them weren't even born when this was written but the drummer, bass player, rhythm and lead guitarists absolutely NAIL this song!! :-D

@georgeambush The Man Who Sold the World is the third studio album by David Bowie. It was originally released on Mercury Records in November 1970 in the United States and in April 1971 in the UK.
How ironic. The man with the best (rock) voice in the world being judged by the peer group who worship the man with the worst voice in the world.
Personally, I never had any taste for grunge but clearly Mr. Cobain did have his influences, and I'm glad he did cover this song.
My reflection of it however is something far beyond the grunge attitude and attire. I see it as a classy piece, devoid of mere mortals ....the opposite of Curt Cobain.
IMO Kurt took the best out of this song! His voice gous much better with the melody. I love the unplugged version by NIRVANA more than the original. But good lyrics by David!
Look guys, David Bowie is a legand. Kurt Cobain is a legand. Both were and still are music icons. It does not matter whos version of the song is better. Its ok to like one more than the other but quit aruging about it. David Bowie is one of the best musicians who ever walked the face of the earth. But on the other hand Kurt was also one of the best. So people quit putting down Kurt and Nirvana fans quit trolling on this video.
@CameraGuitarCoke what is? The stupidity? Covers will always be covers, grunge will always be "garage rock", the music sounds good when nirvana plays it because the music is good, not because they "made" it good, Bowie made it good because he made it, anyone else performing it will be merely a copycat.
Everyone does realize that Curt Cobain says "that was a David Bowie song" at the end of the Nirvana version right? So I dont think there is any confusion.
Plus, this is juste ONE reendition of this song, more cheerful than others actually. Bowie sang it so many times. Check the accoustic versions, amazing.
Look at Bowie, still alive, didnt know it was his song, now I know. But Kurt did it as good as bowie did, maybe even better, but he is dead now, what a shame
iNCREIBLE forma de tocar la guitarra por MICK RONSON y la forma dramàtica en que NO SOLO CNTA SINO ACTUA LA CANCION EL MAESTRO DAVID BOWIE, LO ADORO!!!
David Bowie is of course a legend and amongst the best living singers. In my opinion right besides Paul McCartney and Mike Jagger. BUT: Kurt Cobain and his band made of this soo cool song a PERFECT song! ... Unlike the well known cover of "knock me over at heaven's door" g n' r, compared to its original, this is what actually happened! Just listen to instrumental part in the live rehearsed version of Nirvana.
Ok, so I'm a fan of Nirvana and I also thought that this song was their original. But I gotta say this is better aside from the fact that it's the original, but because it was also performed by a great legend. C'mon kids, you know you gotta listen to your elders when you're talking about what REAL MUSIC is. :)
Unbelievable how many people wrongly assume this is Nirvana's song. Nirvana did a nice cover of a Bowie song (with the exception of the bad slide Kurt played near the end) but Bowie's will always win. Always. No contest. I don't think a lot of people get how much influence Bowie had and still does on a lot of bands current and past. Do your homework people. Otherwise you just look stupid.
Okey, so I am listening to shit, right? Led Zeppelin, The Doors, David Bowie, Bauhuas, The Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of the Nephilim, Siouxsie & the Banshees and MANY more. Not to mention classical music and opera, you call that shit?
It's stupid to assume one doesn't listen to good music beacauseof that person's age. Wake up.. Most of adults listen to shit music too... It has nothing to do with age.
@CathalinaCFC don't twist shit to "try" and make your point. You know damn well most kids out there are listening to shit. I never said you or anyone else in particular - I said most. All anyone has to do is look at charts, video shows, radio and they can see thats true. Again its all subjective. What is shit to me is gold to someone else. As for the age thing - that was directed more towards YouTube but demographics for music absolutely target age. Thats just common sense.
@eyemantra As with anything in marketing and demographics it is generally applied but not all inclusive. Of course there will be people outside the demographic. Like it or not its just how it works. Nowhere in what I wrote did I call any of those bands you listed as shit. Stop trying to start shit. Just makes you look stupid.
@eyemantra So according to you, only young people listen to radio and are responsible for the charts? And all adults listen to good music? Quite stupid notion..
@CathalinaCFC Nooooooo what I wrote is "As with anything in marketing and demographics it is generally applied but not all inclusive. Of course there will be people outside the demographic." I've worked in upper management in marketing for 15 years. Part of that job is buying TV and radio commercials. But you know what - you're gonna twist whatever I say into what ever suits you. You just like to stir shit up or you're quite dense. Either way you're a waste of my time. Ciao
@eyemantra Sorry, I missed your second comment ^^ My apologies...
I can agree with your words (partially), but saying that young people listen to shit music IS stupid and I stand behind that. That sentence should read "People listen to shit music nowadays." Because not only young people have bad taste in music. You know what difference does it make?
And if reading other's people opinions is a waste of time for you, I feel sorry for you.

@eyemantra I actually never realized this was Bowie's song, and I'm a big fan of David Bowie. Thanks. I agree that he has had an incredible influence on music.
@eyemantra now now, Bowie won't always win. I think both versions, Nirvana's cover and Bowie's original, are superb, but they're performed in different genres, which in my mind leaves it down to personal taste.
@TheFlyingPineapple I think Bowie's is superb and Nirvana's is good. I don't claim to have any proof or evidence but it's my opinion that Bowie will always win. It's all subjective and opinion. I think most people get that though. I'm sorry you didn't. :o)
@guitarin1993 popularity doesn' t mean shit. If that were the case that would mean Gaga is better than anyone else. Britney Spears and Justin Beiber rule the airwaves while countless more talented artists go unheard of. When it comes to art and music it always comes down to subjectivity and opinions. My opinion is Bowie's will always be better - and I'm a fan of both. You're entitled to your opinion. Even if it is wrong. lol
@eyemantra Well, popularity does mean shit as the views generally dictate the the amount of people who like the song.. While we're all entitled to our own opinion and while many agree with your statement. Based on the popularity of the cover and the original I'd say based on popularity that Nirvana's version by a general consensus is better from a public view. Genuinely I wish popularity didn't mean shit.. then hopefully we'd have real music on television, instead of bieber, spears and gaga. :p
@guitarin1993 let me rephrase that. Popularity doesn't necessarily mean shit when it comes to quality. If you really need proof hop on over to Billboard charts which are based on sales. With the exception of artists like Adele and a handful of others there are tons of "popular" chart toppers (notice I didn't say artists) that are racking up the bucks in sales and some have more hits than the Bowie and Nirvana videos combined.
@eyemantra I can guarantee there are a lot more Nirvana fans trolling YouTube than there are Bowie fans. There is a huge difference in age demographics. Popularity does not me shit to me. Just because top 40 radio plays for the flocks doesn't mean its all good stuff.
saying that Kurt and Bowie don't belong in the same sentence is like saying you have poor musical education, depriving you from the opportunity to accept that things are not just black and white in this world and especially in the musical world.Change the world man, both versions are good in their own way,so pish off

OMG #1 - Kurt No-brain cant hold Bowie's jock. He is NOT in the same league and should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Bowie. Nirvana is good for what they were. They did a decent cover of this song and no more. #2 - This was written by Bowie showing his creative genious!

There are so many stupid Nirvana fans I can't believe, such a mass hype. Another big group of stupid people coming together making them even more stupid.
I visited David in Beckenham just before he left for Berlin to record Hero’s. This is nothing special as he just accepted us council house kids into his home as friends and played with zowie his child and made us teenage kids so welcome with cups of tea and biscuits. I was 13.
@ralman20154 u so full of hate. why do u compare t-pain and bowie? different kind of music, like comparing basket ball and soccer. t-pain's good bowie's great and that's it
@KristenaBailey shut the fuck up, dude. nirvana is legendary and this guy is nothing but a posing, copy cat douche bag. why don't you go do some research on wikipedia to get the facts.
@blklightning330 i love bowie and nirvanna you dont have to diss bowie personally i like the nirvanna version better but there all great musicians and wikipedia isnt a valid source RIP kurt were all sorry for your murder and if you dont like this comment please feel free to say something on my profile

i don't get it - why there is always people arguing about who played the song better - whatever - beautifull song - both - great artists
nkotof 3 weeks ago 9

Bowie... still going strong... a unique and real Artist...
rogerhlm 3 weeks ago
This song was first released in 1970. While Nirvana, great band that they were, did it justice, it was in no way whatsoever, written for them.

I was 13.

LOL Fuck Kurt Cocain! They should name a shotgun after the loser, he was a pussy and a faggot, thank God he put a bullet through his head.

I love how Bowie has the TALENT to make his voice sound like that, while T-Pain uses a COMPUTER PROGRAM to alter his voice
ralman20154 4 weeks ago 2
@ralman20154 u so full of hate. why do u compare t-pain and bowie? different kind of music, like comparing basket ball and soccer. t-pain's good bowie's great and that's it

@blklightning330 Bowie wrote and recorded this in 1970 when the boys from Nirvana were about 3 or 4. You check your facts.
