  • i'm curious .... where did tony jackson go? .... he was much more talented than the guy that replaced him.

  • @frizzlefrap He left the band when they realized that they had three great lead singers to include Chris Curtis and Mike Pender. It's all very sad that Tony didn't want to share that lead vocalist role, because John, Chris, Mike and Tony, the originals, were the best lineup of all. They each brought something wonderful to the table and it was magic.

  • Very, very coool!!! I love your stereo and all the harmony of Mike, Chris and Tony!! Thank you for posting it!

  • @ChrisCurtisFan Pleased to help out a ChrisCurtis fan with this one. One of their best.

  • Another sweet cover of a Drifters' tune from the best British cover band of the 60's, even more so than their more commercially successful Liverpool rivals! THE SEARCHERS ROCKED! Long live the Mersey Beat!

  • i like too ^^

  • blah blah blah why does every song have be dissected, bissected, torn apart, lokked at for hidden meanings, who does the best version, who stole what from whom. just enjoy the music forget every thing else. get lost in the moment enjoy the music

  • very very good it" as good as the drifters version..

  • Thank you for a rare song

  • @naoyuki54 My pleasure.

  • The boys do a great job on this oldie but goodie! That's Mikey on lead! One of Chris' finds, no doubt. Nice video you put together, SirBB!! Thanks for posting it for us! Cheri

  • Great remake of the 1960 Drifters classic!

  • Another great cover by The Greatest Cover Band of the 60's, The Searchers were just too damned good. Chris Curtis was one hell of a drummer, and the guitar work was mighty nigh to dead solid perfect, Tony Jackson played the bass almost as good as he sang! Damofino I Loved these guys, again, they were the 2nd best band from Liverpool, so thanks You Tube for the space, SirBasildeBrush for the upload, and to The Searchers: Thanks for the memories, you guys were just too too! Rock On Shindiggers!!!

  • Let's take it a step further. After the Drifters the English band 'The Rokes' who had settled in Italy did a song with the same chorus part, they also recorded this in English, called "Passing Thru Grey", then there were the Grass Roots with 'Live for today'. Also check out 'The Riot Squad' doing 'Walking on Ice' A great song with yet again, that same rift.

  • Thanks for the interesting info, youknow your stuff. There are a few others with great similarity to that distinctive "Na Na Na" part.

  • Warwickwas,

Thanks so much for your informative reaction on The "nanana rift" . Either the Rokes or the Grass Roots version fitted on the humming in my memory after hearing this Searchers song.

  • I didn't know The Searchers did this cover. I enjoyed it, thanks for posting it! I personally like The Drifters the best on this one... they give it a little more 'umph'. =)

  • No one will ever be able to beat the Drifters on this one!

  • The Grass Roots number is a translation of an Italian song which in its turn was a rip-off of this Drifters number.

There is also an earlier translated Dutch (!) cover of the Italian song called "Be mine again".

This was the first "white" cover of the Drifters' original. Better than their version of Sweets for my sweet, still... (but I am a Searchers fan, don't get me wrong).

  • cool tune,,,,very nice :)

  • first a bit like '' Lets live for today '' of GRASS ROOTS

    love it so much !!

  • I had a listen to the Grass Roots, and you're right - they do sound very similar in the chorus part !! Thanks.

  • i was right , wasnt i ?

    :))

  • yes, spot on!

  • I like the Searchers generally, but I don't this was the right Drifters song for them to record. The tempo is much too fast and the voices sound tinny.

  • Can't beat the double bass-driven Drifters' original.

  • Thanks for posting; it was a lot of fun. I think the Searchers do a somewhat better job with the Drifters' "Sweets for My Sweet." The Drifters version of "I Count the `Tears," is the greatest, but I heartily recommend to fans of the song that they listen to Irma Thomas's somewhat recent version. It's on her "After the Rain" album. Really fine. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for comment and the info

  • Thanks as ever for uploading these other versions too, if the originals are copyrighted...!! Always loved this song, as well as The Searchers..!! 5*****

  • Hasn't got that thumping bass-line of the Drifters' version which I love so much, but it's still a great version to listen to.

  • My favorite version is by Gerry and the Pacemakers

  • If you've never heard the Drifters version, this would be ok..But after hearing the Driters, there is no match...

  • search drifters on youtube

  • Nowhere near the Drifter's original. For on thing the tempo is much too fast.

  • Good but does not hold a candle to the Drifters...their version was so heart felt...these guys sound a little detached.

  • Excellent, I always thought The Searchers were way better than the Beatles, go figure. I really like The Drifters version of this.

  • Nice cover version. But the original with its lush orchestral backing is still 1000% better. Sorry, Searchers, close but no cigar!

  • Smoking's bad for you anyway...

  • i luv the searchers and this song.there is nothing better than the original.what an tribute to the drifters!!!tks for posting.

  • Thanks for the comment.
