This is brilliant! All it's missing is the red car. Imagine if you had the car too. anyone passing by would have thought "WTF?! I am in a movie right now?!" 'lol
This is not the star truck that went over the cliff. The original had a13 speed road ranger transmition and a different realer, t2 and t2a match set were disroyed at the end of the movie.the footage was also used in the incredible hull episode, "never give a trucker an even break". But not many people have seen that. There's so mutch to learn..
@sabbath7081 I always find it entertaining when people try to tell me things about this truck that I not only Owned .. But .. Have done painstaking research on... Yes.. This rig is " NOT " the one you see in the movie ( that went over the cliff ).. That's why it is listed as the " SURVIVING ". Truck from the movie.. And is the only one out of the " 4 " duel trucks to still exist... This rig does not appear in the movie.. But has more screen credit as the duel truck than the orig..
if i owned this truck, i probably would be using it to scare the shit out of road users in my spare time...without harming/endangering them of course loool!
@ms0487a .. The rig has 2 shifters because it has 2 Tranys. Back in the day. That's how you got that many forward speeds.. 5sp main box. 3sp aux trans.. 15 spds...
That was so cool! I watched this movie when it was first broadcast on ABC television back in the early '70s. Scared me then and still creeps me out now!
I watched this movie I bet over 200 times since I was a kid. I'm 41 now and I still watch it. I love that truck. Autocar's back then cost big bucks to own. I wish I could have owned something from that movie. Same with Maximum Overdrive and Trucks.
Must have been a sight for your neighbors. I remember though on the dvd commentary, speilberg said in the final crash scene of the movie, he only had one take, cause he only had one truck. Who would have guessed there was a 2nd one. But I guess its like other movies too. I believe the Christine Movies, theres 2 or 3 cars remaining. Awesome vid.
@FBCDS82 Yup that's correct. They only had one truck, which is the one that went off the cliff at the end. However, they acquired one or two more to do some additional scenes at a later time. I know for a fact that the railroad crossing scene was added after the movie was done shooting, and I think the school bus scene was as well.
@GeneFrenkle73 Glad you liked the vid.. I was really an honor to own that rig.. Oh by the way ... The guy in the intersection was my neighbor.. So.. He knew it was me behind him...
I used to work in Burbank and recall seeing it driving around a few times and one time it was on a low boy going down the 134. I've lived in Santa Clarita all my life and where Duel was filmed, alot of the same area ain't changed a whole bunch. I also went to high school with George Sack's son. Lots of memories brought back with this little vid.
Friggin EPIC is the only word I can come up with to describe this! I would LOVE to drive that truck around town, and of course out for a stretch on the highway. But just having it in my driveway would be badass! LOL
Aw man-disregard my recent post,I thought it didn't go through until I refreshed the browser, then the original post appeared. Thanks for answering my question. Dad taught me how to shift a "brownie" back in the day. Never got to be a gear jammer due to health reasons but still keep in practice with a friends 350 now and then.Need to find the dvd for my collection now!
Awesome clip-too bad you had to let it go. At least it's still here in the States, for now. I see it has a twin stick,a 4&4,or 5&4? l think the truck in the movie had an airshifter, but haven't seen it for several years. Never knew there was a "surviving" truck, thinking that only one was used, and was destroyed.Always liked them needle-nosed Petes,as well as the iron noses. Wouldn't mind rumbling this rig around my home state, putting it on peoples rear view mirrors! Thanks for posting. Aloha!
That was an awesome rig you had there-too bad you had to let it go. At least it's still in the States, for now. Noticed it has a twin stick, a 4&4,5&4,or 5&3? I believe the one in the movie had an air shifter, but then again,it's been years since l've seen the movie. Didn't know there was a "surviving" truck, seeing it roll off the cliff with a newly acquired bright red bumper in the end. Oh how it would be awesome to thunder around my home state in this Pete! Thanks for posting. Aloha!
Awesome video all the way down to the music and re-enactment of the chase scene! Awhile back, we saw a truck like this one and I couldn't help but wonder if there was a psycho behind the wheel, LOL! Thanks for posting this excellent video!
@RexCars1 HAHA AWESOME. How weird and scary your truck looks when its coming out from your residence in that quiet neighbourhood, reminds me of jeepers creepers truck.
do you know who has it now because i really love this truck also is the rust permanent or is it just oil slapped onto the truck? ps this rig is awesome although the actual truck is my favorite of all time
What I want to know, RexCars, is what you said to your neighbours when you brought it home! "Don't worry, I'll park it in my drive!!" And it looks as if you've got about a foot between your house and a 40 ton truck when driving out! How the hell did you get it back in again!?
A brilliant tribute to a brilliant film! Always been a favourite, and I'm going to favourite this, now!
@nickhirst999 LOL.. Thank you.. As far as my Neighbors.. Burbank CA. is a pretty film oriented town so.. They all knew where the rig was from... oh.. and getting in the driveway. Well.. took a lil practice...
@wheely132 ... LOL.. Well the proper word here is " HAD ".. I no longer own this rig... Second of all.. The orig truck you see in the movie.. DID go over the cliff.. This rig was the stand by truck... and too my knowledge.. Is the only surviving Duel truck to exist today....
I noticed that in the movie, one of the trucks has the air conditioner box mounted out behind the rear window of the cab. Still, I love this movie and would freak out if I saw this rig coming up on my rear view mirror!
Love that truck. Duel is one of my all time favourite films. You've probably been asked these questions a 100 times, but here goes.....What size engine has it got ? I bet it drank the Diesel for fun. Is it true that the trucks used in the film were in real good shape and they were just "made up" to look aged and worn out ? and lastly....how did you get to own it ? Cheers mate :)
Thanks for great vid, however it made me wonder that are there any differences between this truck and the one that went over the cliff and also were there actually more trucks used in Duel? That would clear some things up for me, thanks
2:51 is either the exact same road as in the movie or just very similar. It's the curve the truck takes pretty fast at 2 different times during the movie. The original movie truck reportedly would only go about 55mph so Spielburg had to use camera tricks such as filming in front of a cliff to make it appear the truck was going faster than it really was.
when i was a kid i was afraid of trucks for a long time because of that movie...love the truck looks good, just saw the movie on tv the other day thats cool their is one from the movie still out their
@BillyBigTop Yes it really was my truck.. The truck you see in the movie Duel really did go over the cliff.. This was used as a stand by truck for the movie and was not used.. That being said.. It is the only known Truck from that movie to still exist..
@RexCars1 wow that is brilliant ! you must get thousands of looks when you take her out for a drive!.... was that also filmed in the same place the film was?
Love the video, love the truck. I like the Duel truck so much I had to find one. Recently I was lucky enough to find a similar truck. Mine, though, is a 62 351 Pete with a 10x3, the frame is quite a bit longer and it has 4 headlights (which will be changed to the the dual headlights soon). Those early Petes just have a sinister look to them. Fun stuff!
I bet the guy at the stoplight loaded his pants when the truck rolled up behind him and honked! lol. This is REALLY neat! After ALL these years to see footage like this. It's weird to see the truck rollin' in a residential area. Also REALLY creepy, too! Awesome Job! DUEL rules! =)
@dibbie67 LOL... Well.. The Guy at the stoplight was is my neighbor.. So.. He knew who i was.. ( but he did not. know i was going to get that close to him ).. Thanks.. I can't begin to tell you how much fun it was to own that truck....
when i first saw this movie when i was really young i was afraid of trucks like those xD but i swear if i saw one of the actual trucks on the road.... i would crap my pants
@thundercracker22 The second shifter in the truck is for the second transmission. Back in the early day's Before air shifted tranny's . They had to put another trans behind the first one to give the truck enough forward speeds.. as far as all trucks having 10 speeds.. Not true..
@RexCars1 i didnt knew that , i used to think the mirror on the hood was to keep an eye on the stack to watch out for clearance when passing under low bridges or getting in or out of garages and warehouses.
Oh my..... Duel is one of my favorite movies! When I saw the truck in the driveway (in your video, I would've died to see it in person) I thought aw cool, he had the cab. But, damn as you were pulling out and I noticed the trailer behind it, my jaw hit the floor! The whole truck! sigh that was great. Thanks for making/uploading this! I'm 32, so when the movie was released on TV, I wasn't born, but I'm glad they replayed enough for me to be able to watch it all those years later.
All this time, nobody knew that the truck never actually flew off the cliff. The truck is still hiding somewhere... WITH VENGEANCE IN ITS HEART OF STEEL!
@WadexRS Well.. What you saw in the movie was true.. It really did go over the cliff.... The truck you see here was the stand by truck. . but.. its the only surviving truck from the movie known still to exist...
Awesome vid! The chase scenes look like they could have come straight out of the movie! And btw, love hove the can flys (spelling?) off the exhaust pipe when you start it up.
@AyakoRacing Thanks ... That is the whole premise of the Vid..... The truck comes to life.. Go's out and finds a few cars to chase.. And then.. Slinks back into its driveway...
Duel was the first horror film I ever saw, and is still hands down my favourite. I love getting people to see it for the first time. This vid was a real treat to see, that truck is STILL terrifying. Thank you for sharing!
The only difference i noticed is that in the movie the truck had an ac unit attached though the rear window on the cab, but very badass truck i would love to own
@TheStruedel The truck in the movie. ( a 55 281 ).. was an air shifted trans.. But if you look close.. It is an old style 13sp.. It has a spliter on the shift tower. and... another spliter on the shift handle... The truck you see here in the vid is a 5x3..
well that is one of the best videos i have seen, your attention to detail on copying the original and adding in abit of city driving, was excellent. really loved the start up where you blew the can off the pipe that was a nice touch lol. you said at the end you sold it to dan bruno, he is the same guy that owns the convoy mack, is he a collector?? thats what i love about america. you can buy a piece of a famous movie, try doing that anywhere else..... thanks for an awesome vid...
That movie scared the crap out of me as a kid, and although in Australia there weren't that many imported, I did see one similar shape maybe 30 year ago, gave me a feeling of dread.
You owned that truck? Lucky bastard! lol

Hi Rex!
I think people no listen nor bother watch!
Maybe they no speak English or American!
I do!
Duel was Steven Spielberg's first film and i first saw the second edition of it on British TV in 1976.
Duel has remained in my top favourite film spot since then and this is, as you say, Rex, the SURVIVING TRUCK !
Look people! This truck is the one which DIDN'T end up over the cliff top! OK?
I thought Rex had made that clear!

how does the 10 gear and 2 shifters work?
zackownsathalo3 1 year ago
I noticed that in the movie, one of the trucks has the air conditioner box mounted out behind the rear window of the cab. Still, I love this movie and would freak out if I saw this rig coming up on my rear view mirror!

This is great! it's an awesome movie!

Cheers mate :)
swanseajackthe3rd 1 year ago
Thanks for great vid, however it made me wonder that are there any differences between this truck and the one that went over the cliff and also were there actually more trucks used in Duel? That would clear some things up for me, thanks

i think speilberg should make a sequal that tells the trucker's side
NickBFilms 1 year ago 24
2:51 is either the exact same road as in the movie or just very similar. It's the curve the truck takes pretty fast at 2 different times during the movie. The original movie truck reportedly would only go about 55mph so Spielburg had to use camera tricks such as filming in front of a cliff to make it appear the truck was going faster than it really was.

when i was a kid i was afraid of trucks for a long time because of that movie...love the truck looks good, just saw the movie on tv the other day thats cool their is one from the movie still out their

I would think that the green handled shift lever is for selecting high range and low range.

Really cool truck. I'm glad it's still with us today. =)

hey there was this your truck and was it really featured in the film Duel ... im a massive fan from Liverpool England!
BillyBigTop 1 year ago
@BillyBigTop Yes it really was my truck.. The truck you see in the movie Duel really did go over the cliff.. This was used as a stand by truck for the movie and was not used.. That being said.. It is the only known Truck from that movie to still exist..
RexCars1 1 year ago
@RexCars1 wow that is brilliant ! you must get thousands of looks when you take her out for a drive!.... was that also filmed in the same place the film was?
BillyBigTop 1 year ago
Love the video, love the truck. I like the Duel truck so much I had to find one. Recently I was lucky enough to find a similar truck. Mine, though, is a 62 351 Pete with a 10x3, the frame is quite a bit longer and it has 4 headlights (which will be changed to the the dual headlights soon). Those early Petes just have a sinister look to them. Fun stuff!

that movie scared the crap out of me when i was young and if that pulled up behind me i think i would crap my self or gun the gas pedal
joeltorres11 1 year ago
I bet the guy at the stoplight loaded his pants when the truck rolled up behind him and honked! lol. This is REALLY neat! After ALL these years to see footage like this. It's weird to see the truck rollin' in a residential area. Also REALLY creepy, too! Awesome Job! DUEL rules! =)
dibbie67 1 year ago 21
@dibbie67 LOL... Well.. The Guy at the stoplight was is my neighbor.. So.. He knew who i was.. ( but he did not. know i was going to get that close to him ).. Thanks.. I can't begin to tell you how much fun it was to own that truck....
RexCars1 1 year ago
when i first saw this movie when i was really young i was afraid of trucks like those xD but i swear if i saw one of the actual trucks on the road.... i would crap my pants

What is the gear shift with the green handle for? I thought a truck like this only had ten gears.
Thank you for your help.
thundercracker22 1 year ago
@thundercracker22 The second shifter in the truck is for the second transmission. Back in the early day's Before air shifted tranny's . They had to put another trans behind the first one to give the truck enough forward speeds.. as far as all trucks having 10 speeds.. Not true..
RexCars1 1 year ago
@thundercracker22 now adays truck that size can have a 10 13 or 18 speed tranny.:) have a good one

thundercracker22 1 year ago
What is the mirror on the hood of the truck used for?
thundercracker22 1 year ago
@thundercracker22 The mirror on the hood is so the driver can keep an eye on the stack to watch how much smoke..
RexCars1 1 year ago
@RexCars1 i didnt knew that , i used to think the mirror on the hood was to keep an eye on the stack to watch out for clearance when passing under low bridges or getting in or out of garages and warehouses.

If I was driving down the road and saw that truck I would have flipped out..
kooldude0788 1 year ago
I'm 32, so when the movie was released on TV, I wasn't born, but I'm glad they replayed enough for me to be able to watch it all those years later.
altieryikes 1 year ago 5
All this time, nobody knew that the truck never actually flew off the cliff. The truck is still hiding somewhere... WITH VENGEANCE IN ITS HEART OF STEEL!
WadexRS 1 year ago
@WadexRS Well.. What you saw in the movie was true.. It really did go over the cliff.... The truck you see here was the stand by truck. . but.. its the only surviving truck from the movie known still to exist...

Too bad you couldn't find a buddy with a red Plymouth Valiant. I can imagine
coming up behind that on a desert road. Anyone over the age of 50 would
INSTANTLY recognize it and FREAK OUT!

@4freespeech The new owner Brad from " Brads Trucks ".. Has purchased a Plymouth Valiant . to go along with the Rig...

Awesome vid! The chase scenes look like they could have come straight out of the movie! And btw, love hove the can flys (spelling?) off the exhaust pipe when you start it up.

ANybody got a bit of a uncomfortable feeling at 0:17?
Having the truck sitting there and come back to life... staring back at you with those round beady headlights..
AyakoRacing 1 year ago
@AyakoRacing Thanks ... That is the whole premise of the Vid..... The truck comes to life.. Go's out and finds a few cars to chase.. And then.. Slinks back into its driveway...
RexCars1 1 year ago
@AyakoRacing ... Those headlight's really look like eyes sometime.. It's pretty obvious why they picked that truck....

Duel was the first horror film I ever saw, and is still hands down my favourite. I love getting people to see it for the first time. This vid was a real treat to see, that truck is STILL terrifying. Thank you for sharing!
GreyDancer42 1 year ago
The only difference i noticed is that in the movie the truck had an ac unit attached though the rear window on the cab, but very badass truck i would love to own
Trucker06660 1 year ago
@Trucker06660 Also the one used in the movie had a ten speed, not a 4x4 or 5x4
TheStruedel 1 year ago
@TheStruedel The truck in the movie. ( a 55 281 ).. was an air shifted trans.. But if you look close.. It is an old style 13sp.. It has a spliter on the shift tower. and... another spliter on the shift handle... The truck you see here in the vid is a 5x3..
RexCars1 1 year ago
well that is one of the best videos i have seen, your attention to detail on copying the original and adding in abit of city driving, was excellent. really loved the start up where you blew the can off the pipe that was a nice touch lol. you said at the end you sold it to dan bruno, he is the same guy that owns the convoy mack, is he a collector?? thats what i love about america. you can buy a piece of a famous movie, try doing that anywhere else..... thanks for an awesome vid...

@ipdaily6 Thanks.. The Truck has been since been sold and is now owned by Brads Trucks in NC...

That movie scared the crap out of me as a kid, and although in Australia there weren't that many imported, I did see one similar shape maybe 30 year ago, gave me a feeling of dread.
