The performance would've been better if the other two guys would have shut up and just let Chris Thompson sing. He's the only one with a professional voice!
This is good ... but like the original band better and of course the song sounded better then ... don't like all that guitar stuff .... but it's live and I guess they have to fill the time in ..
Stop comparing and judging in such a silly way, all of them Springsteen, Dylan, Manfred Mann are gifted musicians taking it to different places and that for God's sake is a great thing. I immensly enjoy the jamming style of MMEB, Springsteen and Dylan, which do different things. Manfred Mann did aawsome covers but I like the originals too. So stop bitching and just enjoy what each of them has to offer.
In the mid 70's, I saw MM open for The Allman Brothers at The St. Paul Civic Center. The kid next to us, who was probably 15 or 16 went berserk jumping up and down and screaming. He like most everyone there came to hear TABB. He'd never heard of MM and asked us, "Who the @#@$ is this?!!" :-) Honestly, MM stole the show that night. Greg and the Band were off- wasted and just didn't live up to everyone's expectations. But Manfred- he blew us away that night!
Manfred Mann was on the scene b-4 Springsteen , but not long b-4 Dylan. Bob was gruntin' songs out in the mid 50's.............that bein' said, I'm not sure that there would be a better group to see live than Manfred Mann's Earth Band for a straight up music lover.............they simply jam
WOW! Listen to that! Noel McCalla can't even come close to Chris Thompson! It sounds so good with Chris on vocals. I wish they would get him back in the lineup. MMEB is a phenomenal act!
I'm not to sure that Springsteen would be half where he is at now had it NOT been for Manfred Mann...after all...Blinded by the light basicly jumpstarted the bland Bruce.
I don't agree with that statement about Dylan and Springsteen. Manfred Mann was on the scene long before either of the other two, and had his own hits. If anything, Mann picked some really bad songs, and turned them around to make them hits. Again, to Mann's credit, with the proper arrangment skills and instrumentation, he was able to give the public something really interesting to listen to. I like Springsteen, but not how he did "Blinded By The Light".
@trux04 i disagree with the bad songs statement. for example they covered springsteen's "for you" (their cover isn't bad) but there are versions out there done by him which are just remarkable (solo piano london 1975 for example)

Is there a video of this (I guess you'd call it updated) version, but from the studio album. Could someone direct me, please?

Manfred Mann was formed 1962, Dylan started 1961. Dylan ftw.

Manfred Mann owes a lot to Dylan and Springsteen.
They gave him a lot of hits between them!
But Manfred has also been a great talent!
And knows how to pick a hit!

At least we don't have to put up with Dylans whining voice on this version. Good writer. Shit singer.
17091958 4 years ago
two artists stride the 20th cent like no others - "Dylan cant sing like Picasso cant paint"
dylan is liked by his real fans BECAUSE of his voice and his sense of rythym - his song writing comes third

Great version, but too many people forget that this song was written by Bob Dylan !...
