  • The texas education system has consistantly proven it CANNOT produce a viable product. Look at SAT scored vs the rest of the nation. Look at graduation rates. Everyone wants to act like we are destroying some beautiful program that has shaped the lives of millions of people when in actuality, when you strip away the emotions you have to say to yourself "It can't get much worse". I think many teachers need to go.

  • I feel that many people are losing the vision of what this country could become. So many are saying our best days are behind us and there is no point to try and educate our youth.

  • Most folks at my school do not yet know that this might happen so I can't directly ask anyone close to me. I'm curious what questions YOU might have for our Governor if you had the opportunity. I'll probably get in trouble with my Pricipal but what do I have to lose? Besides, I've done a bit more for my country and my state than raise children and go to some job and pay my taxes. We all deserve direct answers and I don't mind asking them if I have the opportunity.

  • @SunZen I am not sure what I would ask Perry if I could. He seems to have spelled out his position clearly. Perry seems to put education as a low priority. I do not particularly dislike Perry, but I feel he is making a terrible mistake. The governor should lead a state through budget problems rather than throw in the towel and say we cannot continue moving forward in a competitive world. I feel there are answers, if Perry will lead.

  • I knew it would be great experience and that I would have an even better chance if I were a district employee, so I took a job as a Structured Teach Class Aid. Now it appears that many of the amazing and truly gifted Teachers that I work with may lose their jobs next year due to budget cuts. This is of course very upsetting to many people. Ironically, one of my students is a friend of Gov Rick Perry and he is going to come and visit my ST Class.

  • Prior to deploying to Iraq in 2009 with my Texas Army National Guard unit, I completed my alternative teacher certification and passed the state EC-12 SPED. I was so excited about returning home and becoming a teacher. I even called a few Principals and HR folks from Iraq regarding open positions. When I finally got back home the only positions available were for Paraprofessionals.
