Well, Will and Grace and representations of homosexuality on the few reality tv shows I've endured, Samwell, etc. strike me a lot like Mary Tyler Moore wearing pants on the Dick Van Dyke show. It's pop culture catching up with the moral zeitgeist.
I'm not sure I'd argue "something" is better then nothing. If history is any indication, pop culture acceptance of homosexual men as "just like girls, only more so" will be just as bad, imo, as it has been for women. But it's progress of a sort.
