  • Love it!

  • It's sad... I can't seem to find anyone who has the same obsession in this band that I do. Quite sad, indeed.

  • Yeah, me too Smiths.. HIGH SCHOOL ;)

  • jo rowling loves the smiths so it can't be bad music....

  • Three word gesture meaning " i Love you" ...Words he never said or did say ..but it ended up being regret ... The rest of the lyrics seem to dwell on being a person whom makes mistakes ...and feels self conscious about his feelings about intimacy ...So he goes into self deprecation too redeem is "not too sure " feelings .

  • top song, and LP, strangeways.

  • love this song too defo me always start something i can,t finish

  • He started something he couldnt finish. What is he singing about?

  • @aupathletic27 "I doused our friendly venture With a hard-faced, three-word gesture I started something I forced you to a zone and you were clearly never meant to go" i think he means he said i love you to someone and he now regrets it because its changed their relationship... dunno know what the "18 months hard labour" is about tho

  • Wat a guitarist Marr was

  • The Smiths:so f***ing awesome!

  • yeah, clearin out 'under me stairs'!

  • "And now eighteen months' hard labour seems... fair enough"

  • This is one of the best songs in the world. It is so brilliant!

  • This song, full blast, played through the PA at the Ritz Ballroom in Manchester in the mid-80's.... Perfect!

  • As much as I love this number, I keep expecting SuperGran to make an appearance at any moment!

  • not bad for a fan made video for all those that say this isnt a video but a slideshow go to hell!

  • Morrissey is one in a million, his voice is just insane.

  • typical me typical me typical me.

  • That picture of Morrissey hugging Jonny makes me tear up. Rest in peace "The smiths".

  • @TricksterVision I have that poster on my front door... Morrissey & Marr were the best couple to ever make music together... too bad when their personal chemistry died The Smiths did as well.

  • I'm here sitting in the front of my PC listen to this wonderfoul song while my wedding is going to finish for ever. I really would like to finish what I have started 15 years ago !

  • @steu968 I'm not sure if that was some wild metaphor but if you want to save your marriage break up for 6 months, you can both do whatever you want, on the condition that you get back together at the end. This saves 99% of marriages. It was on This Morning. So it must be true...

  • I'm here sitting in the front of my PC listen to this wonderfoul song while my wedding is going to finish for ever. I really would like to finish what I have started 15 years ago !

  • THE SMITHS SON MI AGRUDPACION PREFERIDA LOS ADORO, ME ENCANTAN, DELICIOSOS.

  • This is a terrible song to have sex to! considering the name of the song...

  • @ChaosTitties Not with fat chicks it isn't.

  • Splendid Stuff!!!! ;) x

  • looooove this love the smiths

  • Comment removed

  • morrissey is my future husband :)

  • Nice photo collection. Good video substitute. Thanks.

  • This song is so like the story of my relationship train-wrecks. Forcing things and people where they were not meant to go. Hormones in my life producing stupid results. :(

  • I have had Sex while listening to The Smiths. I think this is an excellent band to grind to. I have a admit I and In Love with The Smiths.

  • Nicest Smiths' album cover collection I have seen on youtube! Great job!!!

  • I started something I couldn't finish; a Smiths obsession...

  • @EditorTasha I 'started something' long ago, way back in '85!!! This is one 'addiction' that I bloody LOVE havin'!

    Cheers, love!

    - J

  • 3 people cope better with commencement than with termination.

  • .7

  • they are the 80's version of the lennon/ mccartney

  • been into The Smiths since day one. Listen to them almost daily and every time i do my misses tuts and nods her head in disaproval! I dunno.

  • @tilerman uhh, sounds like you need to beat her ass

  • Generation-X Rules!

  • They were the best.

  • There will NEVER be another band that releases 4 studio albums in such quick succession that has the impact, both socially and musically, that The Smiths had. You hear their work in loads of music today, from The Killers to Interpol to Arctic Monkeys...And in Morrissey, they had the greatest living British lyricist....,

  • @TheConstellation72 How about Roger Hodgson from Supertramp or Roger Waters from Pink Floyd or John Lennon they all wrote the music and Lyrics, thats killing two birds with one stone

  • @TheConstellation72 *cough* the pixies *cough*

  • @CaptBattleship

Good shout with Pixies-but for me, their last two albums, and especially Trompe Le Monde let them down.....That said, their firsr 3 are on a par with The Smiths first 3....

  • @TheConstellation72 Bossanova is gorgeous!!

  • I love that guitar fill between 29 - 34 second in!

  • 18 months hard labour seems...Fair Enough.

  • Such a great song ! Thanks for a fantastic and proper video!

  • so brilliant

  • morrissey could sing the phone book and i'd be amazing

  • Thanks for the quality upload for the sound

And I think the video works....

  • Morrissey's voice sounds so eargasmic in this song!

  • awesome upload!!!!!! really appreciate it... this is a real classic - it combines one of their classic pieces with a bunch of classic photos - this is a tribute to a band, which (like many of the great ones) ended far to soon (see under beatles, pixies, nirvana, audioslave, etc.)

  • grrrrrrrrrthat's what tradition means!

  • STUPENDA CANZONE DEI SMITHS !!!

  • fuck you @mikeatEMEco

  • 0:34 is so cute

  • @idSuperego IKR! I printed it out and now it's hangin on my door XD

    I'm serious... ._.

  • OMFG! Ive been looking for this song for like 4 years!

    Finally!!

    Thanks. :)

  • The video for " I Startes Something.." is the one that is used for "Stop Me.."

  • i just wanna touch his penis once and that pompador

  • Has anyone ever noticed how much this number resembles the theme music from SuperGran...?

  • 1:20 ahhh

  • MORRISEY IS A GENUIS.

  • I love when he growls!!

  • I want to have sex with Morrissey's voice.

  • @thebaronvoncarson I agreed at first, but then... what? His voice, and not.. him?

  • @thebaronvoncarson I LOVE THAT!!!!!!!! EPIC!

  • @thebaronvoncarson Anal???

  • @thebaronvoncarson So does Morrissey.

  • @thebaronvoncarson Me,I want to have sex not with his voice, but with Morissey himself!

  • @thebaronvoncarson or just him lol

  • Was this there last single in can remember it being on the t.v in 1987

  • @robbbie67

Second last single, their last one was 'Last Night.......'

  • Love this song!!!, Nice video, The picture with mozz and Johnny, Aw I Love it, (the one Mozz is wearing a Pink shirt and with violet background), they where soo young... I have a cd autographed by Andy Rourke (L)

  • best band, they were destined to be,it no coincidence marr unearthed morissey,it was meant to be, for all humans with real emotions and for music in general,im 38 been listening my whole life to the smiths,i laugh i cry, they were the best,by a country mile...thank you smiths.

  • למי שלא הצליח לסיים...העיקר שניסיתם:)

  • @stupenka HI i completely agree with you .greetings from Buenos Aires .Argentina

    Hoorayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! The Smiths

  • @stupenka Shalom !!

  • @miguemoz shalom shalom

  • cool song !!!!

  • LOVE this song so much! Thanks for posting!

"Louder Than Bombs" is my all-time favorite CD.

  • I honestly can never look past the first album because not only does Johnny Marr do a little bit of everything with his guitar but Morrissey's lyrics seem to fit each riff more sublimely and are for the most part, his best lyrics ever by a long stretch.

I say this and the slow songs on their eponymous debut album are not to my taste, which expounds just how much I love the likes of Miserable Lie, What Difference Does It Make, I Don't Owe You Anything and You've got Everything Now.

  • Johnny Marr's a BEAST!

  • to be fair the first smiths album is a great place to start your journey

  • THE SMITHS ARE KNOWN BY THE TRAMP 8 WHEN THEY HEAR THE SMITHS THEY NO ITS THE 49 sick as MAFIOSOS MAN WHO WOULD EVER THINK THAT A GANGSTER FROM SC LOS ANGELES WOULD BE BANGING THIS SHIT THEM TRAMP 8 NO

  • what album is it in?

  • @TAx2XD "Strangeways, Here We Come"

  • @AntjaDec

and do you recomend this album? i mean.. i wanna buy one of their albums, what do u think is their best?

  • @TAx2XD Well I recommend every Smiths' album, but if you only plan to buy one, I suggest you to get "The Queen Is Dead" or "Meat Is Murder" which is my personal fav. :)

  • @AntjaDec thanks :)

  • @AntjaDec well I just brought Strangeways Here We Come from Play, I think I owe it to the system after listening to Stop Me several hundred times this week. Love that song...

  • Comment removed

  • @AntjaDec the Smiths self titled debut in my modest opinion is the best smiths album.

  • @AntjaDec The Queen is Dead is for the casual listener.

Meat is Murder is for the obsessing fans.

  • @Slapbass13 I'd say their debut is more for the obsessive fans. :P

  • @AntjaDec

Indeed. Or Rank. That being said, each individual member of the band has called "Strangeways" their strongest work. My fav too. As for a first listen, Louder Than Bombs or The Queen is Dead. The former be the best display of their diversity, the latter being the one everyone knows

  • @TAx2XD Queen is Dead is the universal masterpiece, I love strangeways but maybe a little leftfield. Tbh you're in for a winner with any album, though the debut self titled while excellent has one or two tracks not a fan of and the production is abominable sadly

  • @Tiresias42 well ok, thanks! u helped a lot! :))

  • @TAx2XD

As far as Best Smiths Albums:

I started with _Louder Than Bombs_because it had a little of everything.

Then I bought _The Smiths_ because it was the most even--Johnny's guitar work didn't overshadow Morrissey's lyrics and vice-versa.

Then I bought _The Queen Is Dead_ because it is regarded as their best, though I think it's overwhelmed by Morrissey's dourness and it ignores Johnny's jangle pop.

Then I bought _Meat is Murder_, which will always be my fav--so funky yet touching. Perfect

  • @TAx2XD I would say Strangeways is their best

  • @TAx2XD don't hesistate and there's so much more

  • @TAx2XD also, get louder than bombs, HIGHLY RECOMMEDED!

  • @TAx2XD Steady on. Memories in play. Know.

  • @TAx2XD I'd recommend Louder than Bombs. It's full of classics, and lesser-knowns.

  • @TAx2XD I'd go with Strangeways Here We Come. Great record.

  • @TAx2XD I'd recommend 'Hatful of Hollow' too. It's mainly made up of Peel Sessions and was the first Smiths album I bought back in the eighties. It's still right up there :) But whichever album you choose (or chose if you've bought one) I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • @TAx2XD Start with "Singles" to get an overview, then go for "Hatful of Hollow", then "Queen is Dead" - Hatful of Hollow was my first, Queen is dead is my favourite.

  • @AntjaDec its a prison in manchester, is that right?

  • @COMMUNISTPHILOSOPHY On behalf of AntjaDec, yep it is. :-)

  • @TAx2XD The Best of Album contains everything you could ever want, including all the No.1's and fans/concert favourites. Strageways, Here We Come is great, but some of the tracks are now dated

  • @TAx2XD This is the BEST from The Smiths!!

  • thank you antjadec ! don't worry , you made your job ! you 're one of us !

  • one of the best songs.

  • lets go!!

  • Thanks for posting .

  • nice song,greetings from Serbia

  • Arrrrgghh that's what tradition means!

  • Great song

  • Thanks for creating this amazing video -- now I can hear one of my fave tunes of all times (SMITHS 4EVER!) and watch a lovely visual history of Smiths memories. RIGHT ON! YOU ROCK!! Again, many thanks!!! xoxoxo

  • @aninham I love that...

  • Eighteen months hard labour seems fair enough.

  • para Gordon por que te quero.

  • The Smiths, hair brushed and parted, I salue you. xx

  • Havent heard this AMAZING song in ages.

This is my fav album too.

    <333333333

  • thanks so much for posting<3 such a good song/album, and awesome pics too<3. i'm enjoying this a lot :D

  • 'Hair brushed and parted' <3

  • I started something

And now I'm not too sure ,typical me

  • Typical me too.. hehe

  • A video was actually made for this song.. I remember watching it. There was Morrissey combing his hair and kids riding bikes in some British suburbs.

  • yep, there is a video, but youtube removed the real audio and swapped it with there is a light, if I remember correctly..

  • well, that was originally shot as the video for Stop Me actually I think.

  • yes, but Youtube removed the original audio I think.

  • @Biopharmer A video was never shot for "Stop me..."

The video with all the Morrissey lookalikes was for this song. That video was later re-edited for "Stop me..." But not by youtube

  • I think the video you are talking about is for "stop me if you think you've heard..."

I think originally had planned to release this song instead of "stop me" but due to some murders or something in the headlines made it seem too controversial at the time.... but i started something was to be a single, but wasn't.

  • LOVE !!

  • Holy shit, Johnny Marr has never looked cooler than he does at :58

  • A lot of great pictures of Morrissey and Johnny Marr together!!!

  • Hey Mate, I congratulate you on this !!

Great selection of pictures and turns out is a great video you made yourself!

are you keen on the smiths?

    regards.

  • Why, sure, I love them :)

  • So how do you create your own videos?

    Any special programmes needed?

and are they available as free downloads?

want to do a few myself!

  • Windows Movie Maker, if you're using Windows you should already have this programme :)

Of course there are better available I'm sure, but for starters Movie Maker is pretty good :)

  • i agree with joonsy,i would like to say to zluggo that morrissey is a legend and wrote the best lyrics ever produced

  • to be honest mate you dont have to be able to ''rock out'' to a song for it to be good, and you have to appreciate the music atleast, morrissey writes about life and life isnt always good!

  • @blade4life123 Well said!! I totally agree! I mean he wrote about the children who were murdered in the Moors- that's about life, because it happens a lot. It's obviously not good, but he writes about it because no one else will.

  • rock out? how old are you?

  • Why do you always come back here and add your yet another cool comment when no one has even replied to you? No one cares what you have to say, you said you hate The Smiths and Morrissey, we got it, it's your opinion and you let us know. You can leave now.

  • Go listen to your Sex Pistols and be happy. :)

  • Who said you're stupid? Getting 'it' and liking something are two different things. Why do you keep inventing stuff...

The fact that you ask "get WHAT?" proves that there's no point trying to explain. :-)
