@wesmatron Come on didn't you get the Spinal Tap reference where Nigel points at a guitar then tells the interviewer to not even look at it because the value may go down. The one with the price tags still on it you know. I really think this is a Spinal tap reference.
I love Steve's music and my Telecaster, but where did he get that the Telecaster came before phones and TV? The Telecaster was originally called the Broadcaster and it was first distributed nationwide in 1950. The first TV was in 1928 and they were in many US homes by the late 1940's. Bell invented the telephone in 1876 for goodness sake! Maybe England was a bit behind the times, but not by that much! Leo actually named it to capitalize on the popularity of broadCAST TELEvision.
HAHAHAHA, oh the intro :p THe pose, the hair, the pants.. and the fact that he says "over a 155 guitars".. I think, I THINK!!!! Over a 150 would've sounded better :p
@MrCicciodesellero He didn't buy "millions" of guitars, he said he had 150. Since he is a musician, those are his tools of the trade. BTW Steve has donated lots of money to charities and performed at several benefit concerts
Steve Howe is an incredible talent, musically. But he is the goofiest looking motherfucker I've ever seen when playing the guitar. But I still love the music!
Bad intro... splayed all out in his tight orange (or should I say peach?) colored pants... excuse me while I scrub my eyes... Hats off to Steve though!!
@nickcg He said "it's Gibson's telecaster" meaning that he was comparing it to the telecaster in terms of the simpleness of the les paul jr. hence when he said "just plug it in and play"
I met Steve at a Meet and Greet, along with Squire, after a House of Blues show. I was in awe to meet these guys, but Steve wouldn't even speak to us. Totally aloof. I said "I really enjoyed your show." He looked off and ignored me. BUT, I'm not worthy-- he's a legend, so I can accept it. But I still thought it was disappointing. Chris Squire was the same. Again, though-- they still top my list.
@4eyed4stringer :: i met Steve in Nashville, and he was very gracious..even put his initials on my ES175 ( under the pickguard) after my wife assured him that there was NO WAY i would ever part with it...he was concerned about eBay...
he doesn't shake people's hands, for health reasons, and to protect his livelihood from someone who might get carried away and damage those artful hands...
@dyhanendra I think I must have. They warned us to not shake Steve's hand, so we did not attempt. Everyone was on best behavior. BUT, he and Squire seemed to be very unhappy that night. Idiots were getting up and down during the show buying beer (front row people!) DURING songs, and Howe was evil-eyeing them. Sqtuire was cussing someone out on his Blackberry during the meet n greet. It was not a good time to meet them. I'll try next time, though.
@MrDunkJunk there's a very nice hard-cover book about his guitars...The Steve Howe Collection ( oddly enough ) that shows a lot of them, though maybe not all...
Michael Angelo should learn from this "Dick" -to play guitar without wanking over music. Michael Angelo is a masturbator of the guitar and belongs with you in your parents basement on top of the hairspray from which he came from.
2.09 the reason the Danelectro looks 'burnt' is that Steve and his roadie tried to convert this guitar and another into a twin-neck! Didn't work, obviously..
No, that's where the guitar attached to his swiveling guitar stand in the 70's when he had 3 guitars bolted to an armed pole so he could play different one's for different sections in a song.
how do people like this stop their strings going rusty with so many guitars? i got 5 that i play regularly and it drives me mad. perhaps wiping them down after every use?
I would think the very fact that they have so many means they don't get to play them so often. The less you play them, the less finger grime and sweat gets on the strings, the slower they will corrode. They will over time of course, but if you keep them in hard cases like that, the environment is pretty dry and stable, hence shiny strings. Wiping them will help, like you say. Have you tried coated strings?
the second guitar he shows, the dan electro, is the same type jimmy page use to favor when he was doing electric slide work (in my time of dying, etc.).
Mr. Tambourine Man. (written by Bob Dylan) He played that because it bacame the signature sound of "The Birds" that Roger McGuinn made famous with his Rickenbacker....whick in turn influenced Tom Petty, a big gan of McGuinn's.
I'm curious.. at around 2:03 he talks about something on his guitar that "Yes fanatics would have to search about". What is that? Seems like a dark circle on the guitar, but the quality's pretty bad..... Anyone got any idea??
