<---KU fan... Duke was heads and shoulders the best team in the country. People love the word "CHOKE." Guess what, people that use that word unless the situation is VERY specific...are morons. KU CHOKED at the free throw line in the 2003 title game vs. Syracuse...I agree. KU CHOKED against Arizona in 1997...I disagree, that game hurt...it was one of the best Kansas' teams ever. But Arizona was underrated and went on to win the National Title.
I'm sorry, how is this a choke by Roy? That Duke team was incredible, had been to four straight Final Fours, had just beaten UNLV, and were winning the whole game?
The folks in Durham knew sooner or later the Duke Blue Devils would win the Big One, and in '91 they did, and they can thank his players and the alumni for making it possible.
I can't believe how much better this Duke team was in 91 then 90
UNLV was the best team in the Nation that year (34-0) and Duke frustrated them and kept the Runnin' Rebels in a half court game (they were a quick up tempo team) to stun them..tells you how important Grant Hill was to this team
from a dec. 26, 1990 article in the Phoenix New Times about UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, at the time he was coaching Augmon, Johnson, Hunt, and Anthony:
"The Times, while referring to Nevada-Las Vegas as the country's No. 1 team, reminded us that Coach Jerry Tarkanian was an outlaw with a bulging dossier of recruiting and illegal payment problems. Tarkanian is the Prince of Darkness, the Saddam Hussein of the Far West."
your MOTHER'S a moron! get your facts straight, fag!
@dukenthaylor that is why we won and you lost...then the opposite...because Jerry Tarkanian finally got enough support from its alumni. Choose all the best people...and played better than any other team last century. The next year Duke paid more so UNLV threw the game. Does the word HYPOCRACY mean anything to you?
duke always benefited from being the medias team. they wanted Laettner to be the next Larry Bird. he was dirty but always got away with it. there would not even be a discussion if he was thrown out of the 92 east regional like he should have been, you people need to check the facts. true hurley was sick in 90 but they got blown out by thirty.
What Laettner did in the '92 regional final didn't warrant an ejection. If you watch what Aubrey Coleman did on Chase Budinger earlier this season, that is what warrants an ejection and he got the ejection.
A tap on the chest doesn't warrant an ejection. If he took a step on his chest then possibly, but he just tapped it.
This was no Roy Williams choke job, this team was not expected to be that great, this is one of Roy's best coaching jobs ever. His chokes came later with the likes of Paul Pierce, LaFrentz, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, and all those loaded teams.
The funny thing about this game is at half time they did a special about the '65-66 Texas Western miners who were the first team to win a championship using nothing but black players. They beat Kentucky 72-65, the same score of this game. Creepy aint it?
UNLV looked like they were trying that game. That's just a myth. Give Duke their credit. This was there first championship and it was well deserved especially after final four/championship losses in 86, 88, 89, and 90.
It was actually a miracle that KU got to the champ game at all, that team had like no McDonald's all amercians, was expected to finish at the bottom of the big 8, etc. Definitely one of Roy Williams best coach jobs
No need to hate on Roy. UNC alums Larry Brown and Roy Williams saved KU from disappearing into obscurity. Tell me you're grateful for UNC's contributions to KU and I'll tell you I'm grateful for KU alum Dean Smith.
KU is the one who saved UNC from disappearing because we gave you the dean and Roy. How did we almost have basketball obscurity when we won the title the year before Roy came.
I said Larry Brown AND Roy Williams saved you from obscurity. You do realize Larry Brown is from UNC, right? Before Larry Brown, KU was sitting on 1 title from 1952. And by the way, KU didn't "give" UNC Roy. UNC loaned KU Roy, and later he went back home. Like I said earlier, thank you for Dean Smith, though.
Nope KU was going to hire Dean Smith to be the coach after Brown left but because they named the building the Dean Dome he wouldn't leave. So he recommended Roy. After Roy's first KU/UNC coaching fiasco in 2000 Roy said "The next time we have one of these press conference's I'll be dying or retiring... sounds like a traitor to me!
What I can't believe right now is watching UNC tank this bad, I know there are injuries and not enough guard play. I didn't think it would be this tragic.
ol roy has plenty of chokes, but this isnt one of them. duke was simply better than ku in 91, and controlled the majority of the game.

I don't care what anyone says. This should of been UNLV winning this game not Duke. NCAA are racist towards them and fixed the game.

one word grant hill was the major difference.Plus greg anthony fouling out.If either of those were taken out of the equation.UNLV wins the title.

the 91 duke team had lots of faith, that's the reason why they cut the nets down.

The difference was grant hill. Unlv point guard anthony fouled out. They would of beat duke. Its hard do believe that was coach k's first title.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
UNLV was cheated out of the championship by the NCAA. They wanted Duke to win. It all goes back to Tark beating them in court.

whats the excuse for unlv beating duke the year before then in the final four by 30 points if the ncaa wanted duke to win then moron.

@sexualpervert
First of all, UNLV lost because Duke STUDENT-athletes put
a defensive karmic smackdown on an illegal "dream"-team!
LMAO!
Secondly, the NEWS article said NOTHING about alumni...
...while it QUOTED "illegal payment problems".
Do the words KARMA, FACTS, RELEVANCE, and IRONY
mean anything to YOU?
THEY REALLY SHOULD! ;)

duke payed more hahah you are retarded i guess 15 final fours and only winning 4 championships proves they pay more huh boy are you stupid.
