  • Txqomeric,

Yep, the Arkansas River in June is a rip roaring river. I was forced to sluice WAY up the bank. Really need to get deep with a dredge late in the Fall when the river is lowest, slowest. I always do better on Cache Creek working a dry gulch below the cemetery. Would love to dredge the Arkansas some day... Randy C-17A triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz

  • I actual found more gold in the Arkansas than I did at cache creek for the same length of time. Arkansas is dredge claim for sure. Lots of gold but extra fine. I didnt have highbanker just sluice box and pan. I figured out all the local guys dredge the river when its down and when its up they highbank cache creek. For any one going there there is a hotel, monarch moutain ski lodge that has insanely cheap rates in the summer. Like 28 dollars a night cheap..was great place to stay.

  • I was there in '09....3rd week June the spring run off is roaring then. I tried Yankee and rebel yell to didnt find any color. Found old trapping cabin to the south of the creek looked like maybe had been diggings on the south side creek of hill long time ago. I then also went to Arkansas at the very top north end of the claim where there was easier access. I double classified for about an hour out from behind boulder right on edge of river and got about a got about 1/10th a pennyweight.

  • Wildirishman21,

I'd love to dredge this river & GPAA claims here, but the darn BLM changed their ruling and now treat prospectors like commercial miners, and require a Plan of Operations, a bond, and red tape/cost to do nothing more than drive prospectors off their claims and end gold prospecting. Idiots & Eco-Nazis. :(

  • WOW What a RIVER! That looks amazing. What a place to run a dredge!

  • Flamingrecon42,

I plan to be in the Buena Vista area late 28 June - 6 July. Maybe you can find/find me up on Cache Creek some day during my annual trip out. Do you have a parent or older sibling that's into prospecting that can drive you around? Check out my web site & plz join my Forum there. Triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz Good luck prospecting! Randy C-17A

  • hey i live in that area maybe we can prospect this summer. im 13 by the way

  • Chris,

Yes, I am a C-17 guy long time. I was in the 17 AS at Charleston '96-'97, the 15 AS '97 - '99, school, 7 AS at McChord '00 - '03, 16 AS at Charleston '03-'04, 17 AS again '04-'07, then HQ AMC (flying with the 15 AS), school, and currently flying with the 300AS at Charleston, for currency. I hope to retire to Buena Vista, CO, in a few years. Then gold prospecting a LOT more than I cna do now. :) Randy

  • Randy....are you with a C-17 unit? I was at Charleston for 12 years...now in Denver enjoying the mountains and gold hunting myself...

    Chris

  • Hootsmeister,

You are welcome. I went back out in late August and the water was WAY down.....and so I prospected around a little further up from the railroad bridge and did find some tiny specks & micro flakes. Think one really needs a dredge to get deep and suck up the material from between the rocks. Me & my sluice just didn't get much for 3 1/2 hours or so. Did better on Cache Creek. Randy C-17A
