generation of haters? pull that card for a millionth time why dontcha, if you are in the 30 percent that still thinks "Change" is coming your in sad shape, keep your "change", your gonna need it, unless your another one living off of my taxes, amazing how many peoples utilities in government housing I cut off now-a-days, guess they havent got the "change" they voted for either eh? ha!
Don't get me wrong,I like Jerry, I laugh at his jokes. He was a funny guy,but I like OUR President too. Remember this is america, where all things are equal, I thought. I guess america has a long way to go. Maybe the new generation will get it right. This generation of haters has to die off first, and maybe the next.
He says he never saw a redneck without a job. I'm sure glad he's no longer alive to see all the Rednecks that Obama has caused to loose their job. I'm one of them.
Hell, we need all the comedians we can get who don't have so much hate in their acts. I love Clower, Foxworthy, Justin Wilson, and anyone else who takes me away from my problems for as long as I can stand it.
"I've never seen a redneck that didn't have a job." -- Great humor makes you laugh and makes you think at the same time! From Shakespeare to Jerry Clower, the great comedy writers start with a profound understanding of and love for common people.
I'm seeing post getting all over Foxworthy, as if he was the first comedian to steal a joke. Anyone remember "Mr Television" Milton Burl, one of his bits is everyone saying he stole everybody's material. How about Henny Youngman "take my joke...please". Before Jerry there was a Cajun that told redneck jokes but used Cajun instead of redneck. Didn't I hear somewhere that imitation is the best form of flattery.
I am a busted up cowpuncher who sprang from Southern stock and yup, is's shore nuff good humor, gin - u - wine, huh?! Just good Bearcloud, purty work!
Well, I think foxworthy may have been inspired by clower, but to say he ripped him off is a little much. That's like saying nintendo ripped off atari for making a game console... clower originated redneck jokes, foxworthy just elaborated and updated.
You know .i like the blue collar gang, but Jerry Clower was the king and to me still is.Don't you know God is up in heaven bustin a gut now that Jerry is up there with him.
Proud to say that Jerry is from where my dad's side of the family lived for generations in Liberty, Mississippi. And yes, most people there would be considered rednecks but still salt of the earth type folks.
The late great master story teller, Jerry Clower kept it clean, fun and interesting and was a great comedian that will never be replaced--Miss you Jerry-make em' laugh up in Glory!!
gotta say that as far as "stealing" material goes,Justin Wilson was the first redneck comic (unless there was one before him),then Jerry Clower THEN Jeff Foxworthy. The stories have been around for years. I suspect we'll hear these stories again from some new comedian 20 years from now. And the stories are passed on down to the next generation.
Andy Griffith started doing comedy in the '50s. Remember "What it was, was football"? Many, many country comics were on the Grand Ole Opry before that.Seems Jerry's first album was released in 1971. Justin Wilson's first book in 1974.
@dangeloandthangs I don't remember Foxworthy ever saying "if you have a job you might be a redneck" or any other of the ones brother Clowers says here. Looks like Jeff just carried on where Jerry left off.
@southsideeastexas Yeah, but with no credit to Clower. He ACTS like he came up with the whole concept and built an "empire" out of it, WHOEVER said it.
@dangeloandthangs You have a different view of Jerry Clower than I do. I have been a fan of his since I was a teenager (59 now) and the way I understand Jerry, he wasn't into fame and fortune. He was a church going, word of God testifier. Well that's what he proclaimed years and years ago. When you talk about someone getting ripped off think of the Polocks, their jokes (the stole from morons) by Texas A&M Aggies. Some of those jokes even made it all the way to blonde, & congress
@southsideeastexas You're right. I know very little of Jerry Clower, but what little I know of his work, I like. I was saying what I was saying about Jeff Foxworthy. It seems to me that he took advantage, but I could be wrong :-).
@dangeloandthangs fuuny shit ...but lets be real the history of showbiz is one guy " ripping off " the other adapting it and calling it his own . clowers genius is how he tells the story so funny and how most of his stories are rooted to some extent in his life experiences!!
Jerry is a true master and I agree the funnier of the two. As for Foxworthy stealing, well, it's clear that Clower told his version first but part of southern storytelling is keeping the stories alive by retelling them and everyone puts their own spin on a tale. However, it would be nice for Foxworthy to make note of his inspiration in Jerry's memory.
I believe foxworthy has said in interviews that Clower was a big influence in his career. But yes, Clower is one of the great clean and funny (so hard to come by) speakers of all time.
No I think you may need to rethink this. As I just heard Jerry say he bought a book with 1,000 definitions of a redneck. So Jerry got some from the book and put his spin on them. But Jeff has been very open about his influence's and JERRY is number 1 on the list. But Jerry was and always will be very special to us ALL... I was lucky to get to see Jerry about 10 time's and he was 1 of a kind
Jerry Clower is the Man. i have grew up since i was 2 listening to records and cassette tapes my dad owns of him nd 14 years later im still listening to him. forget jeff foxworthy he can keep his lil 5th grader thing nd move completly out of blue collar all together
I can think of two Clower stories that have a very mildly blue punchline: "Steel Marbles" ("HOT STEEL BALLS!"), and "A New Bull" ("I just wanna make for sure that he knows that I'M a bull!"). But never a curse word, or anything you couldn't listen to with your grandma. In fact, it was my grandpa's Jerry Clower records that I listened to the most!
Uncle Jerry had a story for everything, that is the mark of a good Redneck.

a town kid who found out he could make
money talking and ACTING like a
