I actually used a modified version of the Cornell Method. I would read the textbook and record my notes on the left side of the paper. Then while taking notes in the class, I would write notes from the lecture on the right side of the paper. By doing this, I was able to synthesize notes from both the textbook and lecture in one area. This was especially helpful in preparing for the exams.
