These guys have gotten better with every album. Judgement Day is by far their best. More crunch in the guitars and more punch in the drums and bass. Still very techincal without loosing sight of the melody.
since when halford is a power metal singe???r I always belive that judas priest was a heavy metal band beside that great album redemption its great an I hope they keep making great music for many years
This is likely the most talented band I've come across in my search for great music. The complexity is fantastic, and skill just oozes out with every phrase. I've never been so satisfied with an album purchase before.
That being said, I wish the absolute best for Nick. I also hope things bode well for his daughter, Parker, and her eye ailment.
They're one of the best, but I wouldn't say THE best... dunno if any one band fits that description; there's equally great bands in different styles of music. Some that at least nearly equal Redemption: Pain of Salvation (you'll likely enjoy their songs much more if you read/know the lyrics to their songs while you're listening to them, more so than with any other band), BTBAM, Opeth, Meshuggah, Russian Circles, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Maserati, toe, Protest the Hero, Riverside, Nile...
That said, they are still among the best. But what's the fun in saying a band is THE best? Thinking there's no room for improvement, even when it's difficult to see how a band could possibly improve (as is the case here - although I'd love another epic like Sapphire), isn't the most optimistic way to go about it.
@WatcherofTrends I agree 100%. I just discovered thisw band recently and they are top shelf al the way. There are some killer songs on this CD. They remind me of Vanden Plas a little bit, but I may like Redemption even more than I do VP.
@WatcherofTrends This album is ridiculously incredible, but even so there's one recent album that I like even more.... "Mercy Falls" by Seventh Wonder. If you haven't heard it, check it out... divine.
I just heard that Nick Van Dyk was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a particularly bad form of blood cancer which is generally considered incurable and which has a five-year survival rate of 34%.
It shocked me so much! I really wish him the best!
... What? I'm sorry, but I can name more than 20 prog metal singers with more power metalish voices than Ray Alder. Ray Alder doesn't sound like a power metal singer at all.
As I said, there's a fine line between these vocals and power metal. Ignoring the fact there's no Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson style high notes, it sounds like any power metal band I've ever heard.
I'm the fan of progressive rock/metal music. tho, i can listen any hard & soft music as well...
If i've been asked to name 5 favorite bands, my list would be: MindFlow (brazilian prog-metal), Redemption (:-), Pain Of Salvation (swedish prog-metal), Threshold (UK prog-metal), Seventh Wonder (swedish prog-metal).
So, in my humble opinion "Snowfall" is the best album of this year so far 4sure cause i listened every prog-metal work that appeared in 2009 and there is nowhere near Redemption's.
It's just an amazing stuff - it combines all best that was in previous works and so much new - for example, "Black and White World" and "Love Kills Us All / Life In One Day" are totally the unique ones - nothing ever similar was done on my memory. The masterpiece longlpays that changes the listener mood many times during the song & gifting various mindcrashing emotions.
Once my mother herd your music & said that it's too depressive for her. It was "Memory" from "The Origins Of Ruin" =)) But few days ago i introduced her your new songs (Walls, What Will You Say & Love Kills Us All / Life In On day) and she liked it very much, she said that it's not so depressive as it was in the past & much more diversified now. She have a good music taste ;-))
The lyrics are just genius as well... well, i'm already posting the text from them in my facebook & icq statuses =)))
I am going to upload the entire album on my account. You can watch them if you choose to. If you want, you can also check my amvs out as well. Hoping to use Redemption in an amv but I need a great anime to do so.
How can you state that you getting the new album from Redemption is a lighter note and criticize me about it and wanting to put it out on youtube for people to discover the band or listen to the album? Last I checked, this album is slated for a October 6th release date, which wasn't the day you got the album. Very hypocritical to say I am a majority of what is wrong with the music industry. I have the actual album as a gift from a friend who obtained it early. Don't know your reason.
In the UK it was released on the 27th of September. I'm not a pirate.
I can appreciate uploading, one, maybe two songs onto youtube but 'entire album' as you put it is absurd, as I know for a fact so many people won't bother buying the album, they'll just rip it straight from youtube, especially with the HQ button the sound quality is hardly hindered at all.
I can understand you're not trying to feed piracy but you gotta see where I am coming from man.
But a majority of people that listen to the underground artists with great talent don't often get their music through download, unless its really underground and found only on youtube. A majority of music taken by downloading is mainstream. I have to buy my albums online though because Houston is not quite a metal scene. Hell, Outworld and Scale the Summit aren't even known here in Houston and its where they are from too.
I see where you're coming from and I apologize, I was quite harsh, but at the same time, why should other people be able to stream whole albums for free whilst the rest of us pay?
I'm not going to lie,if it wasn't for youtube I wouldn't have bought many of the albums I have within the last few years,I like checking out a couple of songs before buying an album; but I wouldnt appreciate it if people were uploading my whole album to the internet for free even if the royalties from it were fuck all.
Love Kills us All - Life in One Day - OMG, i don't believe that this is a song! It's more like a pure narcotic with head crashing effect! I have an multieargasm every time I listen to it and i hardy can keep my tears! WTF is that?!?
About twenty minutes ago, I heard "Scarred" from The Fullness of Time. That track was all it took to convince me that these guys are the height of the modern prog scene. I'm officially a convert as of now and I can't wait for this album.
I wonder! I´m working for the Century Media street force... and the last stuff i received includet the wohle album... about ten cd´s! It´s for promotion only! So it´s free?!
Congratulations from a brazilian fan, Nick. Really a shame that few people know Redemption in Brazil - I hope you come over one day so we can see you live!
Can't fuckin wait for this! Ray Alder has helped me through alot in life through his lyrics and the bands he has been in have all effected me in some type of way!
Wow. This will be a fantastic release. Can't wait for Sept. to get here. Wish you guys the very best of luck with the new album. You definitely have me hooked on your music since Fullness of Time. Peace!
Nick, your music has seriously touched my soul. I've sung your songs to celebrate, listened and wept, and everything in between. "Emotionally powerful" progressive metal indeed!
