Bob marley agreeing to do a concert were two political leaders from jamaica at the time didnt go down well either i think because (PPP) Marcus Garvey's party were not invited. Marcus Garvey was very popular with the poor community, especially in trench town. i believe thats were the lyric "who sold out marcus" comes from
I agree comoradh, i heard it was because marley was discovered by lee perry "the upsetter" singing with acoustic guitar and lee produced the reggae, rocksteady, dub pretty much everything. they were also making music with peter tosh, bunny wailer. from what i understand bob went solo "selling out" i s'pose, lee was a true yardie rasta and didnt believe in the extortion of making a lot of money through music. this is a form of babylon to him.
This music business is so contradictory. What you think you know don't always go so.The Truth can destroy you.(plummet your sales) Those that depend on record sales can't afford truth
and those that come near truth seem to end up with a bullet in the head.
Max Romeo & Bunny Wailer did not have white belly's, and Chris "Wite well" was not imitating a Rasta. Think the unthinkable.
I think it's more likely to be about Bunny because Bunny was in the same business as other reggae studios, and recorded a lot of reggae artists. But hey, only Scratch really knows, and in any case he left this episode behind him long ago.

@donquixote2u: It was possibly aimed at Bunny Lee or Max Romeo... this song was originally wrote for Max Romeo to sing it.
