Lead Fumes are a myth, you have to BOIL lead to generate true lead fumes. At the same time when you heat up anything lead or otherwise you probably dont want to breath the impurities or oils burning off as you heat it up.

you guys should really be wearing masks...
lead fumes are really bad!
But great idea on pre-heating the mold first to avoid thermal shock!
