The reason you didnt see 'Hello' is because there is no actual word for it in the Somali language because they are all muslims and instead adopted the muslim/arabic phrase of greeting 'Assalaamu alaikum'
Yea I agree but these phrases where all summed up by a guy who just took words that have to do with piracy or fighting which is still going on in Somalia sadly. I found out that Somalis usually use the word "nabadeey" which I think means "peace upon you" or just "peace".
That makes sense really. I didn't see anywhere on the site that it said it was for piracy situations, but that's the main reason I thought it was hilarious.
You look for phrases in the Somali language and all you get is this.
that'd be like looking for American phrases and all you get is "Can you make that a large?", "Extra ketchup, please", "Hey! Taxi!", "You're fired!" and "Lawyers are douchebags."
There arent many sites where you can learn Somali even tho there is such a large diaspora but here in Sweden there is a translation site for Somali-Swedish and several other languages that immigrants speak such as Kurdish, Arabic, Albanian, Amharic and more. There is also Linguistic University of Qaran where you learn normal sentences in the daily life and basic words that I found.
ROTFLMFAO!!!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL I SWEAR TO GODDD I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED THAT HARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! dude you AWESOME and rock on post some more funny videos..............p.s. ur cute :p
The guy you showed with the orange scarf is NOT Somali, he looks like a African American guy dressed as a terrorist. You obviously do not know what we look like so what you need to do is get your facts straight. Us Somalis do not generally call ourselves black. Thank you.
@theboredone The point is you really are disrespecting Somalis, if you have never seen one before and would believe the guy in the orange scarf was Somali, you clearly have no idea what who the Somalis are. So what is the point of showing Somalis in this horrible light. Thank you.
@MegaPassionfashion Type in "Somali Pirate" into google images. The very first picture is still of the guy in the red scarf. Click the link.
It is a news article.
Its story from 2009.
It is an article about Somali pirates
It begins:
"Pirates operating off the coast of Somalia are being controlled by crime syndicates, including foreigners lured by the multi-million-dollar ransoms, Interpol and other officials said on Wednesday."
This video is about the strange choice in phrases to be translated.
It shouldn't hurt your feelings because this could be about any language. The joke is that the sentences they're using to translate into Somali are weird. Has nothing to do with Somalians.
And besides, there truly are(/were) Somali pirates in the news... so talking about a fact shouldn't be taken offensively.
Either way, sorry to offend you. You need a thicker skin though, if you're going to be using the internet.
long time ago, I had emailed CapN Slappy and Chumbucket that Somali phrases should be included in their website. I'm glad that you too think that Talk Like a Pirate Day should include Somali pirates!

Ah that's pretty interesting, but still... some basic greeting would've been more helpful than some of those odd phrases.
