  • Wow!Amazin riff you have in this very fine song!

  • Great music. Love it. You have nice and tight band sound.

  • Hi,Great Sounds!

I heard you can use the Roland GR55 Guitar Synth with Piezo Pick ups, does that mean you could use the Line 6 Variax guitar with the GR55 without needing to fit the additional Roland Pick Up? (... and then in theory being able to add that additional pickup to a spare guitar?) ...interested in getting one of each.

    Thanks!

  • @drdamski Howdy. You cant use a Variax (by itself) to drive a GR55 as there is no '13 pin' output for the piezo's. You can however do as I did and put a GK pickup (see video) on a variax to drive a GR55/VG99, and I actually recommend using a GK pickup over piezo's as piezos can cause problems with the 'Cosm' Guitar Modelling features in the gr55 and vg99. This is due to the lack of a high pass filtered input on the Roland devices. The combination of JTV and GR55 is amazing. Good Luck!

  • cool thanks for the info......i was wondering also...are you using alternate or drop tunings on the "Steam Theory"song it sounds this way but i can figure out how to access the alternate tunings on the Gr-55

  • @pv5150man Yes im using an alternate tuning for this song (Bb F D F Bb F). To get to the alternate tuning settings in the gr55, click Edit for your patch. Page twice to the right to get to the "Master" tab. Then click the right arrow key next to the spin wheel twice to highlight "Other". Click enter. Now use the down arrow key to highlight "Alt-Tuning" and change this to "On". Use a preset tuning under "Type" or create your own using "Custom" and the User Shift settings per string listed below.

  • WOW!!!!!!! i was totally amazed man! Nice progressive rock. I wish i had half the creativity and style you do. I too just aquired a GR-55, but im only able to run in a Mustang 3 amp at the moment. im hoping i can bypass when needed. Any suggestions?

  • @pv5150man Thanks for the kind remarks!

Unfortunately, Im unfamiliar with the capabilities of the Mustang 3. Many folks who use modellers/guitar synths bypass the preamp of their guitar amp with the 'four cable method' to get better results, so this may be possible for you if the amp has an effects loop.

Ive found a true FRFR amp is much better for modellers/guitar synths, hence why I went with a keyboard amp (Traynor K4). I let the modeller do all the tonal shaping.

  • @steamtheory Sounds silly but can you tell me what hookup i should use Guitar out or Left out (mono) to hook up to an amp. There is very little guidance on this

  • Cheers - I too look forward to using my GR-55 on stage. Awesome gear & that's quite the nice tune as mentioned by @andreschamat

  • Nice tune! Congrats!
