can i be honest by saying to people this guy is obviously trying to do nothing but sell something to you. It is quite evident in his speaking that he is reading off a piece of paper. If you truly want to get better read hogans five fundamentals to the modern golf swing and learn how to play golf from there. If you havent noticed hogan has the best swing in the world to me and i think that if everybody took to heart what he says in his books you can swing like him too!!!
a pull would result from a closed clubface, and an onplane swing, and a hook would result from hitting inside out on a ball, with too much wrist release. if you lead with your hips. your not going to swing inside out. you'll swing outside in, putting sidespin on the ball creating a slice.
no, you need to start your downswing with your arms, not by opening up your hips. did you start your backswing with your hips wide open? lets hope not. so why would you open them up in the downswing? ideally your club should return on the exact same plane it left on . if your hips move before your arms they open up your hips and ultimately your shoulders, creating a slice. watch purepoint golf video on timing.
you should be leading with your arms, not your hips. you lead with your arms and rotate your hips in sync with your arms for proper timing. if you start with your hips, your arms stay behind and produce an outside to inside swing path generally creating a slice.
if you lead with your arms, you are more likely to produce a pull or pull hook. You have to start the swing with your hips and then let your arms follow.
it's very hard to learn anything by just listening. why don't you show us?? I am sure what you say make sense but this is not the way to teach golf....
You don't "fire" the hips; you simply start the swing by rotating the hips at a relatively slow speed with "dead" arms. This automates the swing, more or less and allows the physics of whip-action to work. Look into the Paul Wilson technique; it makes good sense.
Just like I said. It happens. But pro golfers don't consciously go hips first. I don't need to look into techniques. I've been teaching golf for many years and telling someone to initiate with their hips is like telling someone to throw a baseball while leading with their elbow towards the target. IT HAPPENS, but it's automatic and if a beginner begins with hips consciously as a first move they are forcing nature and it will mess them up.
I don't see hip rotation "just happening." As for pro golfers not consciously going hips first, you may have heard of the "hide your left pocket" swing thought to induce rotation and prevent swaying. I've seen videos of pros commenting on it as a swing thought. I'm not trying to be contentious; I just think a lot of golf teaching never fully explains the correct sequencing of the motion. Anyway, as for throwing a ball...of course you don't lead with the elbow, you lead with the HIPS.
@ijinokm You're right. If someone were to just "fire the hips" as soon as the hands reached the top (before the elbows have started to establish their downward path) the tendency is for the hips to slide out in the direction opposite the side of the body the arms are on & the upper body falls away. Hogan called them "hip-spinners". Look at all the YouTube slo-mo, down-the-line views of pros; elbows drop first then hips fire, or else elbows/hips simultaneously. None with the hip-turn first.
Yup. Invariably in a great player's swing--even in Hogan's, who said that he started his downswing with a twist of the hips counterclockwise--there is a slight but noticeable shift down the line or even slightly to the right of the target (for a RH player), which moves the axis to the front leg, before the lion's share of the rotary motion of the hips.
@sulakleo it does or it is supose to do then after in sinc of cource the hands and uper body should.go see vid of shawn clement. will do you good

I disagree. A lateral hip motion is the first move on the downswing.

wouldn't be much easier if u just put an instructional video instead of a casette?

OK but how about the role of the hips being consciously controlled in the backswing?

Hip turn is a myth. It happens but it's not a conscious move. The worst thing you can tell a new golfer if to fire the hips first.
