As much as I find the "visual" aspect unorthodox to watch, this production is still all the best voices in a single setting, especially Cesare and Sesto. I guess that scene with Tolomeo stretching in Act 3 (I think) can be forgiven.
The best Cesare ever! One of the very few countertenors who can handle well the fact that this role is rather low and thus asks for a lot of play with the register break. Gall does this in a perfectly charming manner. And what artistry, what musicality, what acting! Bravo! :)
JEFFREY GALL IS A GREAT SINGER,
and it is a pleasure to witness your artistry here.

This was a beautiful production, but the
camerawork was atrocious, thanks to the
director, Peter Sellers. It's unwatchable and a beautiful production absolutely
ruined. It was wonderful and made sense
watching it live. The cast, especially
Jeffrey Gall was outstanding. The young
"boy" was Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Mr.
Gall is now a baritone.

It's funny that I just had rehearsal with him a few hours ago, and now I get to hear this great performance of him on YouTube.
I'm really privileged to be one of Gall's students.

Gall's timbre is similar to that of most countertenors, but he seems to have better focus and "punch" than many. A performer to watch in the future.
