Cort Simmons Axe Bass

I wouldnt pay more than $200-$250 for that bass after seeing the specs on it, unless it was signed be Gene himself. BTW, the one he plays on stage isnt the same model. Here's a video of him giving an autographed one to a fan. "KISS Gene Simmons AXE bass backstage". If you listen close, he describes the model he's holding as being a neck-through body design. The one Cort sells is bolt on.

I've played an axe bass and it was super uncomfortable to play when it was sitting on your leg. But I guess that's kinda obvious lol

You have to keep in mind it is a $400 instrument. I have used a few. $100 for a new set of pickups (DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, EMG, Bartolini, etc) and it becomes a very nice sounding PJ bass. I don't consider this a good representation. It sounds like he has the Jazz pup way too high, the high mids are probably cranked on the amp and I doubt that Guitar center has bothered to set it up.

@markoctavio, I own one and sounds decent. Yes there are some faults, like neck dive and I am not a huge fan of MM pups. I plan on putting EMG pups in mine. Remember this is a youtube video so that could be contributing to it and or the equipment used to record to put it on here. Also how does he have the amp set? Different basses need different tweaking on the EQ. Don't bash it till you play one.

Probably the worst sounding bass I have ever heard, but it's at a Guitar Center so it's not really a fair test. With a proper set up and fresh strings that thing would sing.

No amount of money will ever make me get this bass. It doesn't seem to even carry low-end tone. But maybe that's because you had it set that way. I don't know, it seems like an overpriced, gimmicky bass.
