  • That isn't actually hartnell in that photo at the end is it? It certainly looks awfully close...

  • Definitely my favorite, then Tom Baker.

  • jon's my favorite dr who

  • Jon Pertwee was the quintessential doctor .......... a complete brainiac , man of action , gentleman scholar , ladies man and man's man ...................... SILVER FOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... and my other favourite is William Hartnell quizzical , Einsteinesque yet eccentric English grandfather all rolled into one ...................... althought the purists may hate it i DO love Tennant too ...... i definately wOULD let him into MY Tardis .......

  • Every time he says "I am.. The Doctor!" a shiver of excitement runs down my spine :D

  • "Jon Pertwee Sings The Doctor"

Sure... Jon Pertwee "sings". Same way that William Shatner "sings".

  • I sing like him too lol

  • Fan opinion or not, I think it's a statistical fact that Christopher Eccleston was, simply, one of the very best Doctors we've ever had. The star that burns the brightest, and all that... ;)

  • To imullen93 unfortunately I hear his voice and immediately think of Wurzel Gummage.

  • Best Doctor ever!!!

  • The 5 dislikes are Tennant fans who won't stop crying about him leaving.

  • The Best Doctor Ever! Love and Miss U Jon

  • so is this the first rap song ever?

  • @MrWooaa I am not sure how old rap is, but this sure is rap . . . albeit very slow rap . . .

  • His voice is like melted chocolate.

  • Know me, for I am the DOCTAH!

  • How can Jon Pertwee not be the greatest? He has such a great voice too.

  • I cant get enough of this!

  • ok maybe not the eighties, I can't quite put my finger on it

  • the music sounds a lot lik e the later music of the eighties, perhaps this music is where that comes from?

  • up to :34 would have been a good, short, start for the show.

  • i know its random but david tennant is in this is jinsy and he is just so weird i think now matt smith is better

  • Pertwee was like the James Bond of the Docotr's incarnations.

so...is this Dr who fandoms answer tot he song William Shatner did

  • 5 peoples faith is not before their mind.

  • @Nacho2333

Actually, youw ouldn't want your faith before your mind. That would mean you do what your faith says whereas your mind might say you should do otherwise. So you should be saying "5 peoples' faiths are before their minds."

  • Jon Pertwee is the perfect Doctor to do this song :) He's epic

  • cool dude, i love all doctors except for the curly blond haired one-dont even bother to watch those eps-his outfit is too much like a clowns and CLOWNS SCARE ME!!!!:|

  • pertwee/baker are my DR,S .but geting in to the new wipper snapper,s .smith not bad

  • Is there somewhere to buy this song--with the lyrics?

  • @musicluvr1974 you can use the youtube downloader and get it download and find a programme that will rip the mp3 of it, I've just googled "I am the Doctor - Jon Perwee" they are out there but I can't put the url here as Youtube blocks it. I found them on a site called madmusicarchive hope that helps

  • Once again I leave this video to roll on and more great comments, it makes me proud that I made it and I was a mere video noob in those days. Thank you all may the stars take you to your next regeneration .... in a nice way :)

  • @Cee1003 nice to think of one of the best doctors as a sorta sing er.

    JP FTW!!!

  • Anyone who says Matt Smith is the best Doctor are the "Whovians" who call the Doctor "Doctor Who." They are the "Whovians" who think that stupid intro (on BBCA at least) is needed. "I'm Amy Pond and I have an imaginary friend but he is real and he as a big box that travels in space!" Thanks Amy, for wasting 30 seconds of my life with unneeded info. I love Matt Smith, do not get me wrong is very good. But he is not comparable to Baker, Pertwee, Davison, and Tennant. Smith is justt too new.

  • @stickorstank i agree 100%

  • @stickorstank Actually, I find he is much better than Tennant and Davison. I've been a fan since before I could walk, and I just find that Matt Smith does it so well. Of course, a large part of that is the writing (One of the things that prevented Peter Davison and Colin Baker from really shining in the role), but Matt Smith seems to have a pretty good handle on the character. He's old, he's weird, and he sees nothing wrong with the way he behaves, but at the same time he knows it's not normal.

  • It's funny how now everybody loves Doctor Who, I'm glad people are finally seeing how great it is. I've been watching since the early eighties. I'd stay up late and watch on pbs after everybody else was asleep!

  • Davison will always be my Doctor. <3

  • Comment removed

  • Sadly Troughton is my favorite. Sad because he has the fewest available, I know some made fewer but you know what I mean.

  • I'm so glad he didn't sing, the description said 'song' so I was a bit nervous. He was the Doctor I first saw, often literally from behind the sofa. I wasn't quite behind the setee listening to this- but it's pretty obvious why it wasn't a hit. . .

  • Oh, I love this to the point of absurdity.

  • god this is epic

  • I tend to have favorites in both the classic and new series. David Tennatt in the new series but in the classic show it's a toss up between Jon, Tom And Peter Davidson. I grew up watching them on vhs and the PBS reruns.

  • He told the BBC, that he would only do one series. Where was the commitment?

Surely, If the BBC new this, they should have either extended the contract, or better still, go see Paul McGann. In my view a fantastic Doctor, who is popular with the fans, and who signed on a six year contract in america. Eccleston has stated that he would never return to something he has already done. So there goes any chance of a regeneration, and we are left with the black mark of his leather jacket forever! :(

  • @Caredroia Yes I was amazed at his lack of enthusiasm for the role when I saw him interviewed too, a total let down to the character, he would have been better as The Master at least for one story then hand it to the brilliant John Simm who has done such a brilliant job there too! I think Chris Eccleston only wanted to use the role as a stepping stone to holywood where he fell flat on his face or should I say disappeared into thin air on Heroes ha ha

  • @Cee1003 what did you expect from him, he was a Trekkie

  • @Cee1003 Not at all. In his own words, "I was open-minded but I decided after my experience on the first series that I didn't want to do any more. I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in. I wasn't comfortable. I thought, 'If I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong." He's implied some of those in charge bullied some of those lower down.

  • @Cee1003

*ahem* and he was in GI Joe. and a few other US related attempts. it just baffles me how someone could be the Doctor and wasnt a fan of the role/show before hand. I mean it makes sense for the first few, but as the show became a cult classic (both in the UK and US), theres no real excuse.

  • @Caredroia Actually the BBC only offered the one year contract because they initially weren't sure how successful the programme would be.

  • @CodenameJD Thank you for putting me straight .

I still don't think he's a very good actor though!

  • There's one more thing I have to express. I forgot McGann. Does he count? Of course he does, but while McGann does his best for the fans. Eccleston never did, had, or will. His performance was lazy. He never really gelled for me. I don't know if it was a lack of a regeneration, or it was because he took the money and ran away. It was to him a one year job, for children. It would look good on his CV, But recently he gave an interview in which he stated that (continues in next box)

  • Davidson play it being very vulnerable. After that, we get a kind of rehash of the first five characteristics. Colin Baker was grumpy (and if it wasn't for the internal politics at the BBC during the eighties, that saw the program axed) a fairly decent doctor. McCoy was Manipulative. Eccleston was eccentric with big teeth. Tennant was vulnerable. Smith plays the role at times, predominantly as Hartnall, Troughton, and Tennant, with a little of the rest thrown in!

  • Well I find that all the Doctor's represented different aspects of the character.

If you go in order; Hartnall was elusive, grumpy, and on the run. Troughton was clownish, manipulative, fought against evil, and got caught. Pertwee was very energetic, loved his gadgets, did martial arts, and got exiled. Tom baker is probably best remembered due to his seven-year stint, god like voice, eccentric behavior, and most of the best scripts the series every got.

  • @Caredroia i somewhat dissagree with what you say about the different doctors.

due to that, i will share with you all whether you like it or not, what i think of them.

William Hartnell was old (read: immaturely young), he was a criminal outcast, he was rather stubborn (more so than the others) and he was violent.

Patrick Troughton was what most people would refer to as a small child, he was only beggining to learn what it really meant to be the doctor.

  • @Caredroia

Jon Pertwee was the "teenage" doctor. He was suave, dapper, and jokingly paternal. He was also quite spry for his age.

Tom Baker was a die-hard adventurer, always wondering what lies in the next star system over. He became furious with those who were stupid or evil, and he was quite egocentric, although he had really good reasons to be,

Peter Davidson was the first doctor to truly hate violence, and he was by far the most peaceful and compassionate of them all.

  • @Caredroia Colin Baker was fiercely intelligent, fiercely eloquent, fiercely manic, he was a fierce defender of earth, and he was a fierce smart-ass

Sylvester McCoy kept a skin of curiousity and childlike winder, but underneath it he was a serious man, and a grand strategist. he was the gamemaster, and his advesaries were the players trying to thwart him.

Paul McGann. his charecter was far too undeveloped, far too straightforward, and far too badly written.

  • @CiaranConnollyIdeals personaly i think paul mcganns doctor was up untill matt smith the best doctor

  • @Caredroia Eccleston was truly a fantastic doctor (yes i said it) who felt his mercy fleeing him. he was not what you would call reserved.

David Tennant was a man who realised his age. he realised his power, and he realised his brutality, and he became sorrowful and sad, finding joy only in his companions, though he wouold never say it to their faces.

Matt Smith is wild, loud, forgiving, he is the elderly uncle we all wish we had.

  • I am the doctor!

  • At 2:19 is my favorite part.

  • Bravo, Bravo. What a dynamic British Actor. One of Britans finest indeed !

  • Jon is my Doctor and I'm only 19 years old.

  • Brilliant! Thanks for uploading, Jon was most certainly the Best Doctor, and I find it a personal insult when anyone claims that it was David Tennant! An amazing man and an amazing Time Lord!

  • @FowardUntoDawn13

Jon and Tom. I do have a certain fondness for the authoritative role of William Hartnell's role, as well.'

  • @suckmysockmonster Hartnell and Tom were both brilliant but have nothing on Jon. He was the best Doctor, he is the best Doctor and always will be the best Doctor!

  • @FowardUntoDawn13 I dunno about BEST, but he was certainly great. The best title, for me anyway, would have to go either to Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, or Peter Davison.

  • @Haakai All great Doctors. As long as you don't say David Tennant I won't disagree :)

  • @FowardUntoDawn13 Eh, I mean here's the thing - having Ten as your favourite Doctor is totally a legitimate opinion. The caveat is that this is only true if they've experienced the other Doctors. Like, at least a couple of the classic ones - not just Nine and Eleven. Most haven't though ;_;.

  • @Haakai But if they haven't experienced any of the Classic Doctors then they shouldn't proclaim Tennant as the Greatest Doctor as they have no true comparison. To me, Tennant's final two series greatly ruined Doctor Who for me.

  • Afraid to say I disagree with common opinion on new who but Tennant is third for me I much prefer Smith and Eccleston. In fact Smith makes my top 3 of all Doctors new and Old! I truly find him amazingly tremendous and struggle to enjoy Tennant. Sorry Tennant fans!

  • This is utter badassery at it's finest.

  • Dangit Three!! Why are you so awesome!!???

  • well i dont class it as singin lol. but he was an amazing man but these days i think doctor who has been going on for too long xx

  • this is badass!

  • The 3rd doctor was the ultimate doctor!

  • Omg love it!!!!

  • Greetings from The Altoona Regional Doctor Information Society. I just recently discovered the Doctor on BBC America. My wife followed the show during the Tom Baker days, but she and I are both keen on the new seasons. Of the three Doctors I've seen, I'd give David Tennant a slight edge over Christopher Eccelstone.

  • Loving the endless comments, once you become a Doctor Who fan its universal that you will have to sit and read and join in as to who your favorite Doctor is welcome to something thats been part of my life for 32 years xxx

  • @Cee1003 agee with u there even christopher eccelton is my doctor hes the one that was on there when i started watching it

  • It works a LOT better than William Shatner singing Lucy in the Sky! That was AWFUL! This is...interesting

  • Tom Baker will always be the best Doctor Who to me, followed by Jon Pertwee. Don't like the new Doctor at all...way too young.

  • I would like to have heard David Tennant take a spin at this!

  • not reallly singing but talking

  • Jon Pertwee is and always will be my Doctor! Love Tom and David and all... but Jon's the best!

  • Jon Pertwee is definitely the best Doctor.

  • pertwee is awesome

  • As I understand it, we are refered to as 'Whovians'.

  • @Velocity9s Unless you're one of those noobs who's trying to change it to Whooligans... what is this??? *facepalms*

  • @LaraElSupergirl Me?! A noob? No, youngin'. I'm 46 & I watched the 1st apearences of Tom Baker in America. Tho' I'm not officially connected to a Whovian fan club, while helping to run Star Trek fan convention(Hi all U Genisis-Khan-ers! Hey, Capt. Arlene Mabrey), I met took pics with self proclaimed 'Whovians' in the Dr.who con' across the hallin the mid 80s. I'm not clear as to wheather U think I want make use of the 'wholigans' moniker, but I don't. THEY called themselves 'Whovians' THAT yr.

  • @Velocity9s Ah, once again, the lack of ability to demonstrate facial expression makes my meaning unclear...

I was trying to point out that all these people who came in with Eleven and refuse to watch anything prior are going around calling themselves Whooligans and it's driving me up the wall...

  • @LaraElSupergirl OH. That explains the 'facepalms' reference. Got it. I agree that those who refuse to check out the old episodes are missing out. Tho' not great in special effect of the day, the old eps were great fun. And most of the actors were brilliant. I personally like Jon Pertwee the most along with #10. Tennant has attitude as well. I think the Ep' is called Class Reunion where he faces off against the alien vampire and say with menace, "i used to have SO much mercy...". Batman-i-TUDE!

  • @Velocity9s Pertwee is my absolute favorite Doctor... he had fantastic stories, great companions (LIZ SHAW FOR THE WIN!!!), the Master all over the place... He and Tennant are probably my tops, with Smith and McCoy coming in after them... Ah, I love it when I find people who aren't "classic series" or "new series" fans and constantly hating on the other one, just plain old Doctor Who fans, who take it for what it is... :)

  • @LaraElSupergirl Liz Shaw is my least fave, but I still like her! Just for discussion, who is your second fave Pertwee companion? As a man, I think Jo is the sexiest & the cutest. The most personality goes to Sarah Jane. She is also very personable. These days I find her sexy as an older women. I like Liz Shaw's all business attitude while being friendly with a humorous Joh Pertwee. Lis is certainly beautiful. I first saw her as sexy in that "Side-ways" in time ep'. What do U like about all 3?

  • @Velocity9s Well, Liz is my favorite, at least partly because she's the kind of girl that I would hope to be- smart, not afraid to speak her mind, and able to pull off go-go boots and a micromini *wink*- and she's followed up by Sarah Jane (I like her a lot less during the Baker years, but during the Pertwee years, she was amazing). Jo is my least favorite, simply by process of elimination, but I still think she's adorable and a great companion.

  • @LaraElSupergirl TRUE, THAT! Liz is smart & I appreciate a smart lady. She could often hold her own on an intellectual level with the Doctor while leaving the poor U.N.I.T. fella's behind. By the way, I assume You have enjoyed comics from time to time. Do you recognize the my screen name from the early Wally West era of Flash? The immortal Vandal Savage managed to capture the Falsh & injected him with a super-speed drug(!). West narrorates, "I sat up so fast I caused a sonic boom..." Wow...

  • @LaraElSupergirl Liz always seemed to butt heads with the dr i didn't much care for her but thats my opinion.

And sara jane started out a journalist and kind of regressed in to a teen age girl , liked her best when she was with jon pertwee. Mel was the most irritating ! Tegan was the 2nd most irritating . Joe was kind of like a lap dog for the dr. and Ace was a tom boy rebel lesbian terrorist . hahaha

  • @LaraElSupergirl OH. That explains the 'facepalms' reference. Got it. I agree that those who refuse to check out the old episodes are missing out. Tho' not great in special FX of the day, the old eps were great fun. And most of the actors were brilliant. I personally like Jon Pertwee the most along with #10. Tennant has attitude. I think the Ep' is called 'Class Reunion' where he faces off against the alien & says with menace, "I used to have SO much mercy...". Batman-TUDE! Sarah's hot @ 50(?)

  • I'm still a noob in Whoism and I know this is a matter of opinion, but is Jon generally accepted as the best doctor? I know that Tom Baker is probably the most famous in the US.

  • @TheEftelingFan Tom seems to be the most popular and the one most people think of when they think of the Doctor.

  • @TheEftelingFan Old school Who fans always chose between Tom and Jon, these days its a toss up between David Tennant & Matt Smith lol

  • @Cee1003 personally my two favourite doctors are patrick troughton and matt smith, I started on new who and then watched old who, I think all doctors are good so there isn't really a best doctor its just a matter of taste

  • @Cee1003 Actually, Nowadays it's between David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston, no one likes Matt.

  • @Cee1003 david all the way. XD

  • @Cee1003 I dont I choose Sylvester Mccoy!

  • @Cee1003 in terms of Jon & Tom i like both :-D

  • @Cee1003 For me, it's Tom Baker and David Tennant.

  • @Cee1003

    yeah! why though?

matt is the doctor people should just accept that and get on with their lives!

  • @Cee1003 For me it is still a toss up between Tom and Jon.

  • @Cee1003 hey Ecclestone is also a very good Doctor they just didnt give hime the chanse

  • @Cee1003 I used to watch Doctor Who as a youngster....found it by accident and it was the Tom Baker episodes...and grew quite fond of the series...so Tom is my favourite Doctor...but with the revival...I'm torn between David and Matt...both are great in their own ways, and found them both entertaining.

  • @Cee1003 I preferred Christopher Eccleston's version, but I did like David Tennant's version. Haven't seen enough of Matt Smith's take on the character, but from what I have seen, I think David was better.

  • @Cee1003 i dont know why tenent should be considered as better than eccleston, all tennent did was either be contrived or cry. This is coming from oldschool fan who likes the new series.

  • @Cee1003 not to argue, but for the modern series it is Eccleston or Tennant in first.

Smith is in third place. At least imo.

  • @TheEftelingFan my fav by far is patrick troughton. although i think jon just wings it for me over tom

  • @TheEftelingFan Wow that is a hard question. Im being pulled in two different directions !

    OUCH IT HURTS!!! STOP!!!

  • @TheEftelingFan It's seems that most people "imprint" upon whatever Doctor they began with. It's quite inscrutable really.

  • @TheEftelingFan

There is no consensus. That being said, Tom Baker was the greatest and anyone who says otherwise is a fucking hipster trying to avoid being 'mainstream'.

  • @TheEftelingFan

There is no consensus. That being said, Tom Baker was the greatest and anyone who says otherwise is a forking hipster trying to avoid being 'mainstream'.

  • @lollerkeet What if we think Baker eventually fell in his performance and eventually was just phoning it in after the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era?

  • I never realized until now how similar Pertwee's voice was to Boris Karloff.

  • wat is the ep at 0:10 secs?

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 In all honesty, I don't know, its been a looong time since i got the videos out and dusted down, plus the stills are a collection i got off a web site some years ago & couldn't tell you the url i'm afraid, sorry I couldn't have been much help, but maybe in time someone will answer you

  • @Cee1003 ok thats fine just thanks for postin it ya know!!!!

  • @Cee1003 that shot is from the mind of evil

  • @Cee1003 its the one with the sea devils

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 It's the Mind of Evil. It's only available on black and though and the episodes are on youtube in parts

  • @ShadyTipper112 *black and white though lol

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 I think that's Mind of Evil. It's not on DVD yet. It only exists in black and white but they are restoring the colour for the DVD release.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 I think it's the Sea Devils

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 I know this is like a month after you asked, and you've probably found out by now, but I'm fairly certain its from 'the mind of evil'.

Now if you will excuse me I have just taken my Dr Who nerd level to a new level and must go shut myself in a cupboard for an hour.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 I think its from terror of the autons.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 Mind of Evil

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 the mind of evil.it still exist as black and white film but some colour vhs clips do survive.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 'The Mind of Evil'

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 The Mind of Evil

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 It's the Mind Of Evil (1971).

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 The mind of evil, it only exists in black and whit although the still is in color

  • @jonukwho There is still one video chapter in color left the others where destroyed . :(

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 It looks like the Sea Monsters story, because the picture after it comes from the exact same story.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100

I'm pretty sure it's from The Mind Of Evil.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100

I'm pretty sure it's The Mind of Evil or The Sea Devils. :)

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 The Sea Monsters, I know it because I have it.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 I believe it's The Mind of Evil. It's the only one I can think of that was set in a contemporary prison, that wasn't The Sea Devils.

  • @TorchwoodIsGreatx100 *extremely delayed reply* That scene, with Three sitting in the prison room with Jo, is from the serial "Mind of Evil". I forget what number it was but it's a favorite among fans of the Master.

  • I love Patrick Troughton's furious little face on the Two Doctors still towards the end.

  • He's quite spry for his age, ya know.

  • @daleksith I'm not sure to who you are referring as all three doctors shown here are sadly passed away.

  • @Cee1003 No you see the third Doctor says it in one episode. I just thought it was a memorable quote of his.

  • @Cee1003 He's talking about Jon Pertwee. It's a qoute from The Green Death when the Doctor gets doubted for his kung-fu abilities by policemen then kicks their asses.

  • Is that... a real color photograph of Bill Hartnell at the end?

  • @SpotxSpot Yes it is, one of the last ones took for the Three Doctors shoot, he took ill so they limited his scenes to mainly on the monitor.

  • @Cee1003 he had Alzheimer's i believe. anyway, he had sever memory loss and was only shown in filmed inserts reading off cue cards

  • I don't think that is William Hartnell. I think it is actor Richard Hurndall, who played Hartnells role in the episode The Five Doctors, as Harrtnell had passed away by then.

  • @zaarpoool All pictures here are William Hartnell

  • @zaarpoool No that's William Hartnell. It's a pic from The Three Doctors. It puzzles me how they managed to get a picture of the three of them together yet Hartnell only appears on a screen in the actual episode.

  • Jon Pertwee used to scare me as a child!!

  • The b side is even greater

  • At least he's proven he's a better singer than William Shatner...

  • @TrakMiro doesnt really take much :D

  • what a gentleman. RIP Mr Pertwee you genius. on behalf of all Doctor Who fans in my family thank you so much :)

  • RIP JON PERTWEE 1919-1996

  • RIP JON PERTWEE 1919-1996

  • Where did you get the song?

  • This is too awesome!!! :D:D:D

  • He is...The Doctor!

  • Clearly Jon was ahead of his time-but then with the tardis he had a great advantage. The greatest Dr Who by a mile.

  • PERTWEE ***IS*** THE DOCTOR.

  • This remind anyone else of William Shatner's Rocketman?

  • @Jrinu I was more thinking it has a Vincent Price/Thriller type feel to it.

  • He got that tattoo in WW2, he was in submarines, but was too tall, he then got put onto the HMS Hood - which got sunk, he was chucked off to go & study to be an officer 3 days before it got sunk by the Germans - only 3 guys survived...

  • @HEV29 Hi just to let you know my great uncle Ken Algate took his place on HMS Hood.

  • Jon Pertwee, the first rap artist! Cool song, fits the theme. Anyone know about the tatoo he had that accidently gets shown during a shower scene in his first episode? What was a butterfly or something? One cool dude and probably one of the most 'physical' doctors.
