As far as I know, Jimi wasn't that fond of traditional jazz but he could play it effortless. Listen to his Jimmy Smith-like licks at 1:59 onwards and the way plays rythm' guitar. You can notice the influence of the great Kenny Burrell.
This was always my favorite piece from that album. Realizing what he'd done, splitting that jam into two pieces, I was always obsessed with hearing it in it's reconstituted, original form. I was finally able to put it back together in the 80s when I mastered punch editing on my new audio cassette deck. Good to know I wasn't the only one who did it.
I doubt that is Noel Redding on bass. He simply did not play in that style ever. It sounds like it is Mike Finnigan doing the foot pedal bass on the Hammond organ as he did in Rainy Day on Electric Ladyland.
Now that I think of it, Finnigan played the bass on the lower keyboard of his Hammond Organ. On the original Rainy Day he just kind of "pumped" the bass line. On this recording he is walking the bass line.
i was just wondering ..... imagine fela kuti in on a jam like this..... he was a notorious jammer for sure...... he could definetely pump out some mileage from this jam.... hendrix and fela kuti... so cool...
thanx for sharing cheers V-kush

I had the pleasure of playing with Buddy Miles, and the blessing of having Finnigan play B3 and piano on my upcoming CD, which will be out shortly...
