  • Relationships must be interesting when one is immortal. Courtships taking place over the millennia. Engagements can last for decades. Wedding preparations take over a century. And let's not even get started on the "so long as you both shall live" bit. When Thingol and Melian first met, they spent centuries just staring at each other.

  • "It is told that the Valar would leave their works, and the birds of Valinor their mirth, that the bells of Valmar were silent and the fountains ceased to flow, when at the mingling of the lights Melian sang in Lorien."

Maybe my favorite verse in the book.

  • First: learn some manners. Second: you are wrong ... Greymantle or Greycloak is the same thing ... talking about semantics. Third: Thingol and the whole royal family of Teleri (including Olwe his brother and Celeborn his cousin) all had white/silver hair.

Learn some manners and read the books before you go embarrassing yourself.

  • Pity you don't have the brains to back up your mouth. I went through Marines boot camp just like all fleet marine force corpsman do which you would know if you really were a marine. So in other words you are simply a pathetic cowardly poser. Stop breathing you're wasting good air. By the way, did you know that "thy" actually means your? Just like thee means you. Dolt.

  • "Great power Melian lent to thingol, WHO WAS HIMSELF GREAT AMONG THE ELDAR" As to his hair, you are ASSUMING that it changed color when no such statement was ever made or even implied. It is simply stated that it WAS grey silver. Simply beacuse you Choose to interpret it that way does not make it fact..

  • It says she lent Elwe much power " who was himself great among the Eldar;" As to his hair color you are ASSUMING that the text implies his hair color was changed when that is merely an interpretation of the text. It does not SAY that it changed. You merely interpret it that way. "his hair as grey silver" may simply have implied that it now shone like silver whereas before it had been an ordinary grey.

  • while I admit that your interpretation is the more likely of the two, you simply cannot state it as fact because it is not specifically stated. It does not say what color Olwe's hair was, and it also never says that Elwe had LONG hair. So where are getting those ideas? MORE ASSUMPTIONS. Just because it seems the most likely to YOU doesn't make it fact. I only accept what is specifically stated BY THE AUTHOR.

  • Furthermore, Tolkien WAS ENGLISH HIMSELF! YOU ILLITERATE, SPELLING CHALLENGED, ARROGANT, PETTY, FOUL-MOUTHED, RUDE, PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A MARINE!!! I AM A NAVY CORPSMAN FORMERLY ATTACHED TO THE 3RD MAR DIV AND I HAVE NEVER MET A MARINE WHO WOULD TALK TO A CORPSMAN LIKE THIS OVER ANYTHING!!! MUCH LESS A SIMPLE SCHOLARLY DEBATE OVER THE CONTENT OF A NOVEL!!

  • Also I disagree as to your opinion of his power. You make it sound as if without Melian he was nothing, wich is untrue. While melian was the source of the protection of Doriath, it is also plainly stated that Elwe was a king both by right and by wisdom, with power of his own long before they met. In fact as I am sure you must know, he was the rightful king of the Teleri and Olwe his brother only took the kingship of that people when Elwe did not return.

  • It should be noted that King Elwe also called elu thingol King greycloak. was clad always in grey, and his hair was natually the color of pure silver even in youth. NOT black as is shown in the artists painting.

  • Unfortunately for you, you are quite wrong and should check these things before you correct someone else. A cloak is a mantle, and therefore one of the interpretations of his epithet. If you require proof, look up Thingol in the index of the Silmarillion, and you will find that the very first definition is Greycloak and the second is Gremantle. By the way, Theoden was using a NICKNAME that Gandalf aquired in rohan because he always susally appeared in that land when trouble was brewing. ETB

  • they look like Zuko and Katara or Jin or Mai from Avatar.

  • Isn't Melian an incredible beautiful name? If I ever get a daughter, I wanna name her that :p

  • So is her daughter's name: Luthien. Also, I think that the word for "green" would make a beautiful name: Laiqua.

Tolkein invented a beautiful language, it's a pity that it is not spoken natively anywhere in the world...

  • this is si incredibly set, the voice is simply inviting. Love it.

  • Keep 'em coming dude. Really appreciate it.
