Considering in stock form they run mid to low 14's, get your ecu chipped for 130, crushed 1g BOV for 50, Evo yellow tops for 150, 150 for a small 16g that's free to PnP. There's your 500 bucks. Add a walbro or bosh fuel pump for another 90 and you have yourself a 12.3 sec DSM for under 600 dollars. Sorry you went 100 bucks over budget.
DSM's are so underrated by people with more expensive car's. My 14B Eclipse GSX @ 13psi with boost leaks and a passenger walked a 2010 STi 3 times in a row and I only had the car a week at that point so you can't blame his driving if it even was that bad.
The eclipse I paid the equivalent of $2,000 for vs a $37,000 Sti and I won... Amazing.
Luckly I now have a evo 3 16G @ 20 PSi... HUGE difference over the 14B by the way and I still have less than $2,300 into it including the car.. amazing..

@LD25Delta9 Well, to be honest sir, theres lots of potential with any Honda motor, they make some reliable motors, lots of aftermarket backs them up, and numbers can be made, but it's hard to get traction with any Honda producing even 250 or more horses at the wheels without the use of slicks, which usually means you'll need stouter axles... but the bottom line is DSM's are the one of the absolute most cost effect turbo 4 cylinder applications, and they can put the power to the ground.
of course a DSM will win from a damn dig. what a dumb race. take it to the track where u actually have to take corners and see who wins then u cocky POS....

as fast as the talon is , and i do respect the talon. i believe that viper will always have more potential , plus that vipers engine will last longer . i think people forget the beauty in purposely built fast cars. sure you can make a civic fast. after its stripped out and boosted to hell. where as viper or a Lamborghini can come along and offer you a full range of amenities , look good, and do fast effortlessly. thats the beauty in super cars for me.

@DVcustomZ yes. but the problem with them is , they only last to an extent. boosting an engine typically reduces the life of it since it wears the parts down quicker. and yeah the first one or two gens of vipers were pretty stripped out but the newer ones are pretty good and for the price i can kind of see why they lack a few amenities, keep in mind viper gives you super car speeds for less then super car money to begin with. plus the viper has quite a bit of pedigree now
@falshami That motto apllies to engine that are NA-T when a car is boosted from the factory boost is taken into consideration from the begining. So compnents last as long as NA motors. Until you think your john force and turn the boost up beyond intended without making rqrd mods.
@falshami Well, my old Mr2 Turbo offered plenty of comfort, looked good, and with a few mods (boost control, bolt-on's etc.) would easily run with the supers (0-60 in about 4 seconds at a mere 15-16 lbs of boost). And it did all this while delivering a combination of reliability, affordability and mpg that none of the supercars could dream of.
@bliglum That's what I love about the mr2, I have an sw21 and looking to get the DSM 3sgte swap. Still such an exceptional car even with the 5sfe, an all around fun car.
@TheOmegaeyes Ya, I miss that car soo much. One of the best cars I've ever owned. If you get the swap, make sure you go for the gen 3, makes the most power stock and has the best tuning potential. But if you plan on staying at stock boost, the ceramics power gen 2 is a nice choice thanks to its almost lag-free ceramic turbo.
@bliglum Thanx for the input, what would I expect to spend on the 3rd gen? I've even concidered keeping it na and maybe going with the beams motor if the $ was right but I think I'd still want more then the 160 - 175 hp it would offer. The original 5sfe that's in it now still runs well with only 132k but the valve seals are going I think, no leaks but I get a puff of smoke on first start. Still a strong motor, just not sure what I should do.
@TheOmegaeyes 2-3 grand for the 3s gTe, a good deal more to build and install it (might as well make it stronger beforehand) then you've got like 300-500+Whp depending on boost.. Plenty for sub 3000lb car. And there is also a V-6 option. I've heard the beams motor is pretty bad ass. Never driven one myself tho, I had a 91 5sfe. Did that same puff of smoke on startup thing from day 1.. I sold it 5 years later, and the smoke hadn't gotten any worse. It made a great sound with an Intake tho.
@bliglum Yeah, I've heard the same from other 5sfe owners, no big deal just a little oil burning off in the valve seals. I put in some marvel mystery oil yesterday just to see if it does anything. 2-3k is over my budget especially if it's not including labor. I'll prob just keep it the way it is for a while. I've heard both positive and negitive stories about boosting the 5s, it would be a cheaper option to the swap though.
@TheOmegaeyes Yeah, you can boost the 5s.. just don't try going too high on the psi. it would cost much less than a 3s swap.. but also develop much less power, cause it wasn't built for boost.. And DAMN that 3s gte can sure take the boost and make that powa!! As it is afterall simply 2/3rds of 2jz supra motor. Also worth noting, the 3s setup has a stronger tranny w/ limited diffs and shit. the 5s... not so much.
@bliglum So I've heard, the low compression makes the 5s less turbo friendly evedently. 2/3rds of a 2jz, that I didn't know I used to have a relativley stock sw20 '91 before having to sell it. That's why I ended up getting the '91 non turbo, I just loved the turbo so much and I got it at a killer price. There are a couple short vids of it on my profile if you wanna check it out.

When will little girls wake up and realize that DSM is the end-all of performance in a small package. I've seen DSM take Vipers, Vettes, Lambos, just about any kind of exotic car you can think of. I've even seen video of a DSM eating a 500GT alive. For the price, you just can't beat DSM. You can purchase and fully build a DSM to out-perform a car that cost 10x as much, even after parts and labor. Honduh, Nissan, Subaru....none of them got shit on DSM's 40.

@LD25Delta9 Well, to be honest sir, theres lots of potential with any Honda motor, they make some reliable motors, lots of aftermarket backs them up, and numbers can be made, but it's hard to get traction with any Honda producing even 250 or more horses at the wheels without the use of slicks, which usually means you'll need stouter axles... but the bottom line is DSM's are the one of the absolute most cost effect turbo 4 cylinder applications, and they can put the power to the ground.

as fast as the talon is , and i do respect the talon. i believe that viper will always have more potential , plus that vipers engine will last longer . i think people forget the beauty in purposely built fast cars. sure you can make a civic fast. after its stripped out and boosted to hell. where as viper or a Lamborghini can come along and offer you a full range of amenities , look good, and do fast effortlessly. thats the beauty in super cars for me.

@DVcustomZ yes. but the problem with them is , they only last to an extent. boosting an engine typically reduces the life of it since it wears the parts down quicker. and yeah the first one or two gens of vipers were pretty stripped out but the newer ones are pretty good and for the price i can kind of see why they lack a few amenities, keep in mind viper gives you super car speeds for less then super car money to begin with. plus the viper has quite a bit of pedigree now

@falshami Well, my old Mr2 Turbo offered plenty of comfort, looked good, and with a few mods (boost control, bolt-on's etc.) would easily run with the supers (0-60 in about 4 seconds at a mere 15-16 lbs of boost). And it did all this while delivering a combination of reliability, affordability and mpg that none of the supercars could dream of.

@TheOmegaeyes Ya, I miss that car soo much. One of the best cars I've ever owned. If you get the swap, make sure you go for the gen 3, makes the most power stock and has the best tuning potential. But if you plan on staying at stock boost, the ceramics power gen 2 is a nice choice thanks to its almost lag-free ceramic turbo.

@bliglum Thanx for the input, what would I expect to spend on the 3rd gen? I've even concidered keeping it na and maybe going with the beams motor if the $ was right but I think I'd still want more then the 160 - 175 hp it would offer. The original 5sfe that's in it now still runs well with only 132k but the valve seals are going I think, no leaks but I get a puff of smoke on first start. Still a strong motor, just not sure what I should do.

@TheOmegaeyes 2-3 grand for the 3s gTe, a good deal more to build and install it (might as well make it stronger beforehand) then you've got like 300-500+Whp depending on boost.. Plenty for sub 3000lb car. And there is also a V-6 option. I've heard the beams motor is pretty bad ass. Never driven one myself tho, I had a 91 5sfe. Did that same puff of smoke on startup thing from day 1.. I sold it 5 years later, and the smoke hadn't gotten any worse. It made a great sound with an Intake tho.

@bliglum Yeah, I've heard the same from other 5sfe owners, no big deal just a little oil burning off in the valve seals. I put in some marvel mystery oil yesterday just to see if it does anything. 2-3k is over my budget especially if it's not including labor. I'll prob just keep it the way it is for a while. I've heard both positive and negitive stories about boosting the 5s, it would be a cheaper option to the swap though.

@TheOmegaeyes Yeah, you can boost the 5s.. just don't try going too high on the psi. it would cost much less than a 3s swap.. but also develop much less power, cause it wasn't built for boost.. And DAMN that 3s gte can sure take the boost and make that powa!! As it is afterall simply 2/3rds of 2jz supra motor. Also worth noting, the 3s setup has a stronger tranny w/ limited diffs and shit. the 5s... not so much.

@bliglum So I've heard, the low compression makes the 5s less turbo friendly evedently. 2/3rds of a 2jz, that I didn't know I used to have a relativley stock sw20 '91 before having to sell it. That's why I ended up getting the '91 non turbo, I just loved the turbo so much and I got it at a killer price. There are a couple short vids of it on my profile if you wanna check it out.
