  • pare megaleeeeeeeeee

    SOFIA VEMPO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The song was first performed by the Michalis Patrinos rebetiko band in Athens, Greece in 1927. As with almost all early rebetika songs (a style that originated with the Greek refugees from Asia Minor in Turkey), the song's actual composer has never been identified, and its ownership rested with the band leader. The melody was most likely composed collaboratively by the band, as was often the case at the time; the initial lyrics were almost certainly written by Patrinos himself.

  • I love youtube because of all the idiots debating back and forth.

As an ancient beast once said, "Struggle through misconception and fear the truth for as a mind is only that of a whole when truth is told." Anyhow as this isn't the original song and the reality is that the song was made so far back in time that several countries thinks it originates from them. It is impossible to say where it originates from.

  • How this guy isn't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest mistake in their existance.

  • My apalogies to the downloder of this video about the interaction with a racist bigot here. However, I have to speak the truth regardless. At least, I should have the right to correct few things up. Thanks.

  • @Fussinated Thanks for that explanation! That's awesome, I had no Idea that Dave Brubeck adapted Turkish music into his music. No wonder it sounds so amazing. I love a Pioneer.

  • @Hungry4Herb You are welcome. Yes, I like Dave Brubeck too. I like jazz and all kinds of quality music anyway.

  • pump it????

  • where do they get these turkish riffs in the 60's?

  • @Hungry4Herb actually it's not turkish.it is taken from an old greek song of rebetiko style called Misirlou(means egyptia muslim girl) which was firstly performed in Athens in 1927 by Michalis Patrinos, who was a greek refuge from Minor Asia.

  • @novaera5 Actually, Greek still today play and dance with Turkish tunes, so the tune is definitely has Turkish character regardless where was it performed first.

  • @Fussinated its not turkish tune.the kind of music of the song is called rebetiko....which only Greeks were playing and still play. And we do not dancing to Turkish tunes please.Sometimes we dance tsifteteli(belly dance) which is Arab dance, but not turkish.

  • @novaera5 "Sometimes we dance tsifteteli(belly dance) which is Arab dance"

You guys are mazing, You claim Imam bayildi as Greek yet you can't tell its greek name sine there is none, You claim that Yoghurt is Greek yet you use the Turkish name, You call ciftetelli as Arabic but it is a Turkish tune, You call Misirlou (Misirlu how you say it) it is the broken form of Misirli meaning from egypt in Turkish, you claim baklava have no idea why you call it baklava. Why do you hate Turkish this much?

  • @Fussinated We don't claim imam bayildi as greek.as for the yoghurt we do have greek word for it....and its called Myzithra....and you know we are making myzithra since ancient years.we just use both words, but it doesn't mean that Turks invented yogurt.many countries makes their kind of yoghurts. Also i didn't say that the word Misirlou is greek.I said that the music is based on greek rebetiko. As for baklava Turks also took it from Arabs. We don't hate them. They still hate us.

  • @novaera5 "We don't claim imam bayildi as greek"

LOL The greeks I met here claimed otherwise so far, one being a restaurant owner.

"as for the yoghurt we do have greek word for it....and its called Myzithra"

    No. U call it YAGURTI.

Mizithra (Greek: Μυζήθρα) is a traditional, unpasteurized fresh cheese made with milk and whey from sheep and/or goats.[1] The ratio of milk to whey usually is 7 to 3.

"but it doesn't mean that Turks invented yogurt"

Right now, it means u speak lies.

  • @Fussinated I don't need to lie.sometimes we say myzithra not only for cheeze. And i'm Greek. And obviously you have some kind of problem with Greeks!! Are you from Turkey??Because you seem to speak like most Turkish speak to Greeks on internet, quite hateful.

  • @novaera5 "I don't need to lie"

    Then why do you lie?

"sometimes we say myzithra not only for cheeze"

Perhaps because u can't digest to use something originally Turkish.

"obviously you have some kind of problem with Greeks"

Only with those who have problem with Turkish and speak lies.

    "Are you from Turkey"

    I am from U.S.

"Because you seem to speak like most Turkish speak to Greeks on internet, quite hateful"

How so? Did I tell lies about the Greek as you do?

  • @Fussinated i don't know what problem do you have with Greece, because its obvious that you do......if you want to believe that i'm telling lies, its your problem not mine!! I don't need to tell lies....but you need to solve your hatred problem.ciao.

  • @novaera5 "i don't know what problem do you have with Greece, because its obvious that you do"

Greece? I don;t have anyproblem with Greece, I have a unversal prblem with liars and bigots.

"if you want to believe that i'm telling lies, its your problem not mine"

It is not what I believe I gave U references about your lies. U R havingproblems admitting it

"but you need to solve your hatred problem".

Hate is ur problem and U can't solve it until u admit it.

  • @Fussinated Ohhh....come on.it's obvious from which country you are.I don't really want to continue this childish conversation. And you do have hatred problem...so go to a mirror and admit it to yourself.

  • @novaera5 "As for baklava Turks also took it from Arabs"

Again, I remember a year ago or so Greek together with Armenians were claiming that Baklava originally belonged to them. R U sure u r from Greek at all? Because u either r a big liar or simply trying to play a stupid game.

    "We don't hate them"

Yes u do. Otherwise u would justful and that U R not.

    "They still hate us"

How many Turkish u spoke in ur entire life, not from Κομοτηνή of course since U treat them unjust anyway

  • @novaera5 "ciftetelli" (meaning double wired) arabic you say how about "kasab havasi" (meaning butcher tune)? They do Greek festival here every year and I go there. They play and dance more than half the tunes are Turkish. If you go to a Turkish circumcision ceremony or engagment party in Turkey you would see what I mean. And don't be afraid turkish don't bite unless you start insulting them and their culture.

  • @Fussinated I'm from Greece and i have never heard about this kasab havasi....maybe only Greeks from Minor Asia dance it.But the rest of Greece don't know it for sure. But i will repeat that Misirlou is an old rebetiko song...rebetiko style is followed only by Greeks and its not turkish traditional music.Sorry for disappointing you but it is true.

  • @Hungry4Herb During the 60's western musicians started to search different tunes, one of them would be Dave Brubeck, for example, he came up with 11/9's beat from Classical Turkish music and adapted it into his music.

  • I know that this is the Guitar Hero II version but I'm curious what year this was originally recorded? Was it from a live album? recorded by a fan (unlikely considering the quality)? A B-side of a single? Or was it something that he did especially for rock band?

  • @jsmurley1289 *Guitar Hero

  • @jsmurley1289 I'm pretty sure they got another guitarist to come in and re-record this version. They did that with most of the songs, actually.

  • @SlayerFan1993 I'm sure they did but what was the original recording did the other guitarist copied from?

it doesn't even sound like real dick dale...

    or even like surf.

  • @rabbitnosekid uhm dude, this IS the original version

  • @SleepwalkerGM No sir, it is not. its the guitar hero version. and it acually isn't even dick dale playing, according to a comment lower down.

  • @rabbitnosekid this is on his greatest hits album from the 70s man >_>

  • @SleepwalkerGM I'd bet that the original version of Misirlou is on his greatest hits album. because that is one of his greatest hits.

  • @SleepwalkerGM this is the greatest hits one? according to the actual uploaded video, its the guitar hero version

  • @rabbitnosekid Oh yeah, cause we can always trust the people on youtube to have accurate information, huh...

  • @rabbitnosekid I agree. Saying that this sounds better than the original is like saying that the elevator music version of a pretty cool hit is better than the original, wtf?! :-S

  • this version is a bit....jumbled, like just a shit-ton of emphasis on the guitar.

    ...

    I kinda like it

  • My favorite version, Pulp Fiction suck

  • Love this version :)

  • Wait nvm

  • This is The Victor not Misirlou.…

  • Naw this is the original it sounds the exact same as the version on my del tones greatest hits cd

  • Uh... this is the modern version by a younger guitarist.

  • FYI, this is a cover of the song made for Guitar Hero II.

  • @Fonzarellify

    original is better

  • @1highplains Actually, this is a new recording, and the guitar player here is one of "those guys nowadays". Oops?

  • @CDBigShow lol win

  • @1highplains He follows in the tradition of Greek Bouzouki. Even Jimmy Hendrix learned from Manolis Chiotis. If you are interested, these Greek musicians of the 1920's,30's,40's and even 50's play an amazing guitar-like instrument, like gods and blow away Dick Dale and others. Try, searching in Youtube:

    Manolis Hiotis VS Hendrix

    Vamvakaris Fragkosyriani

    Tsitsanis

    Zambetas

You thought dale had twiddle fingers?

Hiotis is the only guy who had a 5 chord bouzouki. Unbelievable musical talent

  • @DimitrisMPapadakis hey man, thanks for the heads up on those artists - im really interested in music like that :)

  • @DimitrisMPapadakis Pesta re megale.. etsi na ma8ainoune ;)

  • i love this version

  • Me too! =D

  • @jakub1980 me threeXD

  • *WOW*WOW*GOOD MUSIC

  • Woah!... what is that symbol/character? *?

  • Everyone in the world can trace roots back to somewhere other than America ---its America that embraces such a fertile enviroment for growth and new idea's---looking forward-- not to the past. A true melting pot of any and all, bringing their heritage and going forward ;););)

  • This is a Greek (rebetiko) song, was first performed by the Michalis Patrinos rebetiko band in Athens, Greece in 1927.

  • my favorite version

    thanks for posting

  • I like this one as well, but I prefer his original version.

  • You're welcome =)

  • The penultimate surf instrumental tune of the early 60's. Who cares if its based on Middle Eastern music and that Dick has a Lebanese background. It rocks !! That's all that matters. There's a whole swag of fabulous early songs he did - both instrumental + vocal.
