It was like that for a lot of countries in the old days of theater. Spain is one exception. Since the late 1500's in Spanish theater, the roles of women were played by women.

@pytko3 Yeah, but it can be quite irritating when you're cast in the same role over and over...I quit a play once as one of the reasons was I was incredibly hurt that I was being pushed towards the bad guy role (Which I didn't want) and never got a chance to have a try at Belle. (As I only wanted a try because I was treated like her a lot throughout my life, I wasn't expecting to get that part at all.) And when they changed it to the role I didn't want, I was out of there.

Piggy not only acts very mean and cranky in this ep., but her eyes seem to "look" cranky and mean. Almost as if she woke up on the wrong side of the crib!
