  • thanx for the advice bro... i know i wanna do a science but not sure between chemistry and physics. I guess ill see way the dude with the afro has to say

  • I'm only 15 but I am doing math at a senior level. (I am a sophomore)

I have done a lot of research. Read books such as Hyperspace, Physics of the Impossible, and Einsteins Telescope. I really hope I can get a career in astrophysics

  • crap i hit the dislike on accident

  • I wanna be a gardner

  • PLEASE ANSWER, I want to become an astrophysicist, but I didn't start off so good in math. Now that I am taking an interest in it and taking classes to help me regain knowledge. Do you think it's possible for me to become one?

  • @TooFlyForMoney yeahh i have the same problem... :p

  • @TooFlyForMoney I understand how you feel

  • @mistinh7 i really want to be an astrophysicist thanks phil for the advice

  • @amtriplekkk True example of an ignoramus.

  • do they have astrophysics at nyu?

  • hiii !! please can you tell me what's the academic path that one should have to work in a dome, or an observatory, like a researcher or an observator ? is it hard to find such a job ????

  • Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction my mind is non stopping I sleep 4 hour a night Ive looked into and have read many articles in CS. Astrophysic, EEng.infact im on my computer reading everything i find interesting to me its crazy but it fulfills part of where am I'm headed. I have a Dell XPS 625 AMD Phemom ll 2TB HD 4670 ATi graphics 16 GIG RAM. QUAD CORE intercooled. and games are just not my thing. Somebody tell me what or where do I start to go to my interest. Thanks Part 2

  • I am an extreme Empathic Psychic. I'm nearly photographic with all numbers my interests have been in computer science, Astrophysics, Electrical Engineering .I have 30 years as a corporate teacher and instructor of painting&autobody metal finish repair.Multitasking is an everday for me i become upset with others because they cant do it and its just like eating to me its a natural thing I do with my intelligence I'm bored in my field i just Took an I.Q. test it just seemed easy I score a 182

  • @williamrembrandt60 where can i take that test ? :)

  • different in a way of understanding, that is.

  • well this video has me thinking that i could be what i wanted to be, an astrophysicist. currently getting my 2yr degree in math, didn't take physics yet (since at my school theres only 1 course for it) and am going to take it, but for some reason i thought that it would be different than calc.

  • i feel him when he talks about people people looking up to him because he studies physics.

I study medcine and i would be rubbish in physics but people keep telling that it's so super hard etc.

As he says it's all about where you strengths are and what you are fascinated about!

  • i just watched "How the universe works" and found back my first love...Physics.Unfortunately,because i was being to cocky,my parent decided to just gave up on me.I got good grade without much effort, and now i'm working in a semiconductor company for 160 bucks a month?Life's hard.....

  • Ability to follow your dreams is amazing and understanding astrophysics is amazing. What is more amazing is you' re acknowledging your shortcomings. You will go far and i wish the best for you.

  • Ladies and gentleman, we have a true nerd right here...and he is awesome!!! :D

  • I always wanted to get into the field of astrophysics or as an astronautical engineer (rocket scientist), but learning capacity and money needed for education can only take one so far.

  • well spoken dude

  • I adore astrophysics and cosmology but unfortunately i am no good at math

  • i am an astrophysician too

  • hey well when I was a little girl I wanted to be a scientist ^^

Man how much I was mocked for that lol but I still fight to be an astrophysicist because I love science and every little detail about it...

  • Happy man

  • you goofball enjoy the fact you can accomplish something other people CANT.

    I enjoy the feeling hahaha

  • i want to so astrophysics !

  • Two thumbs up for math!! Its very interesting researching the history of math!!

  • very helpful. thanks.

    imaging radars" +"mathforum" google.com.

  • Awesome and motivational story. I definitely agree with "do it bc its what you want to do", with that mindset you'll succeed at anything, because it'll always feel rewarding and leaving you wanting more.

-Undergrad heading down the same career path, hopefully!

  • I am hoping to study Computer Science with Astrophysics after the courses I am studying at the moment. I start my A-Level Math and Physics next year after my National Diploma in Software Development. The Universe has always been my number 1 interest of mine. :)

  • so your options where lawyer or working in some sort of office of this? you should try making something.

  • OOOMG HE UNDERSTANDS MEEE !!!!

  • hi, i'm at gcse level and i really do want to go into a career in physics, probably astrophysics, and i am currently at a* grades in both physics and maths. i was just wondering, is it difficult finding a job in astrophysics, and what would be the salary at the peak of your career?

thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated

  • @ChRIs23696 Salary is not great, you shouldn't pick the way you're going to live the rest of your life on money. You will regret it later on. Choose something you would enjoy going to everyday.

  • I want to be an astrophysisist I want to do it so i can work with space and all that and i'm good at formulas

  • I've been fascinated with space since I was 10; I'm at a university where I can do it, but I struggle so much with math. IDK if I should just push and struggle through with the math, or just pursue something else.

  • @nnglfc13 Struggle.

  • this guys a legend

  • lol, i was interested in computer science too, but after i was too lazy to learn a programming language i gave it up and now i know that i want to be a scientist/millionaire :P

  • I see many people commenting here about his situation applying to them, and that really surprises me. I've recently been torn around Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Astronomical studies. So really, I am in the same position! I guess only time will tell what I end up following through with.

  • Starting school in the fall, majoring in astrophysics! WHAAAAAT, so excited! :D

  • When I get to UCLA i'm gonna major in Astrophysics & Computer Science!

  • what a nice guy, good on you! I remember i wanted to study astronomy but them i feel in love with the universe that is autism.

  • i'm also interested in computer science. I'm studing english now,

ps:sorry for the possible english mistakes :*

  • hellooo I'm 15 and I'm really really good at Maths, but my passion is the universe, galaxies, stars, planets *_* I'm writing form Abania, and unfortunately here there's not a univerity course for astrophysics. I'm really thinking that after college I can go in USA or canada and study astrophysics, I don't know where but I feel that is the right thing!

  • @melody2255 Yeah you'll want to come to the USA for that!

  • Huh, I was actually thinking of double majoring in Astrophysics and Computer Science.

  • Its my dream, wont stop tell I get there =)

  • I want to be an astrophysisist when i grow up haha with all these earthquakes goin on idk if im gunu live tu 18 haha

  • agreed

  • @Kelescope

    good call lol

  • astrophysics is a very nice subject

  • wow what he just described seems to be happening to me. I cant decide what to do with my life. I have though about Astronautical engineering but i have always had an interest with stars and planets.

  • wow that is the EXACT same as me but i was looking more at Aeronuatical engineering haha

  • Really...its as if i dont know what to do because they told me to go with astrophysics but idk,..what grade are you in?

  • @Kelescope Why not?

  • So, the earth was created, that's it, that's all you need to know. No need to study geology, geography, ecology, petroleum engineering or alternative energy sources, meteorology...uh huh...

  • @svezda1 Sarcasm dude, learn to respect it :)

  • Didn't sound like sarcasm to me. You were joking??

I thought you sounded like so many fundamentalists here in the southern USA who really believe what you typed. Where is the sarcasm? I've met people who would absolutely agree with the senseless things in your comment.

  • @svezda1 LOL, so what your saying is that the average intelligence of humans has dropped so dangerously low, that just acting stupid isn't enough to veil my sarcasm.

that's sad man, i weep for the species.

  • stfu

  • This is my dream! I love Astrophysics!

I'm studying Physics for my LC rite now, but this is what i wanna do in college!

It's amazing! From the smallest sub atomic particle to the biggest Galaxy! :D

  • You can see he loves it!!

  • He expresses himself very well and explains the field very well ! Great job !!

  • what kind of math do you got to know?

  • @normajeanmartyr

Calculus I and II, Vector Calculus, probably linear algebra, and ordinary differential equations, if you go into theoretical particle physics on the other hand, you need linear and abstract algebra, and partial differential equations, along with quantum of course

  • Lie algebra is also necessary for certain aspects of particle physics -- and by extension Representation Theory is also helpful. I had to do all of the previously mentioned (Calculus, Diff EQs, etc) and Lie algebra and Rep. Theory while I was studying for my doctorate in Astrophysics.

  • linear algebra is pretty easy, multi-variable calculus is harder.

  • Yah, I'm in High School and when I tell people what I want to do, they say I'm crazy :D The funny thing is though, I can only do math well when I apply it to Physics. I'm in Trigonometry right now and I'm a bit horrible at it, but I'm also in Physics at the moment, and I'm fine when I do the required mathematics. It's also funny that I'm a natural in English/History, whereas I have to work harder in math/Science, and yet, I still have that call in my heart to pursue Astrophysics :D

  • I hear you man.

    "I wanna be a cop."

"Cool man, I wanna be a lawyer!"

Me: "I wanna be a theoretical astrophysicist."

    its a hard life :P

  • @cellavb447 It's not hard if you enjoy it, if you think it's hard don't become one.

  • 1:00, he is pretty much bang on there. For the first while, I kind of enjoyed being thought of as being incredibly smart that I'm going into astrophysics, however now that I'm half way through my second year of undergrad, it's getting really annoying, and whenever somebody asks me what I'm in and I tell them astrophysics, I always anticipate the usual "omg that's insane" or 80% of the time "wow". It really is what you're good at. I'd probably be a horrible english major or accountant.

  • @KaiserBrandon340

yeah same hear, but I study Theoretical Physics :D

  • Nice interview, but the constant swaying of the camera is getting hella annoying.

  • nice interview makes me want to study astrophysics even more

  • I want to become this, a nuclerphyicist or some other type

  • Good for you! I hope you have a great time, and work hard....

    :)

  • Non. It is based on observations and calculations made in the lab.

  • Thanks man

  • its based on science. no religion broski. but i guess its more for atheists

  • Comment removed

  • I love Astrology/astrophisics i just find it quite interesting and my mind and heart wants to know and learn more about it even if i got to do things i not always wanted i dont think science is for nerds i think science is just looking at things like a diff way i was never in to this but now i wanna die for this :D

  • sweet! I'd love to learn more about this subject. I'm open to book/video recommendations : )

  • Cheers mate! keep going for it, ou migh get the nobel prize :) i am going for computer forensics mself right now and am thinking about switching to astropysics after i am done too. how long did it take you? did you get your PhD?

  • I'm still 18 and I already got Accountancy in the 1st year then shifted in C.S. but all along I want to have in Astrophysics, Applied Physics or Applied Science. can I still get that before 2012?

  • I think the exact same way about the "more domestic jobs"

  • can't believe my college is next to leicester uni trust me university of leicester has a very crap physics department they have very old equipments and good chemistry department kindda biased i suppose whYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • Nice interview !

    Astronomy is realy interesting !

  • He's where i wanna be in 4 years time ;)

  • me too. im 14 though so it would be 10 years for me!

  • Chase the dream, not the competition my friend ;) You'll do wonderfully :)

  • aslong as you take intrest in that youll be good at it i never took intrest in geography but i did in history but i did better in history then i took intrest in geography and i did better.

  • I liked his honesty.

  • Very inspiring!

  • Awsome interview. Love it! Keep up the good work!

  • I'd love to live in space... well in space on a ship, not on a planet in space.

  • I've the same problem. Started working in IT and soon realized that doing the same programming over and over isn't really satisfying. I've got to do new things every day, things that nobody else did before. Therefore I'm trying to get a research job (preferably at a university). You don't research the same thing twice. About time after I started my second study (finished a MSc in Compunter Sc, now doing Material Sc).

btw: don't make the interviewee stare into the sun all the time ;-)

  • how awesome is this interview. Kepp up the good work!

  • Choose a career because it is what you really want to do I think is good advice. Good video. (The lack of higher level positions for scientists can however really get you down.)
