How was that as a DD? I'm thinking of putting in those gears but I'm unsure of if I was going to mainly DD the car and occasionally go to the strip? I'm a fan of the wining noise and the clutchless upshifts :)
subaru trannys are real weak sti tranny or not the still have glass for gears and they arnt to good for circuit racing where you dive from high gears to low. its almost a much for the strict track car to use a dogbox or a new gearset with stronger gears 6 speed or 5 and to the people who say a sti 6 speed can hold 600hp...bullshit see gears for sti break at 400
do you speak english? first, you couldnt be more WRONG. The STi is extremely strong. Mine held 592whp as well as 200+ dragstrip pass's. My oem STi tranny never broke, never had any problems. I simply upgraded to the dogbox because the gears are taller, and the clutchless shifting lowers ET's at the dragstrip. the wrx tranny's are fairly weak, but the STi tranny is solid.

i am only like on my third tranny(6spd). you must be talking about running the 6sp swap for the wrx non-sti. than you can abuse it all day cause you only make like 220 to the wheels but those of us that are making 500+ cmon man you fucking sound stupid
the six speed is a Bad ass gearbox for a STOCK to MILD STi. but if you are expecting to make some HP plan on upgrading

Subaru 5 speeds are weak. subaru 6 speed are NOT. Due to the overall tooth profile and the general size of the bastard. you would break a driveshaft or diff before a 6 speed. i know one person who has broken a 6 speed. and it wasnt the gearset. it was the selector fork.
@Burnin4 Why are 5th and 6th helical? Is it so you can cruise along in normal driving for hours (like on a freeway) without going deaf or some other reason?
both. i spend a lot of time at the drag strip, currently in the top 3 fastest sti's in the US (outside of Puerto Rico). my next trip to the dragstrip I should make the fastest pass in the country.
cool, congrats man! i guess by the time you go through the trap you're in 4th and don't need the straight cut gears on 5th. have someone videotape your fastest pass so we can all enjoy it, best of luck on your record pass run!
