On Friday, Oct. 21, nearly 90 employees and truck drivers for Sports Associated Inc. of Kansas City, KS, received the unexpected news that the company was shutting its doors that day. At least 44 drivers were still trying to get home late Friday

Without getting into politics, this had less to do with stimulus money or lack thereof, and more to do with the owner, who inherited the business, and his lack of business skills. But yes, they do deserve to be compensated for lack of income and other expenses they are out due to the CEO's screw-up.

The company is back on line and it said somewhere ( can't remember where) but they said something about negotiations are taking place with if I'm not mistaken, either John Cristner Trucking as well as Melton Truck Lines. They also said they are only hiring O/O drivers until they can get the money to buy back a few hundred of company freightliners and KW

Yes very much so a Satan Trucking Company, that is why my step dad left those sorry assholes 4 years ago and now has his own trucking with a matching color trailer the same color as his truck and gets all his loads direct. He is an independent driver an hauls some of the local farms loads of produce, flowers etc from the west coast out to the midwest and up north and to the rockies states such as Idaho and Montana.

Hi, Im not a trucker but I feal for all those hard working drivers. Hope all trucking companys make it a priority to hire a arrow trucker 1st. Without those truckers with any company we got nothing.
The credit rating of that company was one of the lowest in the industry for the past 9 months. Wasn't the stimulus package meant to help companies like Arrow who had revenue streams but no credit to obtain money? Why has every industry got money from the package except ground transportation? 2500 companies ranging from 5 to 2500 trucks have went under since Dec 2007. Most were 5-10 trucks but Jevic, Arrow, and soon Gainey were big.
I have a CDL and over four year OTR but haven't driven since Aug 2008 when a company I worked for went under. I have been working in a call center because there are no jobs worth driving right now. 1800-2000 miles a week going east coast for 30-33 cpm is the best I can find. If this "New Economy" is the norm the trucking Industry needs to lose another 150,000 trucks to be profitable now.
just think of what this is going to do to freightliner. There must be at least 1000 trucks out there for them. a 100,000 a piece, that is a lot of money on a default.
Nothing could be more devistating to a Co. driver just 2 days before christmas, what kind of person does this to the very backbone of a co. Whether its the lack of communication or respect toward the driver that made them money,

I run for Melton, and Ill let the youtube world know this...when Bob Peterson found out about this happening, and all the drivers being stranded with no way to get home for Christmas. Bob Peterson (Owner of Melton Truck Lines) authorized any Melton driver to give arrow drivers rides home for Christmas. Thats one thing I will say about Melton...with Bob Peterson...Drivers come first....they will let a Driver Manager go before they let a driver go. Arrow in the ass trucking!

I lost my job suddenly in 1991. My employer pulled my job out from under me, 3 months after I had bought my home. When I read the news articles and watched video clips about Arrow Trucking pulling the trucks out from under their drivers the way they did, with no warning, I was not surprised. I remembered my own experience. This seems to be the way businesses treat their workers in America nowadays.
I found work in 10 days, but it paid poorly and my parents had to help me out so I would not lose the house. I realized that, in order to survive, I would have to become self-employed. I was not ready for it, but I became self-employed in 1994.
After Sept of 2009, there does not seem to be much difference between self employment versus unemployment.
btw. the same thing happened to me in 1988, so the 91 loss was the 2nd time. It is a ruthless way to treat people.

no worries .. you're just expressing your relief that for now you have a job. Anyone should understand that. Often times it's more stressfull to see others lose their jobs, and you're still working. It's called survivor's remourse. I had it earlier this year when 500 of my co-workers were let go. A week later I was in the hospital with chest pains. Turned out to be stress/panick.
Stay healthy, take care of yourself, and do what you can for those you can.
And whats going to happen to all these trucks? Last I checked, companies werent buying em used. I guess that means theyre gonna start getting real cheap. Hopefully some of the drivers can afford to buy em and become independents, then turn around, make a decent living and laugh in the face of the company that betrayed them.
This also happened to Brown Transport, CF,( 5000 drivers) and a lot of others I have seen in 34 yrs on the road. The driver is expendable. Back pay comes after the big bills get paid.

We worked for Arrow twice, once B4 Old man Died and as recent as 14 months ago. 700 miles a day to delivery then SIT 2-3 Days. There have been MANY companies were started by a trucker w/ 1 truck and eventually became large and profitable.then the old man retires or dies and leaves the company to his kids(who have never been in a truck).over time they slowly run it in the ground until they finally go belly up..

Nothing could be more devistating to a Co. driver just 2 days before christmas, what kind of person does this to the very backbone of a co. Whether its the lack of communication or respect toward the driver that made them money,

What a fucking shame! I run for Melton, and Ill let the youtube world know this...when Bob Peterson found out about this happening, and all the drivers being stranded with no way to get home for Christmas. Bob Peterson (Owner of Melton Truck Lines) authorized any Melton driver to give arrow drivers rides home for Christmas. Thats one thing I will say about Melton...with Bob Peterson...Drivers come first....they will let a Driver Manager go before they let a driver go. Arrow in the ass trucking!

Thank GOD there was no emergency situation out there, and that no driver LOST HIS/HER LIFE because of the callous, inhumane and unfeeling actions of the CEO's of thie company. I am still furious over what has happened, and sometimes violence is the only way to rid the planet of the cockroaches that ran Arrow. I hate them now.

I was working for a toyota fork lift company in knoxville tn, I was a road guy they call me on the cell and tell me to come to the shop they have work for me there, when i get there they layed me off damn i was pissed but they gave me a ride home. Companies dont care about their workers it doesnt matter how hard you work for them your nothing but a number.

Not that the U.S. is all that, just because the way the U.S.'s money is tied into the world economic situation. There would in the end, be a resetting of the whole worlds governments. In the beginning, Corporations were formed as temporary entities for the creation of stuff, such as bridges, roads, etc.. It was after the 14th amendment was passed that they were given status as "persons". I lost my job suddenly in 1991. My employer pulled my job out from under me, 3 months after I had bought my home. When I read the news articles and watched video clips about Arrow Trucking pulling the trucks out from under their drivers the way they did, with no warning, I was not surprised. I remembered my own experience. This seems to be the way businesses treat their workers in America nowadays.

I found work in 10 days, but it paid poorly and my parents had to help me out so I would not lose the house. I realized that, in order to survive, I would have to become self-employed. I was not ready for it, but I became self-employed in 1994.
After Sept of 2009, there does not seem to be much difference between self employment versus unemployment.
btw. the same thing happened to me in 1988, so the 91 loss was the 2nd time. It is a ruthless way to treat people.

no worries .. you're just expressing your relief that for now you have a job. Anyone should understand that. Often times it's more stressfull to see others lose their jobs, and you're still working. It's called survivor's remourse. I had it earlier this year when 500 of my co-workers were let go. A week later I was in the hospital with chest pains. Turned out to be stress/panick.
Stay healthy, take care of yourself, and do what you can for those you can.

Hopefully some of the drivers can afford to buy em and become independents, then turn around, make a decent living and laugh in the face of the company that betrayed them.

This also happened to Brown Transport, CF,( 5000 drivers) and a lot of others I have seen in 34 yrs on the road. The driver is expendable. Back pay comes after the big bills get paid.

Is it the drivers fault that 100 trucks sat in the Tulsa yard daily? Are we as drivers supposed to find our own loads? We worked for Arrow twice, once B4 Old man Died and as recent as 14 months ago. 700 miles a day to delivery then SIT 2-3 Days. You must be one of the smart ass dispatchers that always said WAIT in ur truck! If operations were doing their jobs Arrow would still be running like always. If Sonny boy had gotten his X-box taken away sooner this might have been avoided.

@southernraven1969 they are going to make it hard for us to get unemployment because they are not saying they are closed. Luckily Trucking companies are standing up and hiring lots of the workers. My husband starts a new job monday after 6 years at Arrow.

There have been MANY companies were started by a trucker w/ 1 truck and eventually became large and profitable.then the old man retires or dies and leaves the company to his kids(who have never been in a truck).over time they slowly run it in the ground until they finally go belly up..

Good video ! After 29 yrs in truckin' nothing surprises me anymore..One thing is for certain,when a company goes belly up the drivers will be the LAST ones to find out.... Hey JM great vid, and thanks. I just found out about this, and am in shock. I've just spent the better part of an hour talking to news reporters down here in SC about this. Nobody is picking up this story nationwide. Just goes to show news that affects the trucking industry isn't worthy of reporting unless it involves death and accidents.
