Most marines love it and say it is one of ht e most accurate portrayals of the USMC ever depicted- while at the same time being an anti-war mini-series. The last scene in this mini-series sums it all up well

Most marines love it and say it is one of ht e most accurate portrayals of the USMC ever depicted- while at the same time being an anti-war mini-series. Most people can gather round this table and agree it is a series worth watching, this scene however shows the marines in their more immature phase before war has begun and the reality of the war has hit them. The last scene in this mini-series sums it all up well

@muetter the first time i watched this series, i thought it was anti-war, too. watch it again. when you start thinking like a recon marine and understand that these guys didnt have all the information they needed, but they went in and kicked ass, and hardly lost anyone..you realize that this series is very pro armed forced and depicts how they were able to accomplish the impossible with no NVGs, no batteries, no intel, no defined enemy, and no food...for starters.

Nevertheless, the ferocity cultivated within military units has a serious purpose; to raise the morale of their men, to suppress any qualms their own troops may have with regard to killing in battle, and to engender an offensive spirit. These attitudes are important to creating capable soldiers, although other armies have different ways of achieving the same end.
