  • Oh how I miss GMC products. Long live these buses in the hearts and spirit of those who loved and appreciated them. What I loved is just about all of the private lines did not modify or alter these buses when they left the factory like many other cities did. Sooooo many memories in my 28 years alive riding Green Bus & Jamaica Bus Lines.

  • @LetMrAL1 They did alter their Paint Schemes to these buses though. The Jamaica Buses RTS-04's used to have a Brownish-red stripe on white. They really never changed the engines or anything like that. The only PBL RTS I can think of that has been repowered is Green Bus Lines 1012 (1979 GMC RTS-03). It has been repowered to 6v92 from 8v71. Green Lines altered all their 1979 slant back RTS-03's with a retrofit square back A/C.

  • I just hate MTA Bus hybrid orions OG and NG. The old 1985 RTS's win over any newer bus MTA has besides Orion V's.

  • I used to love making the 6v92 sound or whatever engine Green Lines and Jamaica Buses RTS's had when I was 5.

  • The only Jamaica Buses route I've been on before the takeover was the Q112 and after takeover I went on the Q110 once. I loved JBI's GMC RTS's.

  • Brings back some good times at JBL!

  • Well dammit!!! This is how you drive a bus!

  • MTA GMC RTS T8J-204 #1120,Ex-JBLs #511 SCRAP

  • Dagg i miss that sound on them RTS, nice rotation they had, we have Gillig's now

  • This thing reminds me of Flyer D901s in San Francisco and Chicago back in days right before retired.

  • HOLY SHIT!!! Somebody was driving the Shit out of this bus!!

  • this is a classic LONG LIVE GREEN LINES (expecially on the Q40, Q6 and Q7)

  • Man I love the sound this bus. This sounds just like the 6V92 Flxible Metros. Quadruple the 5 stars!!!

  • Damn bus ran like you wouldn't believe!!! LOVE IT!

  • to answer enyoriginals questions about the 2 mci classics from cttransit: norwalk has mci classic no 9166 which is 166 and the other 9158 which is in new britain ct

  • I've just recently saw one of these buses running in Forest Hills. And from time to time I still get on one with the outside detailed to match the blue/white MTA design, but the interior is still that of these old buses with the brown/tan/whatever else color scheme.

  • Those are different, those are from 1994 and have different specifications

  • I miss this sound, boy!!!! I used to have 2 ride the Q113 all the way from Mott Ave. in Far Rock to go to August Martin High back in '01-02. Classic! Good video.

  • I only rode this type of bus once...

And they sound so much cooler with a louder whine, which is more easily heard from outside...

  • man you have no idea what you missed. You think the buses now are good? This will blow a Nova out the water!!!!

  • Sound kind of like the Baltimore Flxibles 1992 and before.

  • 6V92TA/V730

  • Nice sound - just wish we had video to go with it...

  • If anybody can remember when green line was green line? Have you ever been on bus 650, 639, 636, 634, 629, 619, 611, 604-608, 621, 658, 659 and there were a few others. I don't know what mta renumbered them to after the takeover but those buses right there were running right. And in the summer time the ac in these things were awesome.

  • never noticed that...but i think my mind is refreshing from what you just said right now...oh those were the times..is not the same anymore after the MTA took over the private buses of NYC...before 2005 NYC was at its best...with retro buses running throughout the outer areas of Midtown

  • Yeah those were the days. I miss them so much.

  • What model?

  • The GMC RTS's. What else was that good?

  • Well IMO the TMCs, Classics, any bus pre the year 2000.

  • Right after 8:35, big ass bumps!!!!

  • I wish these buses were still in service just for that transmission. Strongest buses ever made (besides the Blitz)

  • Homeboy was messin with it hard. Thats what I'm talkin about!!!! Great recording.

  • The best damn RTS' were in GReen Line and Command. Remember that Those two companies were swapping off buses to each other. Those were the best ones. That driver was tearin that shit up!!!! Those are the only buses were you can hit a pot hole and never bottom out. All of ya'll know that!!!! And that bus had turbochargers in it.

  • after 4:45...i don't like it since those teenagers were screaming...what happend my friend

  • take that noise and multiply it by ten and you have the sounds of a bus ride after school lets out! That was and still is the worst time to get on a bus.

  • U aint lyin either!!

  • That would be the Q33's last stop. near astoria blvd around 87th or so?

  • Triboro coach corp. and Jamaica Buses inc.

have nearly the same colours don't you think

  • they almost did

  • I swear...THIS IS INHUMANE! Talk about bus sex out this motherfucker! LMAO!

Big ups to the driver for sexin' that shit UP! You don't want me drivin' no damn RTS!

  • i cant hear the turbo charger... this one wasnt turbo charged, was it? it must be one of the earlier rts models.....very old.but still moderately desireable

  • They never had turbochargers. The only model buses that had a 6v92TA to a V730/731 with a turbocharger? Go to NJ and find those 1988-89 Flxible Metro-Bs. They got 'em.

Other models to have 'em? Same damn package with turbocharger? There are 2 MCI Classics left in Connecticut! One is Norwalk Transit District's ex-CT Transit 1991 MCI Classic #166 and one of the same year that CT Transit (New Britain Division, formerly from New Haven) has labeled 91xx (forgot the last 2 digits).

  • thanx. that narrowed my bus search down quite a bit.

  • Wrong... it's the soundproofing that drowns out the full-bodied tone of the engine.

This bus actually at first belonged to Triboro Coach Corporation along with #1191. It is so turbocharged.

  • if there was an Bus 1120 on a paper RTS Bus, Check it out the Hot Colors to the Paper bus I customized. It's a tribute to the new movie called "SEMI PRO" Check it out. go to yahoo groups and check out my yahoo group page called Bus Pictures. Check it out, you will love it. the Paper Bus thet looks like the RTS Bus. It is Hot!

  • I want 9007 of Long Beach Transit

  • Most of the leftover refurbished RTSes from the Mid 90's are used on the South Shore, not in Boston. All you see in Boston is the new CNG buses.

  • Those New Flyers diesel buses are also around up there too.

  • i think maybe in Providence there are rts gmc buses right

  • They did have some NY-MTA throwbacks...they may still be in service seeing that they still have their 1992 TMC RTS's roaming around.

  • I believe Providence's oldest RTSes they currently have now are 1992 TMC RTSes, maybe few 1990 models too.

  • Bro I think I remember being on this bus the same time you got this recording - man this baby sounded good!

  • That was good times Man

  • man how i miss the jamaica buses inc they had the best sounds along with the green lines triboro coach and queens surface

  • don't forget command!

  • I have a vid of a very old RTS-06 on my channel. It has no rear destination sign and its repainted. Unfortunately its a very different engine than this. If anyone can see it and tell me what company made it (ex: GMC, TMC, Nova) that would be very appreciated.

And btw, these audio vids you put up are awesome. Too bad all these are retired.

  • Oh, btw, can you record the 8V71 powered RTS at the Boston Crystal Transport next time if you can find it?

  • I want the Sound Clip of the RTS of Bus 1120, It's so Strong and awesome.

  • WOOOOOOW! I've never experience an RTS going beserk like that. Ah, GMCs with the old combo package. I love this stuff man. Keep the oldies coming man because 5 years from now we will hear nothing but silence from our local buses. DAMN, I miss the late mid 80s up into the late 90s. Those were the good old days of bus sounds baby, but from my time that is.

  • HE'd be Really lucky if he could get one form 1981.

  • Mee too, I love the GMC/TMC RTSes from the

80s/late 90s better than those creepy Low Floors.

  • the future dont have taste in COOL bus sounds and i think by the time im an old man the bus sounds will be even MORE boring like maybe they wont have any sound at all

  • Some don't have sound at all NOW!

  • Wow, this is a sick video. I rode my last GMC RTS (5839) back in February, which I recorded yet I just can't remember the experience of being on one of these with the old 92. I miss these times. Classics I remember easily, but these with the V730 are really great too.

  • i miss these buses so much.too bad mta bus retired these buses as well as mta nycta

  • yo the future is wack cause we gonna hear uncool bus sounds as you can see the new buses we have now is more silently and boring

  • I agree with you. My city replaced all of the 6V92TA/V731 powered New Flyer D40HF buses with crappy Cummins powered New Flyer D40LF buses in August of 2005.

  • They new wack buses are horrible. It's bad enough I have to go to other states to find diesel buses to recorder. I rather have a old bus than this nonsense that NYCTA & MTA Bus has.

  • That's what I was thinking about it too!

  • You wanna go back to the 80s and 90s generation of buses? lol

  • Everyone was certainly happy on the RTS bus.

  • yo i live here in NYC but these bus sounds dont pass around my block so sad....love this bus sound

  • They dont pass thru anywhere in NYC anymore. All of these are retired.

  • yo that sucks...retiring cool bussounds rather than boring dull sounds like those new hybrid buses

  • Its just cause of the exhaust, although they could just change the engines, but these are like at least 20 years old so I guess they just didnt bother.

  • What these older buses need is biodiesel fuel.

  • Thank you. Love it.

  • It's just very sad that you're gonna miss the 6V92 powered GMC RTS's. My city used to have the 8V71 powered RTS's before they were retired between 1997 and 1998. Right now, my city still has the 1995, 1997, and 2001 NovaBus RTS's active, but some of the 1995 models are slowly being retired. My city also has the 2004 and 2005 New Flyer D40LF buses. Btw, have you ever rode on the 8V71 powered RTs's before?

  • Yes up in Boston Crystal transport.

  • I agree with you.:( Btw, my suburban transit buses also used to have the 1990's and the 1993's 6V92 powered buses, but the 1990's were retired probably in 2001 and the 1993's model was also retired in 2004, including the NovaBus RTS's and the Gillig Phantoms. Now, my suburban buses only has Gillig Low Floor buses. Btw, is one of the 8V71 powered RTS's still active at the Boston Crystal transport or they were retired?

  • I was up in Boston with my friends from NYC. We went on a Saturday. The only thing the T was running were the New Flyers new Diesel buses all over. I told to my friends, you have to go to Boston during the week to catch the RTS that are still alive.

  • Im on my way to Boston too to catch their Sexy RTS buses, most of them have been rehabbed and will be around until about 2013 or near 20 years of their age, they are 1994-1995 Nova RTS model.
