Until electric Christmas tree lights became common in the 1920s, people lighted actual candles on indoor Christmas trees - which as we can see here, was insanely stupid.
Here's a thought for the tree hunger. Trees existed whilebthe dinosaurs roamed the earth right? An asteroid took out all that. The tree made a magical reappearance, yet we're worried about it still as though we can do worse than a FREAKIN ASTEROID?!!!? Rofl, i laugh in your face!!!
Why can't it just say people and property? Do they have to throw "the planet" in there too?! Earth's been here a very long time, its been through far worse than the disappearing of the tree.
I used to go round and round with my sister about live trees. I told her that wether you live or die depends on which side of the tree you are on. If you are by the door, you will make it out. Otherwise, forget it. And she had three little girls at the time. I live on a few acres out in the county. Several years ago, I burned a christmas tree for her. I think she gets it now. Thanks for posting such valuable info. Merry Christmas to all From Texas!
Probably because this was a simulated burn, whose purpose was to educate viewers on the importance of fire safety, especially around the Christmas tree.
as a firefighter we see this all to often, also there was no working smoke dectector in that room, be sure to change your batteries when the time changes.SMOKE DECTECTOR'S SAVE LIVES. one moe thing that is becomming popular is residental sprinkler systems. IF you find your self in that situation stay low and GET OUT.

@hebneh I can remember that, as a kid. Even then, I thought it was a very unwise idea.

I told you idiots those tiny, ornamental fuel cans were a bad idea!

@Spentbrass The problem is that Christmas trees that are not heavily watered ignite much easier and faster.

The real lessons here are
- if someone walks into your house in a yellow hat, don't let them light a fire under your tree
- if they do light a fire under your tree, ask the camera crew in your living room to help you move the chair that you like best
- always wrap crappy gifts before Christmas eve, and swap them with real ones on Christmas eve, unless you bought fire insurance for each gift
- always have a firefighter and a hose in the living room, just in case

wouldnt it be safer to just not light the tree on fire?
