The anti-skating adjustment is normally set to the same number as your tracking force. So if you're using a tracking force of 1.5 grams, you should also set the anti-skating adjustment to 1.5.
The direct-drive turntable's platter is thicker and heavier because it helps to absorb the vibration of the motor, which gets directly transmitted into the platter. On the belt-drive model, the belt absorbs the vibration of the motor, so the platter doesn't need to be as heavy.
LOL "shouldn't be legally sold" I like it. I wouldn't put a record of mine on one of those "convert your vinyl to mp3" products - they sound like shit and probably carve up the records too.
@bbishoppcm I forgot to add, set the scale on the platter when reading tracking force and make sure your turntable is switched off! I know it sounds redundant but mine has taken a few flings onto the floor via centrifugal force, from me forgetting about the table being semi-auto!
@bbishoppcm look up youtuber ellaskins video about setting anti skate with a single sided LP, lots of these older turntable's anti-skate mechanisms are inaccurate, setting it with a groove-less smooth LP is the best way.
Basically set the stylus down in the middle of it with it spinning and adjust till it tracks straight and doesn't deviate in or out. As for finding a single sided LP? Check ebay or go crate digging at local used record or thrift stores.
@bbishoppcm get a cheap 0-100gram digital scale from ebay set the stylus on it once zeroed to read the exact tracking force, set the anti skate to the same as the tracking force, I would find out what the gram specs for the installed cartridge are and adjust accordingly. Like if it says 1.5-2.0 adjust to about 1.7. Best method for adjusting anti skate is a single sided LP, I have a copy of the village people's YMCA single just for that purpose (and i like the song!)
@bbishoppcm And now for the creepiest reply...... *Whispers* Do you ever use Linux? or is it only Windows and Apple? *shhhhhh* It's okay to try new things.
Blue train. Nice.

I wish I had a turntable in my childhood...but my parents were using cassette and CD in that time.
