I think some people are getting confused because the anime was originally aired anachronistically. While watching the anime, you're *supposed* to be going through the story backwards.

So you guys just need to make sure you're watching the anime in the order it was originally broadcast (if you want to get the full experience). The first episode you should watch is "Cherry Blossom / Sakura", followed by "Song / Uta", then "Sword / Ken", etc.
