I don't understand why people want old games to be re-released on Xbox Live. Just buy the damn game and the old system it's for, like everyone else. There's a reason the DC version exists: TO BE PLAYED. I also think it's kinda sad that some people rely on extra credits to beat the game. I spent all afternoon today figuring out how to score high enough to select your border, how score effects rank, etc and had an immense amount of fun doing so.
This may be coming to xbla, the president of g-rev said the company is thinking about re-releasing border down in a recent interview, the company website has been flooded with thousands of emails already asking for a release date,do your part and tell g rev we want border down on xbla.
my only complaint is that the game needs to tell you how many hours you have into it. I may be the first person on the internet to confirm that the game even goes to 9 credits (try finding any information on unlocking more credits for this game, gamefaqs has nothing, google has nothing) and nobody knows how long it takes because nobody sits there with a stopwatch to add up their hours upon hours of getting ass whooped on border down.
anyway. it goes up to 9 crdits so far. after many many hours.
the border down system is simple. the solar defense force sends 3 remote controlled ships on a mission. each of the 3 ships has a slightly different path to the boss, and even the boss fight can be different depending on what "border level" you are on.
also the credits jump from 3 to 6 after so many hours of gametime, then from 6 to 9. this just happened for me the other day and i finally beat the game on normal with 9 available credits. I imagine that freeplay comes next.
this is neat game but its almost impossible...i also think they tried to do to much with the bordering down system...if they would of concentrated there efforts more on the game than adding more elements i think this could of been an awesome game...not saying that its a bad game it isnt
I personally find it almost impossible - I reach a certain plateau (spelling?) and can't get any further even with continues. I'm also like that with Mars Matrix, Gradius V and Ikaruga *shame*. Also most CAVE games I can't 1 do on one credit, still, thats the challenge - you can always go furthur with practise.. I enjoy the score chasing of CAVE games.
LOL - If you speak of xoxak review, they are a parody. Shooters are not held in high esteem these days so Rob uses toung in cheek humor in his reviews. He is also from Alaska and is portraying a stereotype that people in Alaska are dumb xoxak is a high level skilled player and won the Gradius V contest in the US.
Man, this game looks soo cool!
I can tell the music is going to be amazing too!

When you credit feed, all of those things are ignored, and it degrades the experience.

@wmotamedi Second hand Gamecube Ikaruga: £26, XBLA: £8.25. I won't go into all the details on why the XBLA copy is better, either. Common sense mate

@wmotamedi Because its easier and cheaper to obtain for starters, despite the HD reason

Funny how the DC version does not have the flock of birds flying around in the beginning of stage 1 like in the arcade version.

I know. Even something as little as that really bothered me. I hope they release it again sometime with the birds.

Quality vid! Unlike the redneck shit I just encountered, listening to some asshole give his play-by-play about this AWESOME "16-BIT" game.
Anyway, LOVE the music! Sounds Japanese...
