  • Hate=greed.

  • Yep I remember singing this with my mom as a kid. She liked to whistle to it.

  • im in my 20s so this is way old for me but my dad would always play this in the car

  • "Creeque Alley is in Charlotte Amalie, and this song is a biographical song about how they ended up in Creeque Alley, St.Thomas,V.I. They played at Duffy's, the same place the future Vanilla Fudge played, in the year 1966. Duffy was a character, his 'dive" was on 2nd floor, so was a climb to a discrete door--- small stage/dance floor/about 10 tables and a looong bar--and rooms for bands or "whatever":) When USN was in there was blood in the alleys--3 killed one night--i know, i was there:)"

  • I am 15. I love their music! =D I'm into all the old music and I really don't care what people think! These were the days when music wasn't arrogant and sexual all the time!

  • cass brought me here haha

  • how in the world can dubstep bring you to the mamas and papas?

  • Very White Stripes-ish

  • @pucksterz12 More like White Stripes was influenced by this. The Mama and the Papas were famous quite awhile earlier.

  • @nkvictory Thank you for clarfiying my attempt at not stating the obvious.

  • I just realized...this song is about mama cass being overweight...

  • @zZCosmicEnergyZz

No it's not about Mama Cass being overweight. For the full story see creequealleyDotcom.

  • what the fuck is a thumb anyway ?

  • I remember listening to this song when I was little :) No idea why I just thought about searching for it now...

  • Great to sing to. I think if more people sang, at least once a day, the world would be a nicer place to live on.

  • @sauroid1 -But if they sang twice it would be a utopia ;]

  • '63, but u were in the happene'ns,.in those year's 15, before me.. wasit? Luv ;)

  • Couldn't get no higher but that is what they were aiming at.........been there and done that. The 70's were like no other and the memories will last forever!

  • Very White Stripes-ish, or the other way around.

  • it is Joan not john....

  • @Jinkzed sounds like Joan but it's John

  • @Jinkzed Sorry...no...it's 'John' as in Papa John!

  • mugwumps was actually a band... that some of the members where in

  • "And California dreamin' is becoming a reality..."

    Love that line.

  • It's love bumps...because Cass was in love with Denny, and in fact asked him to marry her. He was so high he didn't even remember it.

  • wow guys this song plays on "monterey pop festival" movie i watched, so sick def check it out amazing event/festival of 67

  • I know it probably doesn't make any sense, but it sounds like Joan and Mitchie at the beginning and not John and Mitchie 0:17

  • @tubiebrother It's John and Michie though because this is basically the whole story of how the Mamas and The Papas got together and how they became famous. Also the line is Denty met Cass and gave a long pause.

  • @VelvetCyberpunk I know that it is supposed to be John and Mitchie. I know it's the story. But it doesn't sound like that at all. It's sounds like "Joan" and Mitchie. My cd is even clearer so it sounds even more like "Joan" on that. The line when denny met cass he gave her love bumps is correct. i can hear that very clearly. I always knew that's what they were singing even before I saw the lyrics ever. And long pause doesn't rhyme with mugwumps. That wouldn't work at all. They are better than that.

  • Just looking at news about Protestors at Wall Street and instantly I was taken back to the mid 60's. For too many years, I 've been blind to the Masters controlling us. The Youth of the 60's knew it just like these Protestors on Wall Street. My grandparents and parents listened to the Mamas and Papas and complained about 'dirty hippies.' But they didn't listen to the music of freedom that was being sung. They didn't understand their own slavery and that to which they were subjecting us kids

  • @jeff62rey i agree with you...very reminiscent of the 60's!!

  • I thought Jim, Zal, Cass and Denny were the Mugwumps.. why do they sing called John and Zal?

  • i could listen to them all day!

  • I used to think, when I was little, that they said, "And no one's getting fat except mama cats". Lol

  • haha my parents have to be hippies

  • Greatest song!!!!

  • walking to the package store a local classic rock station played this I was enraptured

  • Always dug the beat. Was chums w/ Denny for a time.

    Thanks!

    Jon (goneglobal35com)

  • Want some 60's style mucking fagic today? Go to San Francisco, old LA, or even Rapid City...

  • i hope im not the only 20yrold that know tmatp and peter paul and marry lol

  • @lizardboy1991 nah I'm with ya :D Everyone thought I was a weirdo when I was 13 in the 00's and my favorite music was Simon & Garunkel. there's just a lot of fantastic music from that generation But just keep in mind there's some great music from our generation as well, you just have to look for it! :)

  • John and Mitchie, were gettin kinda itchy

to leave the folk music behind ...

  • @estyle40 your an idiot

  • @hotmn4u Truth hurts, don`t it?

  • Thanks for posting this, much appreciated

  • My wife loves this song!!!

  • This song always really catches me!

  • Yes, I know that the Mamas & Papas were waaaaaay before my time. Buut, as a kid, this is what i loved hearing in the car/house during roadtrips/cleaning days. It's a wonderful memory to have of my dad who no longer wants a part of my life. Buut, when i hear our favorite old timey songs, it makes me think of how great the good old days were between the two of us<3

  • This song get's one thing absolutely correct... Asians really can't be trusted.

  • Concerning the Denny-Michelle adultery, SURE John Phillips was always faithful ....Right!

  • Sorry the version (with comments) is gone. This one still has the whole history and Cass enjoyed it as much as the others. Just great with the choice of jazz flute solo and great production. I wish more folks knew the history of the era. Michelle's book and ones by others chronicle those days. Thanks for all the work!

  • A very memorable song!!

  • Just the music makes me want to go back and be a hippie again. No shoes, tie died T shirt, bell bottoms, and few cold beers. Dancing in the gym and having the fun of our lives. Where did we all turn wrong to get rid of the songs and tunes that made rock famous. Would love to go back and start over! I would get it right this time

  • @hotstuffandicecream thats one thing that won't happen no matter how bad we want it my friend...but it is fun thinking about it ain't it.

  • the lyrics are brilliant, just like the song

  • After all these years, I thought the line went, "...and after every number, they passed out." lol Thanx! I learned something today! :-)

  • Why does this post have so many more views than the one with actual video !?

  • @metemi Because there are a lot of unfamiliar places and names in the song, especially for people who don't know or remember a lot about the 60's?

  • @mfeltes the song is about how they all came together

  • @Doug19752533 Yes, I know. How does what you're saying contradict what I'm saying?

  • SkyAngel1959 has good taste. :)

  • This is a song about how the band formed and if you listen closely they mention some other bands

  • I'm just sittin here on a Monday night drinkin Coke and listenin to oldies.

  • @Fersomling

And no better way to spend a Monday night....

  • @Fersomling why dont u snort some you might even start dancing !!

  • @andreaukok

I shan't exhaustively go into the negative effects of snorting cocaine; there is a wealth of material online on the subject, however: It is my unshakable belief that the negatives of cocaine use far outweigh any positive result therefrom.

May I convert you to Catholicism?

  • @Fersomling i was joking fersomling.

and no thanks, im an athiest and a happy one!! thanks for the offer though.

  • I'm not going to thumbs up for Doctor P because i'm not an attention whore.

  • @MacadamiaNuttt lol that didn't go to well did it

  • @MacadamiaNuttt Triple thumbs up for you, my friend.

  • thumbs up if Doctor P brought you here!

  • @HybrdM0m3nts who the fuck is dr. P or should I care

  • @HybrdM0m3nts and?

  • LOVE THIS SONG THANKS FOR POSTING

  • Maybe my fave of their tunes, luv the voices and truthful lyrics. For background, at least 4 books (2 by them) on the evolution of the group. John's musical ear and Cass' voice were the strength of the group. Sad it was break up shake up and it lasted but a short time. Toast to their memory and help make this a better, fairer world. Life is so short.

  • I never realized how cynical this song was when I listened to it when I wasn't as musically literate as I am today. It sounded folksy when I was younger, but now I'm rather surprised at the "everyone's getting fat but us" message in the lyrics.

  • The Celts will get you; it's McGuinn and McGuire; capital letters after Mc or Mac names.

  • Brilliant tune! Caught it on janice forsyth show, bbc radio scotland at weekend. Can't stop playin it!

  • This is a great song and I love it.

  • The night owl was the size of a postage stamp. maybe 100' by 25'. the stage was the size of a dresser.

  • Didn't know the name of this song, just typed in "And no one's getting fat except Mama Cass" in Google and found out. Made my eyes water because the rhymes, the voices, the music, just the whole song is so super freakin' cool! As are a lot of their other songs!!

  • cass can't make it, she says we'll have to fake it..we knew she'd come eventually...:0) got past the censors...

  • My childhood song...Know it by heart.

  • Esto es una lección de armonía...

    Espectacular y Gracias a ti Patty 1947

    Un beso desde Lima Perú

    Oswaldo

  • This song pretty well establishes the Lovin Spoonful connection back in old NY.

This group had such appeal. I mean even my dear old grandmother used to dig watching them.

  • john was a DISTURBED genious!

  • @kfag101 most genuises r lol

  • @hotmn4u true dat- beethoven

  • @kfag101 LOL among countless others

  • Who in the heck are the losers who dislike this song.Losers!

  • LOVE it! Thank you for posting this.

  • Great job on the lyrics! Thank you!

  • Visited the Haight-Ashbury in 68. Took a facination with a young blonde drinking a Coke with a very fat girl. Both looking very hip, and not interested in two short haired sailors on liberty. They ignored us when we invited ourselves to sit with them. The big one made this gross sound with her straw at the bottom of her drink. Then they left..They looked like celebrties and I still wonder if.......

  • @docambra I doubt it. I lived there. Never saw them. I did run into the Grateful Dead. But they lived there. (No no, I wasn't tuned in, turned on, or dropped out. I was a university student living in a frat house.)

  • this is my frist time hearing this song and i have to say GREAT SONG.

  • One of my guilty pleasures. Cass Elliot had one of the most beautiful voices of all time. She literally sang like an angel.

  • #108 best song of the 60s mamas and the papas creeque alley

  • Thankyou for telling us there was *music* at 2:32, we would never have known otherwise.

  • @QueenReigns1 LOLOL

  • Absolute Class! I am so grateful that my Mum has such great taste in music and introduced me to M&P at a young age. Nothing better than driving on a summer's day blasting their greatest hits out of the window (which I do often!)

  • I love the story being told with this song....highly underrated song and group froom the 1960s!

  • i will come with you amigo

  • Fuck Bieber!

  • @mikiel2323 LOL Thanks!

  • I heard this song for the first time ever today while driving a customer's car and it was tuned to sirius radio. And I'm 44 years old, really never got into mamas and papas but this song is really good.

  • a little lesson in big names...rock wouldn´t be where it´s at without the likes of the folks mentioned in this song....look it up young'uns!

  • @punkmomlives Every once in a while, a comment deserves an "Amen." This is one of those times. :)

  • This is my absolute favourite Mamas & Papas tune. So bluesy. :-)

  • @theZblues Mine too! It's the one that makes me want to get up and dance each time I hear it.

  • I think this is the best song they ever did.

  • why is it, all the good ones die young?

  • That song was so great.

  • 13 people are FU**ed right up.

  • In the book that Michelle Phillips wrote about the group, she said that she felt horrible about the "no one's gettin fat 'cept Mama Cass" line, but that she felt better when she saw Cass singing that part louder than the rest of them. Cass was such a cool gal, and I LOVE her voice.

  • great song

  • Please comment, well thx for the lyrical background, spelling mistakes ok!

  • Tune! love this. Mamas and Papas will live on.

  • This song is extra awesome because its a story of them and their friends.

  • dig!

  • Love this!

  • @hotmn4u I know Mamma Cass's legal name was "Cass Elliot" but, all I really do care about is that Mamma Cass could sing, and she sang really good it didnt' matter what her legal name was.

  • We love you still Mama Cass.

  • Of the 30 or so of my favorite songs from The Mamas, this cut remains my favorite.

  • @SeattleLA Mine too...I love the story being told. These four were one of the best of a very musically fertile decade.

  • @stevepwood Hi. Thank you for your comment. They have so, so many great songs, so it is hard to select a favorite!
