I think we appreciate the scary aspect of Halloween more as grownups vs. kids with parents. As parents we don't want to deal with kids being scared out of their - well you get the picture.

I've been guilty of dressing my son as Thomas the tank engine. But we were going for the cute factor not scary. Forgive me :/
