In this episode Valasca becomes a god by eating ambrosia. Callisto becomes one too but later in the season/episode. Xena wasn't Ares' daughter...she just played the Furies so she wouldn't kill her "dad" and then b tormented for that too.
The original script for The Furies made it clear that Xena was Ares's daughter...explaining her supernatural powers and Ares's persistence...but Lucy Lawless and Kevin Smith objected to this because there could be no more sexual tension between X & A if incest was involved, so the script was changed to make it ambiguous. I've found that those who favor the X/G 'ship usually accept Ares as Xena's dad, but (understandably) this is rejected by X/A shippers.

this is one of my fav xena episodes! i love how velasca shoots callisto into the boulder lol. this fight scene was hot. it would've been great if velasca had returned later on in the series when gabriel was a more developed fighter like in season 5 and 6 that would've been awesome. i own all the dvds im addicted lol love xena and gabby and callisto!!

@morisblack livia was alright. the only part i liked was the fight in the temple where she broke xena's chakram. other than that i don't like how they developed her character. the fight with varia should've been eves fight not xena. they should've had her in the last episode aswell. even have it end how the show started with gabby and xena when she told xena shes not alone. have eve come around when xena died and hive her find gabby. she could've had a vision or something.

Velasca is so far my favorite evil character.
I got the complete series of Hercules: The Ledgendary Journies And Xena: Warrior Princess I'm currently almost finished with done with season 4 with hercules and then I'll start season 3 with Xena. Aphrodite is so funny!

I never understood why gods like Valesca and Callisto were unable to teleport under a pile of rocks. Escpecially in Sacrifice where Callisto was constantly teleporting from place to place but when a few rocks hit her she can't do that anymore =D

And now that we're at it, another thing bothers me too. When this scene starts Valesca goes "three heartbeats, Xena and Gabrielle brought a friend". Umm, Callisto is DEAD! How can her heart beat?

Calisto wasn't dead at the time. In Hercules, She ate the friut of life and then was sealed in the temple. So she became immortal and was restored her life energy.

When Callisto walked towards her Valaska should have known she wasn't mortal. Someone just standing there smiling away like that is clearly not what they seem. As an amazon she should have known better obviously Xena needed her help for a reason

Callisto always acted like that, even while mortal. She was always a fiery, sultry, psychopath, who stood toe to toe with anyone. Those kinds of people don't follow normal methods of behavior ;)

This episode is called "A necessary Evil".
In this episode Valasca becomes a god by eating ambrosia. Callisto becomes one too but later in the season/episode. Xena wasn't Ares' daughter...she just played the Furies so she wouldn't kill her "dad" and then b tormented for that too.

The original script for The Furies made it clear that Xena was Ares's daughter...explaining her supernatural powers and Ares's persistence...but Lucy Lawless and Kevin Smith objected to this because there could be no more sexual tension between X & A if incest was involved, so the script was changed to make it ambiguous. I've found that those who favor the X/G 'ship usually accept Ares as Xena's dad, but (understandably) this is rejected by X/A shippers.

A common thing in superhero shows. They inflate and deflate a character's abilities to fit the storyline.
Look how in Hercules, as an immortal with no powers, Callisto wiped the FLOOR with Hercules...yet as a full fledged God later on, he demolished her.

Callisto has no powers at this stage, she is only immortal she isn't a god until after she gets the Ambrosia, which is what shes trying to get from Valasca.
