I heard this song on the great expectations episode from ER season 6.It's a awesome song. Thanks for posting this. Please add me a friend and I will sub to your channel
I love our Canadian neighbors, enjoy your contributions. Been a Cockburn fan for years, musically wonderful. Lyrics leave much to be desired. That said, he's a left wing socialistic idealist who won't get off his own dime. The Lions are to your South, in USA, who, along with your wonderful Canadian armed forces, who protect your artistic right to be stupid! The winds may blow, but lions never rest.
HAHAHA......Bruce is singing about Vancouver.........The Lions are two peaks in behind the Cap watershed.........The Lions are always socked in but like everything in my town beautiful when it's clear.
Great song. But like how Johnny Cash made "Hurt" his own, Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love cover of this song kicks "Wondering Where The Lions Are" up to a whole new, rockin' level.
Bruce, one of Canada's and the world's treasures; words, music and a heart to light the way. Loved his stuff since I heard and bought the first album. thanks tarkinewild
I heard this song out of a rock station in Detroit in 1979 that would pick up some of the regional artists..I was so lucky they did...they may have been the first station that broke it in the states...
I wish I could leave the world a beautiful song like this before I died. I can't, but Bruce did and I thank you so much for it Bruce. What a pleasant sweet song.
Loved it, great song & artist...... I what to dance but I'm a bit stoned....mmmmm...... pip pip old thing...... well something like that... almost gone!!!!@#$
The is the first Cockburn song I ever really heard. First impression was what is this weird music. Needless to say by round 2 I was sold. The song is awesome, his overall sound is so unique, a true artist. Can't say enough!!
Lions (cats) are noble creatures, kings of the jungle - Jesus is the Lion of Judah - they represent royalty, strength, nobility . See what appears in your dreams (lions/cats may symbolise strength and the need to hold your head high/pride etc.)
@Mollgreen a song about heaven...a passage from the Old Testament states there will come a time (Heaven) when The lion will lay down with the Lamb--IMHO
@ddram65 - in truth Bruce has stated he wrote the song about a recurring dream he was having about aggressive lions and suddenly the lions ( in subsequent nights) were no longer involved. entonces, "Wondering Where the Lions Are'
Bruce is an example of the many contributions Canada has made to global music, culture and social conscience. Thank U Canada for sharing such genius with the planet.
I have an acoustic version of this song on an album named "KSCA - Live From the Music Hall, Vol. 1" If you can find a copy of the album, buy it. You won't be disapointed
my son sent me this link..I choked up! When he was really young I bought this album and we sat on the sofa listening to it over and over...the next day the lil guy was singing wonderin' where the lions are with me. Good Good memories! Love YOU BRUCE! thanks for posting!
It is exactly as Onoroian said -- and Bruce has said many times and mentioned on this album's notes -- this was inspired by Charles Williams' "The Place of the Lion".
I am a Christian, Anglican, and this song is written about his conversion and about the way the Romans persecuted Christians in the 1st to 4th centuries
I'm NOT a Christian, but Bruce has a good handle on belief systems in general. You DO realize that he is a Christian, Don't you? It doesn't matter to me!
Yes, Yootoob...same thing happened years ago at Comox Festival. It was nothing short of a love-in as the audience echoed 'wonder where the lions are'...beautiful.
One of the nicest versions of the song I have ever heard. Thanks Bruce. I'm an american and I am thankful for so many great things from Canada: Bruce C., hockey, great whiskey, maple syrup and a crapload of cool people.
This is one among many of Cockburn's wonderful hits. But how do you compliment an artist who's given so much..? it's hard. I appreciate the resonant spiritual quality that is found throughout his albums; it has an uplifting quality to it and makes one have a sense of cosmic-hope. Thanks Bruce Cockburn, don't let anyone bring you down.
I was reluctant to listen to this as I so love the recorded studio version and live is usually so screwed up. But his voice is so great still! Maybe even better? I love this to.
Thank you for this post. I first heard this tune during my somewhat tumultuous mid-teen years. I had just been diagnosed with heart disease and told I had one year remaining to kick around our "world of wonders" unless I had corrective, open heart surgery. This tune put a smile on my face, gave me hope, and helped me put life in perspective then; it continues to do so now. Many thanks to Bruce Cockburn.
Great story man I'm glad you told us that. And I'm glad you're alright. I believe that music can heal especially songs like this what a classic. This song has to put a smile on your face.

I wish Canada could keep producing such amazing music as Mr. Cockburn does, but instead we simply push out more contrived tripe day in and day out.

we have a football team here in Detroit that could use this as their theme song.
