No worries. Cloud suffered from a severe mako addiction [I think it was] and wasn't able to do much. Just right at the end *spoilers* when Zack is about to get killed, is when Cloud starts to recover. Basically, Cloud wasn't able to do anything during those four years apart from breathe so Zack kept him with him at all times. If that doesnt make sense, just say!
