Property taxes are too damn high too. And so is the cost of labor and materials to keep buildings from falling apart. Put in stricter rent controls and watch properties get neglected. He does not understand simple microeconomics. Legislating rent caps leads to discrimination and a shortage in rent space. There is a reason that the prices are where they are at. Artificially lowering prices messes the system up (and is very expensive on the government)

really so i do see the good of lowering rent but how low could you really go. to make a real change you would need to drop rent $200 to $400 but then what about the home owner they still have to pay for taxes,mortgages, fixing of the house your renting. and what about the people that already live in the shitty hoods.. that's rent is $300 to $400 a month right now will they pay next to nothing.

Property taxes are too damn high too. And so is the cost of labor and materials to keep buildings from falling apart. Put in stricter rent controls and watch properties get neglected. There isnt any money in it for landlords if they have to charge low rents for good apartments and keep them maintained. Plus, maintenance ppl will lose jobs.
