  • wow that guitar sounds really good, what brand of guitar is that?

  • Great performance, i love Villa-Lobos pieces, what do you think of upload the No.1 Prelude and the No.1 Etude?

  • And this is why Youtube is worthwhile

  • Excelente, muchas gracias por compartir su música! Saludos desde Argentina.

I wish you can play a song of mine I've composed it's a classical peace

if you're interested i like to send you the song.

    Per-Olov

  • Great sound, great expression, great technique. Really nice video sir

  • Dear Per Olov,

I just found this video of yours, and the tone is phenomenal! Beautifully played. I love it. I will favorite this piece. I don't play this piece yet, but I have played the first prelude.I will send that as a video response to you, so I hope you enjoy it! As soon as I play number five, I will send that to you as well.

    Your Friend Quentin

  • Lovely tone, nicely played. :)

  • This is beautiful but im getting frustrated now, theres so so many Videos on you tube called "Villa lobos" and None of them are the same piece im learning -_-"

  • @PhiiRob What are you trying to learn?

  • @PaulSaywood The piece just says "Villa Lobos" At the Top.. erm, it ends in some nice harmonic bits, erm, and its in E minor...

  • Interpretação impecável!Serve-me de inspiração, pois eu estou estudando algumas obras do Villa-Lobos. Parabéns!

  • Maestro! Or should I say ... Blubtro!

Good to hear you again! I was tired of YouTube for a (long) while, but I thought I´d come back and listen to some nice guitar music again. And also to see if you can still play the guitar. Well duh! Of course you can. And looking good as always of course. Enough compliments? i know how much you like them.

Anyhow; great to see you again and I hope to be a bit more active around here ...

    Blubdiblob,

    Jo

  • This is the best version of this piece I've heard. It's much better than John Williams's interpretation on here!

  • superb stuff

  • Great, man! I was just looking for some video that could help me to improve my way of playing this Prelude, and this video is the best of youtube channel. Thank you for sharing this with us. Hope some day I could play like you.

  • I'm Brazilian,is an honor for me to hear you playing a Brazilian composer! OBRIGADO :)

  • Listening to you makes me reconsider my life lived so far, thanks for your love of music.

  • :-) Thank you. I don't know if that is good or bad... :-) but I hope you will keep listening to me and maybe play yourself!

    Kind regards,

    Per-Olov

  • People says that Sungha Jung is the best guitarist in the world. It isn't true, although he is very good guitarist. But you're much better :) I love your playing. Your sound is very clear and professional. Never stop playing!

  • Thanks a lot. I don't think it is a bout "being best"... I guess we all do our best to spread the music and the love of the guitar. But I appreciate you kind words.

    Please keep listening to me.

    Kind regards.

    Per-Olov

  • Very nice Per-Olov you catch the "suavidade" of that music

  • Thank you!! I am happy you listen to me.

    Per-Olov

  • When he was asked why they had found him better then the young and much faster player he answered then that - "THIS BOY IS STILL LOOKING FOR HIMSELF AND I HAVE ALREADY FOUND MYSELF!"

  • Hi. Great story. I guess I am the OLD man :-)

Part from that,I think it is right; age (life) make you play better.

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo No You are not so old :) I think you are still the one who is looking for something better to implement in his playing!

  • I will try to translate one joke from Ukrainian language. So, there was a guitar players competition and there were only two left for the final play. One young player and the old one. So the young one had shown all of his best he was so quick and fast wile playing and had made any mistakes!!! But the old one had won the competition with his soft and slow kind of playing.

  • You are killing me with your playing!!!!

  • I have a question (and maybe it's just the way the camera is positioned that makes it look strange): what on earth is holding up your guitar? The way it looks from my angle, the guitar is just kinda floating there! Are you resting it on your leg, or do you have a stand of some sort? Or are you just so awesome the guitars hover for you when you go to play them? :P

  • Hi there. Thank you! Appreciated.

I use a GITANO as support. Google it. Great little thing.

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo Ah. That does make sense. Can't see it the way the camera is in the video. Thanks for responding! I'll definitely have to watch more of your videos; I'm using this video as a benchmark for my progress on this piece. Beautifully played. :)

  • excelente tecnica ... me sirves de inspiracion . llevo tres años tocando tengo 17 años y espero perfeccionar mi tecnica ... gran trabajo te felicito

  • what recording software are you using?..

  • Hi there. I don't use any recording software. Only a good microphone connected to my camcorder.

    Kindly,

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo ahehehe what brand/type of microphone..? :D

  • one of my favourite guitar pieces, beautifully performed with great acoustics

  • Thank you!! Appreciated.

    Per-Olov

  • i like all your videos^^

    It is so nice!

    I wish you the best.

    Benoît

  • Just... Hmmm... Stunning... :|

  • Villa Lobos sine gitarkomposisjoner kan lett spoleres av utøveren, men kan og være en fasinerende opplevelse når de fremføres med feeling og forståelse---slik som du gjør her! Takk Maestro!

    Takk Maestro!

    BIG HUGS!

  • Always a like for the wonderful artist across the sea.

  • so clean and well done. especially like the part 3 (?) that starts around 2:20. effortless. hadn't heard this in a while.

  • Wonderful, Per-Olov, thank you!

  • Ask Villa-Lobos...I only play his music... :_)

    Per-Olov

  • This video, along with your perfectionist comment about buzzing sounds, says everything about what separates classical music from other music, and classically trained musicians from other musicians. :-)

  • :-) Thank you for your comment!

    Appreciated.

    Per-Olov

  • absolutely magnificent :))))))))

  • Thank you so much. I am happy you liked it.

    Per-Olov

  • Hey Per-Olov, again a really great performance and again excellent material for selfstudy of an amateur. You always make me expand my guitar horizons. Your play is so motivating - I cannot thank you enough!

  • Hi my friend. I am so happy to know I can inspire you. Keep playing! (and listening)

    Per-Olov

  • Njuter .....

    =))

  • Thanks my friend. Jag njuter av ditt svar.

    :-))

    Per-Olov

  • Great to hear you Villa Lobos playing. I´m sure he composed this piece because he divined one day Per-Olov will play it :-)

Thanks for the concert today - it makes me looking forward to listening live to you...

    Cheers - Sabine

  • Hi there Sabine. Thank you. :-) I hope Heitor likes this where ever he is...

    See you!

    Hugs,

    Per-Olov

  • Fantastic again :D

I try to audition for the conservatory of Amsterdam and I have to choose between Tarrega or Villa Lobos. I want to play a piece from every important guitar period.

I love them both so much, can't choose yet :P

    All the best,

    Robert

  • Ah you live in Amsterdam? I should have known. i passed three weeks ago. :-)

I would go for Tarrega. More possibilities for expressing yourself and you are so good at that... only my humble thoughts...

    Good luck.

    Per-Olov

  • Wow my friend from the north! You are great!

This piece is so hard to play and you play it absolutely flawless!

I am deeply impressed. And your guitar sings !!!!!

    All the best ,

    Wolfgang

PS: And I am happy with you that you have two insertions for TV! ;-)

  • Thank you my good looking, southern friend.

My new Hallgren guitar is also developing very good but the 'old' Jean.Mairet still sings... :-)

    See ya!

    Per-Olov

  • Per, this is excellent and very inspiring as always. You always have the ability to get into the essence of each piece. Thank you, - Athan

  • Thank you dear Athan. Always nice to read your comments.

    Stay safe.

    Per-Olov

  • Yes Villa Lobos's music is and will be so signicant and interesting!

Very nice performance and this guitar seems very well suited for this music.

  • Thank you my friend.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • I'm always happy to hear you buzz a few notes. That means there might be some hope still left for me. Beautiful playing as always.

  • Bonjour mon cher Per-Olov, merci for the sharing of your wonderful interpretation of this beau "Prélude" composé par Villa-Lobos :)

    Excellente semaine mon ami ;)

    Hugs, Rosy

  • Bonjour ma chère! Merci for listening to me all the time. I appreciate that.

    Hugs,

    Per-Olov

  • Beautiful piece and your playing is great

  • Thank you Alexandros!

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Beautiful work.

  • Gee….talk about complex fingering! No way I can make my guitar do that…..not because I can't…..my guitar can't….you see. Great performance Per-Olov….thank you!

  • Hi Ed!

I would have a serious talk with your guitar if I had the opportunity. Or better: YOU have a talk with it! Tell it it have to be able to play this NOW! Or.... you will play DEATH METAL on it.

Hey, it's not that difficult this piece. It looks harder than it is. Really.

    Hugs,

    Per-Olov

  • Wonderful!

  • So fucking proud of being Brazillian!

  • Lindo demais! Adorei! Você toca muito bem, parabéns!

  • Thank you! All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Lovely playing!

    Svilen

  • Thank you Svilen. Appreciated.

    Pr-Olov

  • Aah, Per-Olov, how good it is that you're back (from holiday, I hope you really enjoyed the time !) I really admire your fingering in every piece you play !

And .. hey love to hear the Mairet again ! it ha such a wonderful, delicate sound. the new hallgren is surely great, maybe better, but the warmer sound of the Mairet excites me every time ! Thank you for your music !

    Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

I love my Jean-Mairet too. What it lacks in power, it has in warmth... but my Hallgren will develop to be able to do both.

Thank you for listening to me.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Oh, this is very very good. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for listening to me.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • PO, thanks for the video! I'm trying to learn Villa Lobos Estudio #1. It's going very slowly. Your videos are always an inspiration to keep practicing.

  • Hi Steve,

I am happy to hear you are playing #1. It's a great Prelude! Good luck and keep playing.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Beautiful song and beautiful performance

  • Thanks a lot!

    Per-Olov

  • I like the prludes of Villa-Lobos, since I have heard an album of Charlie Byrd long long time ago, and you play it in your own way with a lot of senses and it is really a great version of this prelude no.5.

    Have agood time

    Michael

  • Thank you Michael. Appreciated.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Beautiful! I always look forward to your new posts.

This is one of those pieces that doesn't look appealing on paper. Here, you certainly have made it wonderful music. I'm always awed by your mastery of tone and phrasing. Now I have to dig out the sheets and look at this piece again. Thank you for posting this inspiring performance.

Best wishes to you, as always.

  • Hi there. I am happy if I can inspire you to dig out the music from your drawers. When playing V-L, always focus on the MELODY! not the chords or fingerings. :-)

    Good luck,

    Per-Olov

  • i watched this cuz my last name is villalobos ha pretty badass playing

  • @Yeahv have you heard of other songs by villa lobos?

  • Hi there Vllalobos!

  • As your regular follower and fan, I always enjoy your playing and the phrasing you put in your recording. Hoping this recording will convince your doubtful listeners that you are one of the best.

  • Hi my friend. Thank you for your kind words. Are there any doubtful out there? :-) Kidding!! I know there are tons of guitarists playing faster than I. That is not a goal for me... :-)

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • This was such a nice way to start the week, listening to you play. Thank you!

  • Thanks Kenny!

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Thank you dear Peo!

    You play so wonderful.

  • Thank YOU my friend.

    Appreciated,

    Per-Olov

  • Super ! ! !

  • You always inspire me to practice guitar and make me want to become a professional but the one thing that is holding me back is the guitar. I don't have a guitar to play this kind of music. Oh well I'll just go practice viola

  • I really enjoyed listening you :)

  • Thanks a lot Harry!

    Appreciated.

    Per-Olov

  • Wonderful, Per-Olov, this is great! In your playing is so much color. I love that.

    Best wishes,

    Günter

  • Danke Günter!

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • Bravo;magnifico;espectacularar,

  • Thanks! I am honored you listen to me.

    All the best,

    Per-Olov

  • very nice. It is one of my favorite pieces by Villa-Lobos.

  • Thank you. Mine too!

    Per-Olov

  • Wooow! This is sooo beautiful -- and difficult! Thanks for playing it so wonderfully -- I couldn't!

    Regards, Wilfried

  • Wilfried, I am happy you listen and like it. It is easier than it looks. Really!

    See you.

    Peo

  • Great playing

  • WOW!!! GREAT!!!

Villa-Lobos is a treasure of the classic brazilian music, but it's a pain that it isn't valued by the younger generations here in Brazil.

The real music was forgotten in this country and the people just want the same repetition of themes, texts and chords (when the "music" have it), a really lack of creativity.

    A strong hug for you!!

  • Thanks Bruno! I am happy. I love Brazilian music.

    Hard hug back to you.

    Per-Olov

  • Great! beautiful sound and dynamic!

  • Thanks a lot!

    Per-Olov

  • Peo, I REALLY enjoyed that interpretation. Your friend, Buddybear.

  • Hi Buddy! Thank you so much! I am happy you liked it. Thanks!

    Peo

  • Hello Per-Olov,It's Alex. I dont know if you remember me as I commented on your fragments of a lifetime video quite a while ago, anyway if you read back to what I said, I'd now like to inform you that im at lvl 4 studying lvl 5 guitar and I can play fragments of a lifetime. thankyou for the great videos.!

  • Hi Alex! I remember you well. Congratulations! I am so happy to hear you are at level 5 and are playing my Fragments...! :-)

I hope someday you will post it here. You will be the second. :-) Keep playing and listening.

    Per-Olov

  • great, great, great!!!

  • Very good interprétation of a very good piece! Thumbs up! Congrats and best wishes Karlheinz

  • Thank you Karlheinz.

    Have a great day.

    Per-olov

  • There you are Peo..Great playing, you give the piece a vitality I don't always hear from other guitarists. It's not one of my favourite works to be honest, but I think that's more down to mediocre renditions of the piece. You almost inspire me to pick it up again..I did say almost!! After all, it's sunday zzzzzz

Good to see you again amigo.

  • Hi there my dear friend. Thanks for listening. As I commented below there are as many versions of this piece as there are guitarists. All different in tempo and phrasing. I am happy and honored i ALMOST got you inspired.

Have a nice Sunday... rest and practice your snooker! I'll beat you some day!

    See you.

    Per-Olov

  • @AndanteLargo Peo! I played yesterday, actually won! Be afraid...

  • Ohhooo... shaking in my pants.... have to go down to the local pub and practice... beer lifting... :-)

  • @AndanteLargo hahahahaahaha. Today I am meeting with some musicians for a Brunch.. We shall be Champagne lifting.!! Tis good for the muscles and the soul!

  • Great !!!

You make it look so easy :)

I am dreaming of playing like this.

    Smile from Anne Mari

  • Hi Anne Mari,

I am sure you can play this too! You are a great guitarist!

    Have a 'koselig' day.

    Per-Olov

  • Hi Per,great performance, played with musicality, fantastic dynamics, warm but great tone projection. I've been wondering what makes this Music so very recognizable as Heitor Villa-Lobos, a certain way in chordal and melodic development which is quite interesting and most of all unique, abrazo Vic.

  • Good Morning Vic. H. V-L's way of using the guitar is unique. What I don't like about him sometimes is the way he is *too* idiomatic sometimes. It is as if he composes more for the instrument and playability than the core of the music. But 90% of the time he get away with it in a brilliant manner!

    Love and peace!

    Per-Olov

  • Very very nice, Peo. Your recording sound is exceptional. And, of course, your performance is flawless.

    Pura Vida!!

    Ron

  • Thank you Ron.

Appreciated. The room I am in is very nice to play in.

    Per-Olov

  • sound GREAT !! really good performance !

  • Brilliantly done. Beautiful piece. You never disappoint.

  • Wonderful music to start this sunday morning.

    Thank you, Per.
