  • me hubiera gustado a ver nacido en los 60s T______T

  • So damn good

  • si no escucharon la versión de este tema hecha por "Las Moskas" del mexico tmb del 68 en español se las recomiendo es muy... simpatica

  • In the UK, this group is barely known, despite this song being such a massive hit in the summer of 1968. However, the durability of their music was proved in the 80s when Joan Jett did Crimson and Clover, Billy Idol had a transatlantic hit with Mony Mony, and Tiffany topped the US and UK charts with I Think We're Alone Now.

  • this song was #1 when I was born week of August 17, 1968

  • This was Number 1 in the UK Chart when I was born!! Awesome music, awesome decade!! Shame I missed it!!!

  • I had a guru jacket wished I would have kept it....us girls wear them to.....what a blast we danced every weekend .....sock hops ... night clubs that we would slip in the doorman would wink and let us in.......

  • great song

  • these dudes made hits, yo'...bananas!! I'm stunned at how many good songs they had!! I actually like their sound more than the beatles--just sayin'. More uptempo!! I'm surprised they didn't get as much recognition as the beatles...

  • That's such a Dr Evil suit!

  • @MediaFilter - It's called a Nehru (nay-rue) jacket.

  • I was 3 years old when this song came out born in 1965 love 1960's music !

  • 6th grade all over again, man it was great. I can actually remember listening to this when a group of fine girls were walking by the house, could have been a movie scene.

  • @goethicdesire He wasn't used to doing this for the camera, I'm guessing. This was the 1960s, and music videos were kind of new to people, they did not have much experience or guidance on what to do, I guess. It's still a good video! Love it! :)

  • @ilrslr3 I absolutely agree with you! You can just hear the soul in Tommy James' voice, it's so much better and genuine! You're spot on, hun! :-)

  • @sbakunogaara Many young kids might lean toward Billy Idols version because it is more modern and has better sound quality since they obviously used more advanced, modern technology to record theirs in the 1980s, but I'm sorry, Tommy just had the (much) better voice.

If Tommy James did the song today, he'd blow Billys version out of the water in a heartbeat, imo.

I grew up in the 1980s, so I'm not biased here toward the 1960s, I jest hear the better voice and judge accordingly.

  • @Northax he blows Billy out of the water anyway, no contest. This was and still is the best muisc ever produced, this was when music sounded like muisc and it was a time to be growing up when all this music was new and living was good.

  • best rock n roll song of all time.

  • I bet Billy Idol is pissed.

  • Wow this is way better than Billy Idols version

  • Love that Nehru jacket on Tommy James.

  • il mio primo disco che o comprato ,impazzivo per questa musica ,che bel periodo non tornano piu'.

  • Growing up in the 60's was so cool!!!!!

  • I was at a wedding a few years ago and they played this song (more than once) ) i was very much suprised (upper mjiddle class people ) to hear everyone shout out "Get laid, Get F&%KIed" in the little pause after the first line of each verse. Is this a "Pittsburgh thing" or does it happen everywhere. thanks -- i'd love to know

  • 50's and 60's - music with passion

  • These guys ripped off Billy Idol.

  • @antdigger No, these guys did the original song, written by Tommy James. Billy Idol covered the song in the 80s.

  • @antdigger

ROFLOL, this video was made when Billy Idol was in grade school! Tommy wrote this (and according to Tommy, Mony was a Mutual of New York sign flashing across from his hotel room)

  • @antdigger Are you friggin' kidding me? Why don't you check out when this came out and when Billy Idol turned up. I just love when people post their ignorance for thw whole world to see... LOL

  • @antdigger Billy Idol was born in "55 and Mony Mony was released in "68. Idol wasn't even doing music until the 70's...

  • @antdigger u kiddin me..

  • If I could only take five records with me for the rest of my life...this would be one of them!!

  • Music now days is garbage!

  • i know one of the shondells ik mike vell

  • I just read that Tommy (then Tommy Jackson) was only 12 when he formed his first band and started singing. Wow. ;)

  • i think the dancing in these videos from back in the day are hilarous!

  • @nyrainbow2 Did Jon Lord of Deep Purple play the "Mony Mony" melody at the beginning of "Lazy" on the "Made in Japan" album?

  • get laid get fucked!!

  • REAL ROCK "N" ROLL

  • i grew up with all of them. we used to shoot pool together. loved tommy's t-bird

  • Comment removed

  • @Aphrodite23100 Next time eat your wheaties before someone pisses in them.

  • i wish i was born in the 60's. this is real music. it sucks to be born in the 90s.

  • @x0katiek0x I was born in '58 and this is my kind of music. I just saw TJ last night, great show! My son who is 16 has all the 60's n 70's music on his ipod, he does'nt like the music of today!

  • @x0katiek0x oh so you want to born in a decade where you had to be dragged into an unjust war that we didn't need to be in and minorities were discriminated against openly in every aspect of life and Women didn't have any real power in the world...that's good...You can't just live on music alone. Although i do love the music...okay i'm a contrarian...lol

  • @Prkwon You are right about an unjust war, prejudices and inequities however, would you agree that some of the greatest music ever came out of 60's & 70s respectively? I was just a girl (born in '63) but I knew then I was listing to something great.

  • @noalittleaboutlot i agree with that if you tell my friends little brothers about some of the original music that 60s and 70s produced and they think i'm lying. I kinda pity the kids nowadays listen to crappy music like Justin beiber and the ilk and they think they are cool. They don't what being really cool is. Listening to the Stones is cool. The Who, Cream let me cound the ways...

  • @Prkwon I meant to vote this up and accidentally clicked on the down button...won't let me change it.

  • @x0katiek0x The 90s gave us some great music too.

  • @Bryanccc3 no

  • @Bryanccc3 name 1 good song

  • @pedro88602 Prodigy - Smack my bitch up :)

  • @x0katiek0x sure you were too young for the 90's :( too bad

  • @x0katiek0x Agreed I was born in 96' it sucks

  • i need a time machine

  • He wrote this while looking out of his hotel room in Manhattan looking at a skyscraper's neon sign. Mutual Of New York. MONY.

  • @mdpatsos that is hilarious yet brilliant that he was able to write a song from that

  • Mafi music

  • lol tommy lee looks like a goof haha the song is a classic though (Y)

  • Tommy James and the Shondells I Love All Your Music & Have Every One Of Your Hits! You will forever be Amazing to me I Love You!

  • @nyyNYR2094 Okay, so he looks ridiculous because he is not wearing snake bite piercings, blue-green or pink hair, black fingernail polish and fishnets, skinny jeans so tight you can see his chromosomes or tattoos that say RIP Cuz in bad Asian style letters across his forehead. Alas, the sixties were so unfashionable. What were they thinking? At least the music is nice.

  • @ariam724 I blasted this song every time it came on my little transistor AM radio & it came on every hour for how many months? It was a very big hit & my favorite song at age 12.

  • this song was about Nam?

  • I have all these songs and this is the first time I have seen Tommy wow....

  • yeah, man

oh and lol @ mutang sarry

  • cool jacket :)

  • One of the best of great 60's songs

  • 0:40 - is it that where all the gangsta rappers got their "chains" inspirations from ?

  • el grupo karabana hace el cover de esta cancion y es mejor en español

  • This was my song when I was little, since everybody called me Mony! Haha! Love it!

  • Dig the Nehru jacket Tommy James is wearing!

  • sumu !

  • "'Here she come now say Mony, Mony' - We're only 2 seconds into your song & I already have no idea what you're talking about"

  • @gorillacarsale

    The girls' name is Mony.

  • @CLDeafies no it is not.

  • @YouGotSubbed

Yes, it is. I remember when this song was new. The group was interviewed; they talked about hunting for a unique name for the girl in the song. They were in NY, and they saw a sign blinking MON-Y. (One lightbulb was out.) They SAID that that is where they got the name from.

  • @CLDeafies Close! The insurance company was called "MONY." The building was several blocks where I worked on 53rd street & 7th avenue NYC

  • @L1S91 Mutual Of New York

  • @mwestylive Yup!!

  • @tnsodman Respect , good service! From Canadian cousin!

  • Hey redwing46901, right on! This was a classic rollerskating song up in in Canada too!

  • Billy Idol created 13 accounts to dislike this.

  • @DakotaHunterFTW I don’t think Billy Idol dislikes this tune at all or he wouldn’t have recorded it. Artistic peoples are not jealous like that…unless they are in the same band, LOL

  • I Love this Song....!!!!

  • Yep…just read Tommy’s book, “Me, The Mob, and the Music”. Good book but it could have been longer and more detailed. It did cause me to remind my little sister who had many of my old 45’s and look for Mony, Mony…and she found it. Sooo, what is it worth? An orginal 45 of Mony Mony with one owner?

I can even tell you the story when I bought it…it was at Woolworth’s on Harlem in Chicago and I thought the name of the song was “Bony Bony”, and my older sister found it titled “Mony Mony”.

  • I just love them !!! have the awesomest songs

  • a late 60s classic,no one else could have sung this like tommy james, loved it when l first heard it on my way to school, used to hide my transistor radio in my school satchell,,whats a satchell you may say,,ask your dad,

  • This was sooooo hot at the roller rinks when I was a kid, speed skate time when this came on the speakers and doing skate tricks in the center of the rink to kick it up a notch and call someone out to center floor to hand lock and spin the hell out of them weeeeeeeeeeee---then they barf....lol !!! good ole days !!!!!

  • effin ell am now in the sixties and staying there despite my grandchildren

  • BILLY IDOL ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this video. Love Tommy James and love Mony Mony. Rock on!!! Believe Tommy James wrote this song like some of the others hits of his. Where is he now?

  • OMG I thought Billy Idol made this song up

  • @AbhiB OMFG I can't believe you SAID that! How old are you anyway?

Next thing you'll say you thought Tiffany wrote "I Think We're Alone Now"

  • @UglySean

31 and I thought she did

  • @UglySean Next you'll be tellin' us "Smokin' in the Boy's Room" was not a Motley Crue song!

  • @schroeder8911 Oh have I got news for you!

  • Never gets old !!!!!!!!!

  • Moany, moany

  • Tommy's from Niles Michigan I feel proud to be born in same state

    fuck madonna or eminenma

  • love the change of pace at 2:00

  • I was 17 in 1968 and loved dancing. This came on a club in Essex (yes, Essex!) and I danced and danced my heart out. Enjoyed myself too much to even think of dancing with a boy!

  • This Is The ORIGINAL VERSION , GREAT AS WELL , I Love both

  • @cseaavalosroger It's not the complete original version. Video is missing last 15 seconds of the song, the dramatic crescendo. Too bad. .

  • @tnsodman Right on.I served in the Nam with Kiwi infantry.Great era for songs.Funny how Charlie could not pronounce much/I remember,Mutang sarry.Sin loi to all who werent over there.

charlie could kick your asses out of his country all the same

  • @heywoodjerbloume

Billy Idol does it better than that fraud Tommie.

  • @SkidRowJosephine Idol was a KID when he wrote this dumbass

  • @cykodee Shove it up your asshole dipshit. They're both fags.

  • @SkidRowJosephine bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha.

The penultimate fraud is Billy, no wait it's YOU!

I'll bet you TJ has more hits - solid gold & platinum records than Billy Idol any day.

  • Tommy James is still touring and doing the classic songs. Plus he is an incredible and funny person to actually meet. I would recommend it if he comes to your town.

  • these guys were NOT one hit wonders like so many others, they had a great ride of classics, Crystal Blue Pursuasion was one of my favs, & they didn't sound alike, each hit had its own identidy, thats the mark of a great band and great writing, Crimson & Clover sounded nothing like "I think were alone now" or Hanky Panky", they all were so good i never realized they all came from from Tommy.

also love Draggin the line & this one "Mony Mony"..

  • F***ing awesome rock. and. roll.

    This is what it was.

  • i miss doing Acid :(

  • @tnsodman yes i guess you enjoyed yourself then, apart from the war of,course, good to see you got through it,,regards, rob,

  • MONY MONY, yeah :D

  • my wifes fav band.now one of mine.

  • the troggs kick ass too

  • i was 11 in 68 in england, and this tune hit me for six and even now is just as good as it was back then,,,time flies but classics like this are timeless,,

  • Love it!

  • I Wish this songs-times came back..

    Today's music is shit.

  • Cool Nehru jacket!

  • that jacket style wear by t james is Nehru jacket ..

  • It was Billy Idol not Eddie Money.

  • This is still a rockin' song.

  • Before Eddie Money, we had the MONY man, Tommy James.

  • @robkal56

what does Eddie Money have to do with anything

  • @Rush1013 Have you not heard of Eddie Money being called "The Money Man?" Tommy is the original MONY man. It was a play on words.

  • Tommy James has just written a book detailing his years with an alleged mob-run record company and what really happened to Jimmy Rodgers. Heard him on CBC radio this AM and couldn't believe it.

  • Buddy Hollies 1st hit was recorded in his garage

  • that's where Tommy James and his band recorded this,in his garage,is the story I heard, can anyone verify?

  • Niles,Michigan southern border near indiana

  • Tommy James and I have something in common. At the same age in our respected lives, moved to the same town and end up graduating from the same High School!

  • I love this song!!

  • I worked in the shadows the "MONY" building years ago...This song is all I thought of when I saw the bldg Remember the Nehru jackets!!

  • I worked in the shadows the "MONY" building years ago...This song is all I thought of when I saw the bldg

  • these hacks today couldn't old his jockstrap

  • @zackhanscom Epic comment.

  • @zackhanscom right on there brother. None of them can - check out the "The Chantays" ;-)

  • Workin' it since 1968 ... ageless

  • YOU GUYS ARE ALL THAT!

  • This video reminds me of the sacred whale cereMONY in Julian Lennon's fantabulous documentary Whaledreamers. Please watch it, if not for the whales, then to honor the memory of our beloved John Lennon. He must be busting with pride that his one and only son honored the whales and those who treasure them in his movie.

  • @etbella3 Jullian Lennon is not John Lennon's "one and only son". He had a second son, Sean Ono Lennon, with Yoko Ono. Just to let you know.

  • Now I know where George Jefferson stole his grove from! Lol!

  • I will NEVER get tired of this song!

  • beautifullll

  • Classic garage pop. Somewhat surprisingly, seeing as the Beatles seem to dominate any music polls about the 60s, listeners of a British radio station then called 'Classic Gold' now just 'Gold', a few years ago voted this as their top song of the 60s. While I wouldn't go as far as that, it is an excellent track.

  • That fantastic Rave up production in the chorus is just killer!

  • just listening to this onmy ipod! love it, takes me back to my youth!

  • Grow up people the f word is only in your minds there really is no nead for your stupid hillbilly talk

  • what a huge sound! I love how this stuff was recorded!

  • great song, great band!

  • OHHHHHHHHHH Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, blast from the Past, we're rocking NOW!!!!!

  • Never get tired of hearing it. Great song!

  • Great Ole Song ! :)
